Jesus, this game is so boring and repeptive...

boring, repetitive gameplay -> check
bad, lazy game design -> check
boring, uninspired story -> check
uninspired, plain bad art design -> check
almost non-existing variety -> check

I have no idea how it could get such good scores. And I certainly don't know why I have bought it in the first place...

:facepalm:

Ahhh...there is this side mission when you have to kill an heavy armored Uruk...but suddenly he calls many captains in the game, so it was 1 vs 6-7 captains...yet i never died so far and killed them all, by using stealth kills from above the tower that is nearby...I recorded this, if no one believes me
game can get really boring at times...but it is fun, sometimes...but the rescue mission...oh those missions are the most annoying...like 24 of these in total, it's more than the story it self...
But as a perfectionist...100% is my goal every time...or at least close to it.

Its a shame your not enjoying it, but I can see how its done so well. As a Tolkien fan the level of detail (the collectibles) is fantastic. All canon.

Personally I think your comments on lack of variety are a bit harsh, only because there are so many ways you can approach a situation, for example...

Well done for taking them all down, but if the captains surrounding this armoured Uruk were taken down before the side mission then there wont be anyone to rush to his support.

Plus the design is very rare. When developers say "living, breathing environment" more often than not, its just scripted. Coded to look like free-will.

Mordor is the first game in a while where the unpredictability can sneak up on you. Uruk movements are never set, and you never know if your about to fall into a battle or a fight for life.

I'm nearly through the story, which has kept it moving along well, taken me a little longer as I love doing side missions and collectibles first. which turns out is VERY useful at some stages in the later story. Max your health asap, it makes a hell of difference if you get crossbow uruks above you or the spear hunters surrounding you.

I think Arkham has shown a lot of developers how to do flawless combat, and as a huge fan of the Batman games I got into the combat really quickly, even down to some of the commands.

The Nemesis system is great, you can really build your own rivalries, I have this one brute of an Uruk called Tavlok the Gentle...... he isnt, he's a steroid riddled monster in plate armour.... and despite my best efforts he has taken be down twice (shame) because he always has crossbow-uruks around him. So he is far more powerful and has risen up through the ranks, meaning the can call the aid of the lower captains. Back up arrives really quickly...... but he'll be dead by the end of today!

I appreciate the game won't be for everyone, but with beautiful visuals and a gaming mechanic that allows you to plan, revise and kill your own rivals, I recommend it to anyone.

Good one?

Anyway, just beat Tavlok the Gentle. Very satisfyingly cut his head off!

Sure, that would be great if the game itself was more fun. All the nice details and the dedication to keep the game canon are wasted if the rest of the game isn't very much enjoyable after all... :/

I know that many people will disagree with me on that one but I find the combat in Shadow of Mordor lacking. Combat in AC for example is way superior. Why? Well, that has many reasons. One hit, one kill mechanics (realism!!!). No respawning enemies (!!!). No literally endless killing. Well orchestrated group combat. A well suited sense of skill and power. And so on.

I also don't like the Batman games very much neither. But that's mostly a question of personal taste I guess, even more than a question of combat mechanics (I just don't like super classical cartoon super heroes...). ;)

I'm no expert but doesn't it kinda screw with canon though? I've seen this stated several times and it mentions uruk-hai... wasn't that Saruman's doing that took place in the LoTR books/movies?

Yeah I noticed that online as well, I think its just confused journalism and other gamers thinking that larger, True Orcs, Uruks are Uruk-Hai. Which I guess is easily done, but I think thats all it is.

Hm, the litte details of canon lore might be nice, but I detest collectibles. Why waste my time searching for things in a game, which in itself have no play value other than to be found. Same with achievments, just tedious things you do to complete the game. I rather have proper content.

See I've always loved collectibles in games, nice way to learn the lay of the land.

Found all 500 agility orbs in Crackdown 1, that was...... long. To to point where I could hear orbs in the real world........

The developers seem to "understand" the universe, even making songs that sound very Tolkien-ish but one of the main themes of the books was that even the smallest person can have an impact on the world and making the game solely about action seems to be a bit against that, deliberately even...but I suppose it makes sense in Mordor. As previously mentioned, the game is very good at showing the ugly parts of Middle Earth but for the most part it ignores the more jovial parts of the story. The characters never smile or make a joke. As a game, it works very well for the most part but as a LOTR game? Well, yes and no...but mostly no.
