reapers were not one of main part of plot, there is no need to debate over them. the funny thing is one of you guessed their role exactly. mass effect isn't a game you fight against unknown space invaders, if one focus on this part, he/she will not understand whats going on. no sci-fi cares characters or events, sci-fis are built upon ideas and purposes.

people treated mass effect like a space opera (star wars) but actually it is a sci-fi (kinda blade runner like). that's the reason i am disappointed, i realized people think space operas are sci-fis.

I don't get your point.
Mass effect was always some kind of space opera. Though this is a fancy word.
At least lots of the marketing was about that and that it is like an interactive movie. And that was actually always one of its strength. At least in my view.

It's a pity in a sense. He made the concept of Mass Effect, and then blew it up.

Or his writers did, or whoever, but someone fucked up badly. EA decided they were going to work their way from the top the bottom in removing incompetence.

As long as people like Gaider and Walters remain in Bioware nothing will change.

Mass Effect 4

November the 7th (N7 Day) was earlier in the month, and Bioware did a recent Twitch stream discussing the upcoming Sci-Fi epic.

Thought all the Mass Effect fans could pool all the knowledge, articles, pictures or theories here, as Bioware have kept quite a tight lid on the production so far,

N7 Day Twitch Stream.

E3 2014 Trailer

Concept Art

It has been hinted from sources inside the studio that the game may take place in the future (well later than the end of ME3) where Shepard has become a legend, making way for even greater tech, new races and hopefully a functional way to get across the universe! All but rumors at the moment!

They hired the lead writer for Halo didn't they? So yeah...

Those concepts are gorgeous though.

Pretty much. The only point of interest left for me is the online multiplayer, because damn, that shit was addictive in ME3. The only part of the game worth anything.

Maybe it will be resurrected without the burden of the stupid plot of the last (two) games.
But who am I kidding... the series I was prepared to love died after the first part already.

ME2 had a fantastic plot? Granted not as good as ME1. To be honest, ME3 had some great bits, the Asari colony with the Banshee Reapers is still more frightening than most of Dead Space 2 or 3. Just a bad case of EA pushing an unfinished product. We should be used to that by now.

The new concept art is beautiful, and I'll be honest I'm a big fan of the franchise, and once all the extended endings and additional DLC were added, ME3 was a blast. Multiplayer was great, not a huge MP guy, but it was fun. Keep hoping news of the remastered trilogy for the X1, PS4 and PC comes out soon.

Now that its been hinted ME4 will be set in the future, after events of the original trilogy, I'll be interesting to see how much further the tech has come. When it was originally rumored to be set during the Reaper War, I thought a Star Trek Voyager take would work. The new crew would be doing an undercover N7 mission when the.....

..... Mass Relays are destroyed. Stranding the new crew on the other side of the universe, without a means to travel vast distances quickly. Trying to find their way home.

The new Mako customization sounds good, hopefully weapons and systems will be upgradable, not just cosmetic stuff.
Also being able to pilot your own ship would be a big step up!

Weeell... if you ignore the fact that the 'plot' consisted of like 3 story missions with a total length of 5 hours, while everything else was companion recruitment and loyalty missions.

The recruitment was part of the story though? That was the idea, recruit the galaxies best to take on the collectors.

It didn't do anything for the story, though.
I felt like 'yay, I got my team, now let's get this mission going... the end.'

Apart from decide.....

.... who lived and died at the final mission, that then decided who would be in your ME3 play through. Not to mention build relationships with the characters you like.

Build a crew, take on the collectors, that was the plot.

By your logic all games are simplified into mindless missions that bring nothing to the narrative?

Its getting off topic, lets agree to disagree ok, lol

That's not a plot, that's the theme. Plot is events, so ME2 plot goes like this: wake up - learn about the collectors - go to Omega to get Mordin - go to Horizon to capture a bug - go to the derelict - go to Omega 4 - the end. The rest can be easily skipped. It's all ... extremely lacking.

THE PLOT OF THE STORY IS TO COLLECT A CREW, TAKE ON COLLECTORS. Not a difficult thing to grasp?

If you skipped it, the end result would probably end in Shepard's death?

Surely the "Theme" would be SAVE THE UNIVERSE FROM THE REAPERS?!?

No?

Illusive man brings you back to take on the collectors and search for any clues on the Reapers, he gives you intel on the best people for the job, each character had a great recruitment mission.

Sigh. We've all played it.

Lets get back to Mass Effect 4 shall we....

Reapers hardly merit a mention in ME2, so no.

So, skipping the rest may result in Shepard's death, so what? It's still a plot. The only crew member which is plot-important (without whom the story wouldn't progress) is Mordin. The rest are just flavor. Please, understand that I'm not saying ME2 is a bad game, but it's extremely lacking in the plot department, and that's undeniable.

Yes, let's go back to ME4, only we have nothing to talk about on that subject.

I just found it hard to believe that every companion in ME2 (save Jacob) would have some full-mission sized problem that had to be resolved before you could recruit him/her/it. The loyalty missions were less of an issue for me, but I really wanted more story missions like Horizon.
