Missing One Card in Velen for the Card Collector Trophy

+
Hello all, I'm new here. I know this post isn't appropriate for this forum. But being a new member, I'm not allowed to open new threads so I'm force to pose this question/complaint here. In the last 50 days while home in quarantine, I've played nothing but the base version of the Witcher 3 on PS4, racking up 300+ hours over 2 play-throughs with the obsessive aim of collecting every trophy. Well I've gotten every trophy except "Card Collector".

The Miraculous Guide to Gwent says that i'm missing 1 card in Velen and 0 cards "which can be won from players with no particular renown or skill". I've done all the gwent missions so that means that there is still one card to be bought in Velen. That makes no sense because in the last 2 days i've down nothing but trek across Velen, checking every merchant and innkeeper for buy-able cards, even the shopkeeper in Claywich. Saying it's fustrating is an understatment because that one card is the only thing preventing me from getting the "The Limits of the Possible" final trophy and moving on to another game.

I've done everything possible and even cross checked websites telling me exactly where to buy cards. Yet to no avail. I'm still missing 1 card in Velen. My question is, is there a glitch in the game that is preventing me from finding the final card or is it actually hidden somewhere like the card that I randomly found laying on a table in Oxenfurt at Stejan's shop? I'm at my wits end. If I don't find this 1 item, it would drive me crazy knowing that my 300+ hours of grinding with the single-minded purpose of collect all trophies came to nothing because of one stupid, seemingly inaccessible card. Someone please help.

Hmm I think I can offer you a way to start your investigation..

Since you play on your PS4 you aren't using any mods so we can cross the possibility of mod incompatibilities out. There is a specific amount of gwent cards you can earn in game. You can't for example have more than 3 decoys and since you have played every random player and bought the cards from each merchant, here's what you can do.

Visit this page, which lists every single gwent card and a way to obtain them. Open your gwent UI and start crossing out each card that you already have. Eventually since you are missing just one card, once you have crossed the ones you already obtained you will find the culprit. The site that I gave you also has hints on how to obtain each card in game.

If the card you miss comes from a quest then you will either have to reload an older save or unfortunately start a new game as there's no way you can actually obtain it. Keep in mind it's very easy to miss gwent cards too, some of them are very sneaky to obtain.

Good luck on your quest and don't lose hope! If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

There are a few cards in Velen:

- Zoltan Chivay, loot from corpse by the Hanged Man's Tree (only if you didn't beat the first Gwent opponent in the game)
- Sigismund Dijsktra, from the Baron (either defeat him or, when he leaves, grab from his drawer at Crow's Perch)
- Cards purchased from innkeeps in Velen

Then there are the cards from the quest Gwent: Velen Players:

- Letho of Gulet, won from the boatwright in Oreton (Nilfgaardian Empire deck IIRC)
- Vernon Roche, won from Haddy in Midcopse (Northern Realms deck)
- Crone: Weavess, won from Old Sage/soothsayer in Benek (Monsters deck)

I'm not sure if Zoltan counts towards the Velen cards.

These opponents are easy with an endgame deck, but I'm not sure whether the Gwent quest disappears after progressing too far into the game. If that's the case you'll have to either make a new save or play from an older save while collecting all of the cars over again.

BTW you can play Thaler and Roche as well as a few other people in the wilderness south of Novigrad, but I don't know if they count towards Novigrad or Velen (probably Novigrad). These quests will disappear with far enough progression, but you probably did them already.

It doesn't.

Zoltan counts towards White Orchard since that's where you can play the scholar, and the card was only later (patch 1.05) added in Velen in case you didn't play.

Thaler and Roche count towards Novigrad, yeah.

the card that I randomly found laying on a table in Oxenfurt at Stejan's shop?
 Never heard of this before, but it's apparently intended. Assuming it was the Toad card.

Have you managed to track down what card you're missing?

Someone had the same issue here, and turned out (the last paragraph) the card needed to be won from a "player of no particular renown". They'd already played against that NPC as well. Definitely some kind of a glitch; maybe yours is the same.
(I think it's related to how merchants sometimes don't give a card the first time you play against them.)

Thanks to all the people that took the time to respond. No, I haven't managed to track down the card yet. I spent nearly two hours today tediously cross referencing my entire collection against the cards listed on gwentcard_com. Judging from the website, I appear to have every single card in the game. To the people that suggest that I might be missing a card from a gwent specific quest; I knew going into my 2nd play through that the "Card Collector" trophy is the most difficult trophy to obtain. So I was very careful to be Gwent focused throughout, playing every Gwent quest, challenging every NPC player and scouring every area for players/sellers before leaving it. It's ironic that despite all that effort, the game is telling me that there is still one Gwent card available in Velen somewhere out there in the ether.

A Miraculous Guide to Gwent says that there are 0 cards "which can be won from players with no particular renown or skill". So that rules out all tradesmen outside of gwent missions. I did all the gwent quests in the game, even going out of my way to win matches in Whoreson Junior's casino. So unless there is an untriggered yellow exclamation mark somewhere on the map with a sidequest that rewards you with a gwent card, I've done every gwent related quest in the game. Draconifors, I read the thread that you listed. Unfortunately, as per the Gwent Book, the NPC shopkeepers and skilled workmen no longer give me any cards after I defeat them. And it was the toad card that I found on a table in Stejan's shop.

Tomorrow I will make one last attempt and replay every gwent-playing NPC in Velen and check every single shop/innkeeper for cards. If that fails, I will just have to delete the game from my hard drive and never look back. I know that's being sour grapes but I'm just pissed that after spending 300+ hours playing and doing everything that can possibly be done in the game, I'm being prevented from obtaining the Platinum trophy due to one card that's missing in Velen. It's fustrating because for all I know it could be some sort of glitch that is denying me that final card. Anyway, thanks again guys

If I were you, I'd playing NPCs outside Velen despite what the "Miraculous Guide to Gwent" says. But honestly since you said that you have already acquired the cards from the site I gave you, I think you might be unlucky.

If that fails, I will just have to delete the game from my hard drive and never look back.

I can totally relate to that, hunting trophies can be really frustrating at times especially when you miss out on simple ones due to bugs.

@Zpectre87
"Sigismund Dijsktra, from the Baron"
I was thinking the other way around, the Baron card from Dijsktra.

My worst trophy was the 50 head shot one; too time-consuming.
Welcome here Sir_Battle_alot.

If you have the HoS expansion, there's a merchant added by that expansion that, if memory serves, sells Gwent cards that are missing from your collection. He's found in some sort of fair roughly north of Oxenfurt and east of Novigrad, near the village of Carsten.

Attached the cards I collected with NPC locations, not 100% accurate, some HoS and all BnW cards missing. Some are acquired during quests. If you missed those, you need to start a NG+, unless this mysterious merchant exists, whom I can't find any mention of.

I've heard that the player must have started Open Sesame (part of the HoS main quest) before the merchant appears. In my games I've always found him in the vicinity of Carsten.

Wheeeeee! I found the final card today. I was on the point of giving up when I decided visit Lindenvale for one last time to recheck the inventory of the merchants. Lo and behold the shop merchant suddenly had the Gwent card that I needed in his inventory. Keep in mind that I've shopped at this specific trader multiple times in the past and he did not have said card in his possession which leads me to believe that it was a glitch after-all that was preventing me from finding the card. Anyway, that's all in the past. Right now I'm estatic that I've gotten the Platinum trophy and can finally move on with my head held high knowing that I've done everything that can be accomplished in the game. It may have taken me 306 hours, 53 days and 2 play-through to do it whatever, I got my money's worth :) . Now that it's all over, I'm kinda sad tbh. I lived and breathed the Witcher 3 world for so long that it feels weird having to leave it. But alas, I must (I will save the DLC's for later on in the year after i've read the books). C'est la vie Geralt and friends. It was fun while it lasted :)

I wanna thank all the people who took the time to help me out. Being a new member of the forum, I wasn't expecting much when I wrote the original post. So I was pleasantly surprise to see so many helpful responses. You guys are great. Thanks again

Good to hear! Just a tip - do the DLCs as a continuation from your main game, rather than starting them separately from the main menu.

most likely you missed someone with whom you can play. + you need to free another merchant in Velen and buy missing cards from him. Most people let him through. its location on the screen. he will then appear in Glinnik.
