In reality, they're just discouraging people from playing what could be the best RPG this console generation.

You say it. "Console Generation".
I totaly understand PC Gamers who are disappointed with the Grafics in general because this Game could have been a technical masterpiece of never before reached level.

On Steam, the game hovered around an 82% for the past two days. Now all the reviews are deleted. Interesting.

Are you sure? I just went in and looked - still seeing plenty of reviews there. (Through Steam Client).

Or maybe that's a different review section. I don't see anything in "public reviews".

@Dragonbird When I checked this morning they weren't there. Looks like they're back now. **shrugs** I checked both the website and the steamworks client and they weren't there so I have no idea what was going on.

@Herbert2 I just meant "console generation" as a measuring stick. I didn't mean to imply for consoles. And the game is still a technical masterpiece of never-before reached levels --but the technique isn't in the graphics, it's in the writing. I pity anyone who is so hung up on the graphics --which still look great, btw-- that they can't see that.

Yeah, the writing is fantastic. I'm still thinking about some of the quests even hours after completing them and I'll probably keep thinking of them for years. The writers really know how to use conflict to produce morally ambiguous situations.

As for metacritic, a user score of 8.8 is really good. Users are tough to please, but they are also much harder to bribe. DA2's metacritic score comes to mind...

User scores are either meant to be ignored or you add a 20 pt margin of error. People in general are dumb and with anonymity, even more so. What matters is that the not dumb people are enjoying the game.

Yep, this says it for me. Hence, I normally ignore scores on metacritic or even on amazon and others. Players are generally more emotional about these stuff, and just the slightest annoyance can make them vote irrationally. Even the most avid fans of the franchise do. I mean, giving a zero? Is there nothing beautiful about Witcher 3 for them to warrant such a score?

Reminds me too much of Sims 4 ratings. People who don't even play that game or much less own one, are rating it and giving ultra low scores to bring it down just cause they hate EA or because of rumors of things that won't be included in the base game. Idc about EA, I just want Maxis games.

In conclusion, I generally just trust my own judgement on the game based on what I see in front of me. Other people's reviews are secondary that may or may not influence me to buy/play the game. If I get disappointed, then so be it. Btw, Witcher 3 is a great game. Just the lore alone is great.

Cheers. Going back to hunting that Assire var Anahid gwent card in prologue one more time (mentioned by Primaguide). I wonder if anyone has found it yet.

The Witcher 3 gets topnotch scores by the press and also by the users BUT the userscore is "only" at 8.8 on metacritic, because alot of people rating the game 0 or sth like that just because of the downgrade ... while saying its still a great game others just playing it for 5h and saying its shit. I dont get such people :( TW3 gives me the witcherfeeling nails me at my chair and is just so good ...

Not only was there a significant downgrade, but CD Projekt and gaming domains lied their butts off. Then when you get to the game basic things like AI shooting through objects and time of day visuals completely not working correctly....

I'm about to go give this game a 5 because of so many game breaking issues I've encountered today on top of the terrible game design to not use level scailing in an "open world" game. Go to a level 3 quests? To turn it in it's deep within a level 10 area.....

Either the big gaming domains are oblivious as hell, didn't play the game, or were simply paid for good reviews.

Doesn't surprise me.

There's a lot of stubborn and/or stupid people who cannot comprehend a simple sentence that say's "WORK IN PROGRESS" and have no clue how much a game can change during development.

On top of that you also have the typical haters, and the straight up "herp derp morons".

To summarize some of the most ridiculous mind blowing things said in low score reviews by those individuals:

* All the villages look the same

* There are no quests

* You cannot develop your character

* Boring fetch quests

* Not optimized, yet some of the same users who complain of not being able to run the game properly are complaining about downgraded visuals....

* Blatant lies that the game is being advertised with the E3 demo work in progress footage.

* Ugly graphics

Now, the LEAST insulting things i could say is that they are morons, it's the kind of people that if u'd meet them on the street u'd shrug , turn around and walk away without saying a word because nothing in the world would help you deal with the stupidity that they are spewing.

Heck, there's even a guy with a radeon 6950 complaining about "downgrade" and that the graphics are ugly, and game not optimized because he can only run it on minimum settings... keep in mind that is a 4-5 years old card, which also was NEVER considered a top end card.

There's only two valid technical points one could make:

* Lack of FOV sliders, for those who are prone to get motion sick

* Lack of controls customization out of the box.

But to give the game anything below 7.5 because of those two issues combined is unfair.

I've no idea what you were expecting but 8.8 is a remarkably good user score - in fact it's higher than I expected, since most of the time when Metacritic users are unhappy about something (the graphics downgrade in this case) they completely trash the game and it ends up with a user score of 5 or 6.
