Mod Concept: Distance fog

Mod Concept: Distance fog

Lets talk about the possibilities of distance fog. For those of you that are modding .envs, what is possible?

Aside from the obvious stuff from the sword of destiny trailer, (color scheme, lod/architecture, lighting to a lesser extent) distance fog has a huge impact on the overall scene.

Not sure if anyone has noticed, or has comparisons, but in Novigrad (region and city) the fog is thinner, but still blue. Can't post links, but for example:

In the Sword of Destiny trailer, some of the distance fog is grayer, and low hanging to expose the tops of mountains. Unrealistic, but artistically nice
Velen doesn't have such thick blue fog either. If it exists, it's grayer.

Has anyone found reason to believe the behavior of the fog could be changed? Such as some weathers having a wall of fog, others the low hanging? Or some weathers having grayish fog rather than bluer?

And as a bonus, can environment and weather color filters also be tweaked? I'd like to dabble in all this, but I have no knowledge specifically of W3 modding, so a jumping off point would be wonderfully helpful

I, for one, can only say that I'm more and more amazed with each screenshot you're providing. You are really doing some magic here, so thank you very very much!
Apart from the awesome reflections there's something about the lighting that makes it look very close if not better than the 37min demo. I can't really put a finger on it, whether it's the overall lighting or colors or even all of it. But I can say for sure that I'm loving it!

Especially that last screenshot looks downright glorious! Apart from the obviously awesome reflections there's something about the lighting that makes it look very close if not better than the 37min demo. I can't really put a finger on it, whether it's the overall lighting or the brightly light highlights of the clouds and the distant mountains, or colors or even all of it. But I can say for sure that I'm loving it:smiling2:

Anyway, thanks for quoting me here and I must say I agree...again ;)

The draw distance is the same regardless of the fog. It's still rendering the distant lod stuff. Also, I agree that the fog is a bit iffy looking, and a bit over done. But, I dunno where you live, but where I am there is distant fade/fog IRL. I think the terrain would look really weird without it. Albeit toned down a little.
