May CDPR and The Witcher franchise never go "the way of the audience"

This was my biggest worry for TW2, that they would try to mainstream it, Americanize it, make it more...palatable for the masses. They didn't. They stuck to their guns and I applaud them for that. So let the 'C' word fly. Let political intrigue run amok and heads roll. Let witches burn at the stake, kings get their balls cut off, elves and servants get raped, humans get mobbed, kingdoms crumble, and let Triss show her glorious bum. This game's for adults.

In a way, all of what you described was a form of mainstreaming. The taste these days are a little more gladiatorial than they used to be. And torture porn as entertainment is certainly a recent American innovation, although precursors to it could be seen as early as the 60s and 70s.

All that to say it was mainstreamed to an extent, but it doesn't matter as the important things like plot, storyline, gameplay and art remained sophisticated.

I hope CDPR stays true to their roots and don't get blinded by the bucks. On the other side - let's not fool ourselves, the bigger the audience, the further streamlining process will take us.

But as seamusgod said - if they keep the plot, mature themes, art direction and this medieval-fantasy setting - this great RPG series will continue to reign.

PS. @ RageGT - this whole girl giving Bieber's name to a street thing...duh, I'm really sorry for our American fellow gamers...you guys need Witcher's help ASAP!

They haven't in the least mainstreamed the game. And not just because of mature content, but because of a complex plot and moral ambiguity. And it's still pretty esoteric to those unfamiliar with The Witcher universe, as it should be. Let newcomers do their homework if they want to catch up. And keep the combat difficult. I admire the Witcher games for NOT holding my hand.

I lack of context here.
What the heck does the OP's image mean?

I finished the game yesterday and would like to congratulate CDPR for an excellent game.

The plot was good and some of the moral choices had me thinking very hard on which way to go.
Don’t even know after finishing the game if what i chose was the correct path for my way of playing the game, which in itself proves that the game has depth and real consequences.

That does not mean that the game is perfect, i will be criticising the game in future as i found the combat and keyboard inputs slow and not responsive but that is for another day.

Congratulations on TW2 and am waiting for 2.0.

Me too @_@ I try to understand this topic but I don't get it. Although the Justin Bieber St is pretty funny. xD
But from what I understand: I like both the game and don't see how anything in TW2 is Americanized.

I Think what Rage means with this (even though i still have no damn clue of what the image means), is that he hopes that CDPR never....Well, to put in blunt terms, Sell out The Witcher Franchise, like..... that other Developer did that great game not too Long..... You Know which one.

Are you referring to that fantasy rpg with 'classic strategic' gamplay that transformed in a grotesque singleplayer clone of world of warcraft in its second installment?

I don't think so, even some might say that the game is too "consolized" for their fancy old school rpg elitist taste, but that's their problem. As you guys said, the story, the plot, the well written lore and interesting, intriguing and well written dialogs, backed up by some top-notch voice acting, the moral realistic choices and consequences, the realistic mature world, that's very much like ours, meaning there are racial conflicts, discriminations, terrorists fighting for their cause, rebels fighting for their freedom and ideals, religious zealots, politics, corruption, no GOOD or EVIL choices( unlike in bioware games).

And the fact that the combat is challenging, difficult, and way different from what gamers nowadays are used to(no wonder some complained that is too difficult, and wanted AC type combat or Batman AA combat) makes me very optimistic about their future. Plus their DRM, DLC policy, which is something "insane" nowadays, to make such a bold risky move. And the constant patches, show that they care.

P.S: As long as they stay indie(even though this means they have to enter the console market, and might disappoint many PC gamers, which already happened), and they won't be bought by a big company, I think they'll pretty much do whatever they want and like the most. Honestly I can't wait to see what they'll be doing next.

Well, you should learn about the whole story in the background of this picture then.

This 11-year old girl is a winner in a contest organized by the local authorities of a town Forney in Texas to promote interest in politics among youth. As a prize she won a possibility to be the mayor of the town for one day. Her first act of ruling was to rename a part of the town's Main Street to "Justin Bieber Way".

Yeah, figure the rest for yourself.
