Meditation enhancement, for TW3
Ive searched and didnt find any specific thread about meditation. All ive found is that is mentioned in the threads about alchemy and potions use.
Which is NOT what i want to talk about. Though ill mention it.
This is the second of my two suggestions - which unlike the one about sailing, will be more difficult to make. I dont know how will leveling up work in TW3, probably something like in TW2 but my suggestion is practically level up system agnostic. - Will work with any.
And the team already has this part of the game almost finished - most likely. So Im not really expecting devs to just accept this idea that easily, if at all.
But i think its worth a try, to just suggest and leave it here. (if nothing else, im going to mod it in myself one fair glorious day)
The thing is, in previous games meditation was sorely unused and underused. Or was funnily restricted in some ways. (you had to find a fire place but you couldnt make one yourself, etc)
It did have some good uses, smaller things, that should stay.
A nice, helpful additional feature was resting to pass the time, which helped with quests that had a time component.
But I dont see much sense in Geralt creating potions or even bombs and traps - while in meditating trance
(i have no idea was this done like this in the books though, but the game has already taken some liberties in adaptation)
Yes we can imagine he goes into some kind of Zen alchemical - mechanical state in which he makes better potions and bombs and traps but... that just seems ridiculous. Especially when you consider that he cannot make them while not in trance for some reason...
There was one other thing that is on track with what i will suggest, - in TW2 you allocated talents while meditating. Witchers and thus Geralt should only level up - whatever form that takes - while they are meditating. Because it is unique and it fits with the lore very much.
This should continue and be expanded, enhanced. Mechanically and visually.
Most of all - meditation as Witchers do it, to me means - they are adjusting their physical and psychological capabilities, cleansing themselves, healing - and preparing their body for upcoming difficulties and specific challenges. By way of improving specific capabilities and traits that they may need.
Mutants that they are.
Which is something that alchemy and potions obviously help with and facilitate.
And they should continue to do. - Without removing anything from any planned or already built use of potions. - which wont be used during meditation anymore. Which all actually fits with my idea. Which could also help with this new potion system by supporting it.
My idea and suggestion is that Geralt should level up and allocate talents or however that goes in TW3.
Along with useful, positive and lore appropriate things such as healing, cleansing his body from various things, etc.
BUT - he should also be able to use meditation to change his main attributes, or - his body capabilities.
This may be facilitated by drinking a specific rare alchemy potion and or something like a Mutagen.
Which application and exact influence Geralt would then be able to control in some details - while meditating.
and so be capable of:
- Increasing his raw strength.
- Increasing his speed and reflexes.
- make his skin more resilient to specific types of damage.
- Increasing his sign capabilities - which can be further diversified as needed.
- increase his body capabilities to absorb more alchemical potions then usual.
- heal specific heavy injuries and poisons and stuff like that. (in addition to usual stuff like that)
- something else im currently not seeing or remembering.
- specific new things that will be present in TW3.
All of this needs to be balanced, so it doesnt become too powerful. Of course, the most obvious way to do this is to play these enhancements off each other so increasing raw strength would decrease speed and reflexes, or sign capabilities and vice versa. - and so on.
Some of these enhancements can have some sort of duration.
This would serve as basic preparation of Geralt physical capabilities - literally altering his body - which would then be further specified through potions and their specific effects.
I would also wish that monsters in the new game are actually more then a match for Witchers capabilities, so different ones would actually really require different approaches in this sense too - and require full use of potions and traps to overcome. - which is the only way i actually feel im playing a character that actually takes on real monsters. An actual Witcher. Usually available only through hardest game difficulties.
Which will probably be the same in the new game too...
As i said, i dont expect and i actually doubt devs would do something like this, for many mass market casual reasons.
But... who knows... maybe something will stick.
In the meantime, if anyone else has some ideas how to further improve this kind of approach to meditation as something more serious, important and effective then just passing time, feel free to chime in.
Question:
anyone knows do they plan to add something like traits in the new game?
That would be a great thing to control and change through the meditation, for example.

This is a fine and reasonable feature, in line with the setting and lore about Witchers and should of course stay.Meditation will typically restore your health and endurance, as well as cleanse you of toxicity and intoxication.
A nice, helpful additional feature was resting to pass the time, which helped with quests that had a time component.
