Mod editor

+
Hey guys,

I was trying the mod editor but I don't think that it actually saves my works.
I explain: I tried the tutorial from marvelmaster about hairworks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06pU4MhgZ7s), but the thing is when I pack & install, it doesn't work. The gryphon's hair stay black and no folder have been created (no one in the game files, and no one in the mods creations files i created)

But when I pack, the editor end with this:
Mod Installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\..\..\Mods\modgrass_and_foliage

one thing to try is temporary move your w3 game folder to C:Witcher3\ and try the Sarcen Mod Editor again. Most programs do not like long path lengths and that is quite the long path for your Witcher3 game directory.

Sarcen,

When I select in Mod Settings, "install as DLC", it creates the folder structure in <Witcher 3>\DLC\myDlcName\content. Shouldn't it be dropping them into \content\bundles?

I wondered this too but does not seem to make any difference

Hey I had the same problem and fixed it by running the mod editor in administrator mode, hope it helps!

Nah i already tried that, and sadly it didn't work :( .

Mod Installed to C:\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\..\..\Mods\modHairworksColorTest

I'm searching what I could have done wrong but I find nothing for the moment :/ .

Nah i already tried that, and sadly it didn't work :( .

Here is what i've got from the editor:
I'm searching what I could have done wrong but I find nothing for the moment :/ .
it's installing into the wrong place, it does that for me too (into bin/x64/blablanottherightfolder

Go to C:\Witcher3modding\mods\HairworksColorTest\packed , then copy the "content" folder and paste it into your w3directory\Mods\modHairworksColorTest folder

I see.

Well now i got another problem, then. I can't find any file related to this mod in my mods directory. I mean I can see it through the file search built in Sarcen's editor, but I can't see when I open my mods file. I tried to copy/paste the file using the search file of the ditor, but it didn't work. I looked at the properties and unchecked "red only", but I still can't see it.

---------- Updated at 06:28 PM ----------

Is there a way to change the path to install the mod ? Maybe i could access to the file that way.

When I try to copy-past my file from the editor (where i can see and even load it) to the desktop, I got the error 0x80004005.

Also, the program is surrounded by a green box. Maybe it's nothing, but I didn't see anything like that in Marvel Master's tutorial. This box is stille there when I try to launch in administrator and without the antivirus.

I still think that the problem is the program doesn't properly saves the files in my mods folder before installing it in the game repository.

Anyone have any luck with adding LocalizedStrings? Last I saw was no way to add our own strings because we don't know enough about the format the .w3strings file are in. :[

Sucks I have to replace preexisting strings to do this.

This string editor: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/959/

based on sarcen's string editor, adds an import / export function to the original editor. unfortunately it's all in chinese. o_O

However, I did manage to export an .w3string file and edit it in notepad, seems like you can just add new entries to the file then reimport your edits to the .w3string (unfortunately I wasn't able to manage that, t'was late and my chinese isn't the very best.)

Maybe you have more luck... I also asked the author on the mod page why he didnt make this available in english too. No reply yet and that was like a week ago.

But if I understand this correctly, you could make a copy of your en.w3strings file, export it, delete all exisiting entries, make some new entries and reimport them, then load them with your DLC, I guess. Just gotta make sure you use some IDs that aren't already used by the game... like 6666661+ should be good.

Nice find. Lucky for us, gf is chinese. Let me see what I can figure out.

Edit: Tried it, unfortunately no dice. The import/export is just for importing in mass edits of preexisting lines.
Edit2: I asked the Chinese author if he knows how to add that functionality here: http://mjicalblog.sinaapp.com/into/414.html/comment-page-1#comment-49

Hi,

I think I made some progress (maybe). I re-installed the modkit and made another try, and I ended with this error while compiling :

Mod Installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\..\..\Mods\modGryphonHairColor

---------- Post merged on 14-11-2015 at 02:16 AM ----------

So now I know that this probleme take place during the uncooking of the game, because the same error appears in my cmd when I try to uncook the game. It happens with the original installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt) and the new (C:\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt).

And it happens also after verifying/repairing the game through GOG.

The messages says what issue you are having. You have bad scripts with duplicate definitions. You need to remove the duplicate. You shouldn't try to do so many different things at once. 1 step at a time, confirm it works, then add the next layer of complexity.

That's what I am doing, don't worry :) . I just don't post everytime i make something.

And you are right. I deleted the scripts in the modkit installation folder, and it's uncooking right now. I'll see if the mod editor finally work after that.

Thx for the help :) .

---------- Updated at 03:28 AM ----------

Ok, so I uncooked the game correctly, and then tried the editor again ... and I'm back to the beginning :( .

BUT I finally found where the editor saves my work : C:\VTRoot\HarddiskVolume2\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\mods

Wut ?

Anyway, I can now at least copy-paste this file to the game folder and it works.

@Sarcen

Could you perhaps add a function to explore and extract from bundles without having to create/open a project.
Also ability to extract entire folders and their contents instead of singular files would be nice.

Another feature I'd love to see is having .w2ent files from The Witcher 2 work. I'm not sure if it's at all possible, but it'd be great if it worked.
I tried it, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
