Thanks witsw!Any chance you could give me a real quick rundown of how to retexture something? I'm really proficient with Photoshop and would like to retex some of the swords and stuff, to make them look more metallic and shiny.Doing the graphical work would be a breeze for me, I just don't know the steps necessary to get the vanilla textures into a format that I can Pshop, then get my result back into a format that can be used in the game.

I hope this helpsLinks to helphttp://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Moddinghttp://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=12307.0I use this program to extract fileshttp://csimbi.googlepages.com/unbifNote: Extract files somewhere outside of the game directoryI do not use photoshop, I use two free programs called PAINT.NET & GIMP (Paint.net is my Fav)http://www.getpaint.net/download.htmlhttp://www.gimp.org/windows/Note: Be careful what format you save in (very important for images that are clear)for installing

Basically, you make an "Override" folder in your Program Files/The Witcher/Data directory and put mods in there. This is for small tweaks to the game -- new adventures are handled differently.

Use UnBif to extract. I use PAINT.NET to edit and save like this in .DDS format
Note: Picture is Paint.netthen place finished file in C:\Program Files\The Witcher\Data\OverrideI hope this helps, if you need anything more just ask :)

Witsw's post tells you how to unbiff the game's data files so that you can get the files you need and where to save them when you're done. S/he doesn't use Photoshop, though, and it sounds like you do, so I'll add this. If you've worked with DDS files in Photoshop before, then you probably know everything you need to know. If you haven't, then you'll need a plug-in from Nvidia. Some of the Witcher DDS files are in DXT1 format and some in DXT5; if you open the file in WTV, it'll tell you which format it's in, so you'll know which one to save the altered version of the file in.

Have fun, but be careful -- I can attest from experience that this stuff is addictive. :D
