Mark locations on the map

Mark locations on the map

Didn't read anything about that: Will we be able to mark a location and a comment on the map?

I think this is a pretty essential feature for an openworld game. Would be disappointed if we can't do that without a mod.

Yeah, I would think we would be able to at least do that.

I'd be surprised if we couldn't, and if the team doesn't do it I bet modders could add this easily. I expect the map to be full of POIs that we want to keep track of.

The question is rather if it will be possible to turn-off indicators on the map. I want less information on the minimap, not more. But flexibility and options are always the best solution.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if we CAN add user markers and comments to the map, as it doesn't seem to be that common these days.
And yes, we also need to be able to turn off game-generated quest markers, but that's a different issue entirely, and there's already a thread where that's being discussed, so please continue it there.

I'm casting my vote. I love to see this feature.

I wouldn't say custom markers is a PC thing, console games can and do use that feature if implemented in the game.

You're right about notes though, that's near nonexistent in console games and very rare on PC. It has never really affected me, I just write stuff on a piece of paper IRL.

Map markers are a feature I miss in almost every RPG. Especially in RPGs where you can find things but are not strong enough/able to get them at the moment.

My post was 100% on topic. It was neither aggressive nor was it against ANY rule of this board.

Basically I said that I doubt custom (noted) map markers will make it to the game due to their PC-specific nature (because you require a keyboard to use them properly).

Placing your own markers and adding text to it, is not a feater that they have in game(at least they didn't had it on gamescome) but in one interview someone asked them about it and they really liked that idea and promised to tell about it to the developing team, so ye they should be aware at this point about that and mb we will get it in the game.

Dragon's Dogma had I think up to 3 custom waypoints you could place. Basically the game didn't have some big arrow pointing you towards your location, nor did it tell you the precise route how to get there, the waypoint marker would just sit on the edge of the mini-map based on which direction it was from your current position.

I thought it was perfect (Then again Dragon's Dogma did ALOT of things right, like holy shit). If I ran into a cool location or creature I couldn't quite beat, I'd just pop a waypoint down and come back to it. I think the notes part is probably unnecessary and I honestly can't think of a single game that I've seen do that - apart from leaving messages in the Souls' games, but that's not the same thing.

Frankly I'm not going to fret, custom waypoints is a pretty basic feature that just about every open world game has these days, no doubt TW3 will have it. It doesn't really need much customization, just as long as you can plop at least one down on the map, it's all good.
I think for TW3 though I'll probably have a little notepad next to me to jot down locations to come back to and other bits and pieces, then I don't even have to tab out of the game.

Hm, that seems strange to me. One would think that experienced game designers and UI designers would know their stuff. Custom markers and notes are by no means a new mechanic and I'm pretty sure somebody at CDPR already thought about that during development.

But hey, nobody's perfect. Maybe that means that they will include them now. We'll wait and see. ;)

The only game I've played that allowed notes on the map markers was probably Planescape: Torment. This feature is a great idea, but it makes more sense in a game with a bigger world... such as TW3. The notes would allow me to plan the order in which I complete things. One more thing: the notes should be *typeable* with a keyboard if you have one.

Would be cool if we were able to mark places on the map no matter if there is a quest or not. I missed this feature in TW2.
It would help us getting exactly where we want to, not just where the quests are.
In TW2 I often wanted to mark the places I wanted to come back to, but couldn't. I then ended up sometimes searching for a good 10 minutes for that particular place (especially around flotsam). Imagine how that will be in the open world.
Would be really great to have this feature.

And yes we do need the option to toggle certain indicators on the map and the minimap on/off, ESPECIALLY those who show us quest-locations we should theoretically not know that detailed (like for example in the 35 minutes of gameplay with Johnny's place or with the werewolf. We shouldn't be able to see this places or know which monster it is exactly if we didn't do any research before. An we also shouldn't see a big circle area or question mark around the location of the quest, it just makes it too easy and makes Witcher sense redundant.

Well, it depends on how you would define such a "make your own map notes with your keyboard" feature. If you define it as gameplay (enhancing) feature there is basically no chance that we will ever see it... well, maybe mods could do the job later.

Also in NwN. I really enjoyed the option to write notes IG using a journal. Helped me a lot when I RP'ed online. Really fun.
