Please, don't take this into a subject of gender in games and such.

I'm only asking if it would be easier to pull this off when there is already a playable female character in Witcher 3.
Since you could perhaps use these already existing animations, model and such.

I can see that translating all the Witcher 3 dialogues can be a big job, but others already do this to make the Witcher 3 game come in polish, english and I don't know if they do russian, french or german as well but you know.

So it must be possible to translate the dialogues right, make it fit the modified Witcher 3 female character.

Last question some of you ask is why I would want this!?

All I can say is, if it is possible - it's possible. Another's reason is not someone else's reason.
You know what I mean? Some might like the idea, some might not. It's not a contest or a poll.

Also from the beginning I have asked these questions.. I've considered to do the modification myself.
I'm sure others can spend their time on something else they think is more useful.

Putting most of the previous responses aside, to answer your question, theoretically, yes, it could be done. It would be possible, but you would need to find like-minded people to do it for you.

Like many people have mentioned. Aside from the fact that every single line of dialogue would have to be rewritten to match a female protagonist, this is also the story of Geralt of Rivia. The story of Witcher 3 only works, because it's Geralt who has a rich past with all these important characters. Geralt searches for Yennefer and Ciri, because he has a emotional bond to them, established in 8 books. You would have to headcanon this bond if you just assume a female Witcher (assuming a female Witcher is possible, because there aren't any and no Ciri is not a Witcher ) searches for them. Not even mentioning all the other characters Geralt is having somekind of connection to (King of the Wild Hunt, Emhyr, Triss etc)
What makes the Witcher games so great to me are all the connections between the characters established in the books That's why i hope if there won't be a Witcher 4 with Geralt as the main protagonist, they will let us play as Ciri. Giving us the possibility to create a character would kill a lot of the appeal of the series imo, because this character wouldn't have any connection to all these great characters we all love. Not even mentioning that these playyer created characters are usually very bland and shallow and have barely any personality.

Well, let me remind you that TW3 is translated in 14 languages, not 4 or 6. And If yoou feel yourself with the will enough to do it, do it. Good luck.

I just found out there is a modification for Witcher 2 that let you play as Saskia.

While it makes no sense for the main plot of the game to be translated to an original female character, there's still some merit to the concept. Assuming that the modding tools will be extensive enough, people could mod their own game stories using the setting of The Witcher 3, and create entire original adventures to any kind of protagonist that they like. It would be a lot of work to be sure, but there are some very dedicated modders in this world.

But what you intend to do equals one impersonation. That woman you think created from the mold of Geralt, with all the nuances which CDPR has been careful to highlight, be quite plasticized. books, stories, people's reactions against Geralt, everything is designed around a male figure. The work is not merely look and dialogues.

Good luck, really.

Do you mind to link it, please? I would like to see how Saskia attack herself in the tower. Or how she got the remembrance rose....

As far as modding is concerned, there are only two criteria that matter.
1. Is it possible?
2. Does someone want to make it?

It doesn't really matter if 99% of the players think it's a dumb idea and would throw a brick through their PC before installing it. If those two criteria are met, it will probably happen. That's the whole point of having modding communities, and it's why we get bronies in Skyrim, and yes, mods that change the protagonist in TW1 and TW2 to Triss or Shani or some random elf NPC or a nude dwarf (OK, I didn't go and check to see if that one exists).

@wichat.571 - I'm not sure about Saskia, but here's Witcher Triss for you.

To be fair, at one point you will play her:

And if there are different armor designs for her, she would be nice to have in a modification to replace Geralt for those who would want that.

PS: If you wanted to know where to find playable female characters for Witcher 2, it's found on Nexusmods.
There is playable Triss, (Ves and Saskia is here: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/739/?)

This picture you posted is not an official game material. To make this work you would need to rewrite whole story of the game.

What? I found the picture in post #9: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/34360-Witcher-3-Screenshots-and-Artwork?p=1580223

That's the thread that is dedicated to posting screenshots and art released by CDPR for The Witcher 3.

Correct, but that particular one is concept art, not in-game assets.

I think the only constructive idea we may draw from this thread is the desire of some players for more female protagonists in games. While the original proposition to modify The Witcher III doesn't seem particularly practical, or rewarding, I believe it does speak to a larger concern in the gaming industry. This concern is closely tied to very sensitive, and often aggressive, questions of gender, identity, and equality. I'll leave off here.

But it's not necessarily specifically about gender here since it's about making a different character in place of Geralt. If you're willing to do that, why not create a different adventure altogether because everything is written for Geralt so you would be redoing everything. So why not make a different adventure, this would at least have a tangible value and you can reuse game assets to make something different.

And, to expand this, because the sections with Ciri are going to be rather short, she will most likely not have different armour models.

I made a very similar point myself:

RivenII said:
Yes, a game with Ciri as the heroine would be much more suitable to this concern. Changing Geralt's gender accomplishes nothing. The time, effort, and creativity would be better employed in crafting a new, unique character, with an independent story, and identity of her own.

@JacobWitcher I'm not sure I understand the wish. Is it for just a different skin to play the game with, or to have the game and the story modified for a female protagonist?

It's just out of curiosity because I believe neither of these will happen.
