Mesh import without piracy?

Is there a way mere mortals (who don't want to spend $3500 on Max or become criminals) to bring their 3d content into the game?

A Blender exporter would be awfully nice since you have access to Blender no matter what your actual software choice is.
A standalone Collada or Fbx importer would also work.

Or maybe the file specs are released somewhere for the community to implement their own exporter?

Thank you for your reply. It might be useful for some people.

Unfortunately I'm not a student anymore. Regardless of whether they require an email or not, that offer is only for students. If you use that and you're not a student that's no better than piracy - you're still using an unlicensed copy.

I don't think this is a problem as long as you don't use the meshes created with the student edition for commercial purposes. And since you are not allowed to gain money from Redkit this problem solves itself.

"While the Autodesk Student Version software incorporates all the functionality of our professional licenses, it may not be used for commercial or for-profit purposes, as more fully described in the License and Services Agreement."

CD Projekt is working on The Witcher 3 right now and they don't have a lot of time to work on Redkit simultaneously, so we will most likely have to use the tools we can use right now and shouldn't wait for blender support.

Ps: And if you still feel bad about it, you can just try to write an e-mail to 3DsMax support. They are able to tell you if it is okay or not if you only use it to mod games.
