That "3D" map from Skyrim doesn't make any sense to me.Are they not doing a 3D map like Bethesda's award winning The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?
It didn't make sense to me either, but it was beautiful nonetheless. I used to think that the authentic looking paper maps were more immersive and superior, but I can't deny that I really liked the aesthetics of Skyrim's map. So I think it's a game after all and not a real life path finding simulator, so why not make it as accessible and beautiful as possible. There are also many creative additions that can be made to a 3D in order to make it more aesthetic and cinematic. For example the camera detaching from Geralt and zooming out when the player open the map would be a nice addition in my opinion; kind of like the way GTA V did it when you switched between characters. That "3D" map from Skyrim doesn't make any sense to me.
It's not an in-game map so I don't think it will be an in-game location either.Skellige Isles should be waaaay further south. But since there are normally no islands in that position, they may very well be Skellige. Sapkowski describes quite elaborately the shape and position of the Islands though, and these islands on the map do not quite fit the description in my opinion. Who knows though.
That is assuming that the river shown in the first picture is Pontar and not Yaruga. Because if it is Yaruga... OHMAHGAD
Edit number 2: I seem to have found a similarity with the previous game maps. The area shown is I believe the shores of Verden. The river on the north is Adalatte, on its mouth is the town of Kerack.
This means that we might actually see Brokilon forest after all. And Cidaris.
You almost cover half of the continent in there which I think is not possible. Just like @ReptilePZ have said, I too believe that the map shown in the demo included both Novigrad and No-Mans land (it was mentioned after the fast-travel that it was indeed No-Mans land); separate region or not, I don't know. And Skellige with it's own map will be a different region. The region is small but the map itself is huge providing a realistic scaling. If you really want to point out the TW2 maps in there, you should rather use dots than circles. Those locations aren't big.Let's bring some optimistic thinking into the thread!

Green is for TW1, Yellow for TW2(except Kaedwini camp) and red for TW3 (duh)
I can only dream and hope and beg that this turns out to be true... At least it fits the announced '35 gorillion times larger than Skyblivion (or whatever that game was called -_-)'
...with sea combat and maybe some diving quests. I'll bet they'll throw in an underwater cave (with air) somewhere. That's a large map but you know what's more exciting? There is another map nearly the same size for Skellige![]()
I really don't know why, haven't really examined it, but for some reason, I instinctively love such a thing...with sea combat and maybe some diving quests. I'll bet they'll throw in an underwater cave (with air) somewhere.
Finding such a place is super rewarding, especially if the loot is also good. It just brings a certain feeling that you pulled off something special when you find a well hidden cave or reach some obscured high place.I really don't know why, haven't really examined it, but for some reason, I instinctively love such a thing![]()

I like my fantasy RPGs old school and more groundedIt didn't make sense to me either, but it was beautiful nonetheless. My only problem with Skyrim's map was the fact that it did not show the roads and it got confusing at times.
I personally don't mind having a 3D map in Witcher 3, if it's done right and it is easy to use.
Will the game also be open ocean as well as open world, or will it be like ass creed 4 where you can only dive in certain locations?...with sea combat and maybe some diving quests. I'll bet they'll throw in an underwater cave (with air) somewhere.
Pretty sure CDPR said in some interviews that anywhere there's water, you can just dive under. I dunno, seems a little too ambitious, so I'm going on the skeptical side and assuming there'll be some restrictions, but we don't rightly know. Will the game also be open ocean as well as open world, or will it be like ass creed 4 where you can only dive in certain locations?
Generally yes, you will be able to dive almost everywhere, except the super cold places of Skellige where the temperature is to low and you will die by getting to water-don't remember whats the current state of this because in some interviews they said that you will die by getting to those lakes, pounds etc. and in other they said that you will not be able to enter them generally, but still they said there will be a lot of underwater places to visit.Pretty sure CDPR said in some interviews that anywhere there's water, you can just dive under. Hopefully it won't be like that if our feet touch the water in those area your health bar starts to immediately tick downwards but instead it's full of partial full bodyexposer to the cold water.Generally yes, you will be able to dive almost everywhere, except the super cold places of Skellige where the temperature is to low and you will die by getting to water-don't remember whats the current state of this because in some interviews they said that you will die by getting to those lakes, pounds etc. and in other they said that you will not be able to enter them generally, but still they said there will be a lot of underwater places to visit.
