Matrix chat rooms

Hi,

I wonder if that's fun to implement chat room, real chat roooms in the game. That would be the only "multiplayer" elements of the game, within the Matrix.

Let me explain.

Say the scenario of CP2077 is revelation A, B and a final C.

When you connect to the matrix, you could be connected to a chat room, with actual other CP2077 players and be chating with people who know nothing. After revelation A, when you go in the matrix, the game connects you to a past rev A chat room. After rev B, the game connects you to a past rev B, etc.

If the player allready walkthrough the game and start a new one, the game connects you to a pre rev A "NG+" chatroom, to avoid old player spoiling new players.

That way players could exchange information about what's going on :)

Exemple :

"(newCowBoy)- What happened to Count0 ? Oh my gosh he disconnected ?
(idoru)- Yeah I think "they" got him. I tried to hack an access to his site but it is completly scrambled
(newCowBoy)- Gosh
(armitage)- didn't like the guy anyway
(newCowBoy)- He told me he should rendez vous with a guy at CrashDownDummy, what do you think ? Should I go there ?
(armitage)- dunno
(idoru)- well if he disappears after this maybe you should see what he did there
(armitage)- @idoru You sound like one of *them*

(idoru)- @Armitage I know who you are, wave hi to the kitty cat virus
(armitage)- wtf get out of my rig bro

It wont be an online game. I repeat, this game wont be an MMO.. We are not even sure if there will be a multiplayer component to it. (And I really hope it wont have such things.) No need for silly chat rooms. I hate MMO's..

Can someone please lock this thread and bury it to the deepest depths of hell? Thank you.

In case you weren't talking about MMO stuff, I am not against a simulated chat room just for the fun of it. But even that is a bad idea since, you know, cyberspace..

If this is included, I'll spam you all with penis pill adverts and miscellaneous other irritations.

Which is a not-so-subtle way of pointing out that the idea relies on people actually roleplaying as their characters, which they won't. See: every game ever where players can communicate with each other. An offline chat like the message board in Dragonfall might be a nice touch, but anything actual people can touch will turn into a trash heap. And a spoilerific one at that, which you can't do anything to combat now that Youtube and Let's Plays and walkthroughs are a thing. Plus it'd have to be moderated to keep from actual spam and miscellaneous illegal stuff being posted, and as hilariously sadistic as that'd be toward the mods, it's not exactly realistic.

It's not a terrible idea, but challenging to implement.

Online interactions could be filtered or from a menu, of course.

I'm not talking about a MMO. Games with chats aren't all MMOs.

It's a chat feature where you can fire IA events in other player's games. If you want this or that user to encounter the police, help people, be framed or seek for help, etc, you can. You won't meet other players in the game and "shoot" them.

There's reasons I designed this.

tl;dr:
- to reflect the Matrix, it should offer infiny choices. A 3d environnement can't do this (tl;dr : bigger city than the matrix or else it's a matrix game)
- to offer this choice, I had the idea of interactions through dialogue. Humans interactions are cheaper than chat bots. Because CDPR should have a chat bot for each langage they want their game in. AAA games means a lot of different chat bot.
Now, I know english chatbot are fine, but french, italian, russian or german chatbots are crap because of late R&D (USA vs the World). Also, copyrights $$$.
Unless you force all people in the game to talk in english. Which forces this feature to be "optionnal peripherical stuff only" because some can't talk in english.
- if you would think chats or people communication would be dead in the 2070's, re-read Gibson, re-watch Ghost in the Shell (meme bombs and anti-meme AI, topic control bots, forums crawling agents, AR phone calls, etc). It's the opposite of that.

I can imagine the matrix in 2070 is still made of cats and penis pills :)
Cats selling penis pills and penises buying lolcats, especially.

If you mind penis pills, remember also that you are 3 clics away from it on the actual internet. Google racist stuff, clic on a result, there you are.

There's a difference between talking modern stuff in a medieval rpg or "modern" stuff in a futuristic game. Modern stuff in a futuristic game are not that much anachronistic :)
If you want to talk about penis pills, fine I would say. I guess that would make you a target of choice for ghost users (like the user named Count0 that botch a kittykat virus command -"/commnad"- in the exemple). People behaves like this only when they have no "predators".

If you are an ass to other players, remember some guys can see you from higher chat privileges (those who gone far in the game). Remember your target can escape by moving in his game, or progress through the plot to acheive better chat privileges and become your "predator". In Eve Online, for exemple, the need of chat moderation is very low, and the game have 2000+ chats rooms, because players have "predators".

Also, say you're in the "NG+" privilege, highest chat room privilege in the game, if you bully say X times in a row then lower fish players could see you.
Say you algned with the "blackhat society" or the "whitehat congregation" or are in the "grayhat brotherhood" through another difficult to make choice in the game, there you could be allowed to do different actions.

There's a natural equilibrium to this.

Sure if you mind penis pills, if you care to rate your game less than 18+, or if you care PS4/XBox stuff. People and ghost users would hack-bully you until you move in the game (in the exemple, the way to identify someone is an ID of a guy + location). That forces you to move if you done something wrong, to avoid being traced.

I'd recommend devs to buy and play the (wonderfull) game named Uplink (wikipedia), by Introversion Software, to experience how paranoïa can be used in game design (the best feature of uplink is the "beep" thing).

There's a point the paranoïa gameplay "awakens" in that game. It's starting to make you fearing things that may or may not exist. The player can never be 100% sure (if he's not an ass by reading a faq).
That is lovely.

I mean, if you can have all CP "classes", then you can be a Netrunner.

I wouldn't like the Matrix in CP2077 to be like the one in Shadowrun Returns/Berlin/Hong Kong, which is additional dungeons stuff. I'd love it to have a meaning, to be a second layer of the reality, to show invisible plot connections, to show gray stuff and uncertainty, even if you restart the game.

That system reflects this (sure, another would work, tbh, now I'm not sure that I have not pointed the cheapest one).
The additional dungeon stuff is expensive work for a finite result, this one is cheaper work for an infiny result, I think.
