Monowire?!

+
So I read an article mid 2019, it was a CDPR dev talking about the monowire and how it could be used to strangle, stealth kill, and hack enemies. I was overjoyed when I found it in the game, that joy quickly turned into disappointment when I realized the monowire literally does NONE of those things. Yet another missed opportunity for this game, feels like I've said that a lot this last week.

Certainly, if a dev was talking about it then those assets should exist somewhere?? Hopefully, content like this can be added to the game down the road? The stealth kills are terrible in this game, models are clipping and glitching into each other constantly. Nothing looks or feels right about any of the stealth kills, and the fact there are no animations for stealth kills with a knife, or katana, or ANYTHING else other than your bare hands feels like a big miss. Much disappoint.

Yeah, and in spite of the fact it says (for my character's build) that it does more damage and hits faster than the mantis blades, it certainly doesn't feel like the case. It's just a melee weapon with a bit of range, and damage potential that drops dramatically the more you strike with it, and MAYBE can hit multiple enemies simultaneously? It feels like it seriously underperforms compared to mantis blades or katana and I have not yet found a case where it didn't feel entirely useless.

Guerilla arms don't rip open doors, high strength does.
You can even force open some doors with high technical.
Monowire could have additional move set you're not discovering. Melee has more than two attacks.
There's light, heavy, attack while blocking, attack while sprinting, attack while kneeling, attack while jumping.

Yeah, Gorilla Arms seem completely useless. They don't allow you to rip doors open, that's just based on Strength. So what's the point of them? Just another melee weapon? I mean, grab a sword and you can one shot most things anyway. So they're a waste.
Mantis Arms... same deal. Who cares about yet another melee weapon that's much less effective than a regular weapon?
The monowire is the same. Okay, flashy whip thing... that does little damage compared to other melee.

The only somewhat useful arm cyber is the gun arm. And that's only because it can be used as a rocket launcher. You're generally going to be much better off with a regular gun anyway, but the gun arm's rockets work somewhat better than a grenade (because grenades take WAY too long to go off, they really shouldn't have a 10 second or so timer).

Monowire seems to scale damage on Blunt, and levels Street Brawler.

Given that the weapon is bladed, inflicts bleed (reminiscent of Reflex Tree) and stacks with Cool damage. I'm genuinely confused what the developers intended with this weapon. I'm genuinely confused and disappointed. I felt it would make much more sense scaling off of Reflex/Cool rather than Body/Cool. And something like Mantis Blades would function best off of Body/Reflex or Body/Cool build.

It feels like these Cyber Arms as a whole are just not working as designed or need to be reassessed in terms of intent.

Is it just me or do we all think the monowire synergy is a bug? I can't imagine both it and gorilla arms are supposed to be attached to the same tree when the others are separate...

I have not tried using gorilla arms yet but I'm sure they're not working as intended, I hear a lot of people saying that. I guess I was willing to put a blind eye to most of the inconsistencies/bugs in the game, but when I got the monowire and I couldn't even stealth kill with it, that's the straw that broke the camels back for me.

They really need to add kill animations for melee weapons and clean up the current stealth kill animations. I know it's CDPR's first time doing a first-person game so maybe the team isn't as skilled as other devs in that category? I dunno, but just look at the stealth kills for any other FPS try to replicate that (Dishonored, DOOM, Far Cry, etc...)

I've only used the gorilla arms but they are handy when you need to take someone down with a non lethal attack and you always have them equipped, can also add mods to them to change weapon damage as needed.

All arms cyberware come in rare/epic/legendary forms as well so I'm intending to buy them all at rare after getting a discount at a ripperdoc through a side mission and see which I like best to continue on with into epic/legendary.

I remember a video where V was clinging to the side of a wall with mantis blades and leaps down to slash some corpo guys. was this feature removed too?

Yeah, I also remember where they were talking about using the wire for hacking or strangling opponents.
Seems like it's cut along with so many other Work In Progress systems because it was simply too much to implement.

Nanowire hacking abilities at the 11 minute mark.

Older footage, WIP.
Starting at 05:00, there's a picture of a more engaging hacking world that what we got. (And wall running with Mantis Blade support)

Looking back at this, I would've loved the more physical approach to hacking.
Having to first get your hands on a guy to hack the system he's connected to?
Visualizing the connected network and squad members? Yes, please.
It could've been an additional layer of immersion forcing players to go up close and personal to hack certain enemies or groups of enemies.
Now almost everything using Night City 20G networks... except some consoles here and there. :/

I've only used the gorilla arms but they are handy...

LOL. Pun intended? :D

Also - very strange how mantis blades were literally the first 'iconic' thing in the game advertised way back in 2012, but they haven't been implemented properly in the final product. It really does feel like the released game is the compromised and rushed result of development hell.

Yeah, was excited to find the monowire at a shop, but it felt too much like tossing around dental floss. There's just not enough weight or impact to it at all, just doesn't feel satisfying to use. Was kinda hoping for a lash manevuer like from Bloodborne's threaded cane attack.

I know bladed combat is overall too light as well, there needs to be more weight to swinging the weapon around and landing a blow, but man...

Yeah, for my stealth netrunner I was overjoyed to find it. Until I found out it was just another melee weapon. So I switched it for the projectile launcher, which I like better but I'm disappointed it doesn't use the grenades in my inventory and the engineer ability doesn't affect it.

Is the ammo for the launcher unlimited then?
