Movies / TV Shows!

Watched the third part of The Hobbit last Friday.
What a drag... seemed like a neverending nightmare. Too bad they do this with a loved literature classic.

I watched Fury. It was refreshing to see a movie about a tank, being a tankist myself. There aren't any that I know of. I was happy to see that a lot of effort went to detail and creating the right dynamic between the crew members in that metal coffin. It's 70 years in the past but still there are a lot of similarities, whether maintenance, black humor, or just the general behavior between the squad. Regardless of my personal reasons, it's a very good and tense war movie by itself.

^ I'm going to watch the exact same movie in a few minutes from now.

Now then, onto today's business I saw the newer RoboCop today and John Wick, the former being pretty good, contrary to what I thought and the latter being fucking amazing.

I guess the 'flak' the newer RoboCop receives is because it's not the same as the older movies, well the acting is a bit... dodgy but other than that I believe they did a stellar job in 'updating' the themes to match today's thoughts and trends, the original RoboCop movies were a product of their time made from the thoughts and ideas of the future at that time and corporate politics, it simply cannot be replicated today so instead the conflict became about drones and machines on the ground in today's age and it focused more on Murphy's 'humanity' and psychological effect.

John Wick is operator porn, that's all I can really say about it. If you want to see EXTREMELY WELL CHOREOGRAPHED gunfights then John Wick's your movie. Here's a WebM to give you a glimpse:

I have RoboCop recorded for a while now, just waited for the mood to strike. I'll probably see it this week. And that WebM of John Wick was awesome. It reminded me a bit of Equilibrium with how surgical his movements are.

Their main mistake was breaking it into 3 parts. It was doomed to come out bad for such a short book. 3rd part is the most unnaturally stretched (since they simply ran out of the book material already). And unlike LoTR films where the third part is the strongest, in the Hobbit it's the weakest of all three.

Rewatched the 1988 Les Liasons Dangereuses (Pfeiffer, Thurman, Close, Malkovich). Not quite as involved as the epistolary novel that was the source for the play it was written from, but still an excellent movie...

Watched it yesterday. Awesome!
It´s always fun to watch movies about pissed off badasses!

Yeah. I mean... who thought it´d a good idea to make a 2.5 hours movie out of basically the last 2 chapters of a short book?

I don't know if someone has mentioned this movie, but I just finished watching "The Drop". It is a crime drama with an interesting plot. What really stood out for me was Tom Hardy's performance, I mean it is amazing how well he portrayed his character "Bob".

Really recommend this one, even if the plot line is somewhat predictable it is presented in such a great way by actors and director alike.

Watching a beeb rerun of Smiley's People, old John LeCarre spy television series, Alec Guinness is fucking brilliant along with fairly much everybody else. They really don't make tv like this anymore.

Le Carre is amongst the very best of cold war spy fiction.

While the Karla cycle are the most well known, there are other excellent books as well... and some have been made into films. All were produced by the BBC as radio plays which are well worth seeking out.

Watched Wolfhound with english dubbing a few days ago.

Moment at 26:50 always reminded me of Sauron... and now Wild Hunt.

P.S. Is it voice of Hawke I hear from Wolfhound or not?

Video is blocked here in the US. :(

Trailer looks interesting though. Is there anything in the credits about the english dub cast? There is no information about it online that I can find.

Blocked? And this one too?

Sadly, yes. The Weinstein Co. has it blocked here on copyright grounds. <_<

I finally got around to watching Gone Girl and it was fantastic. I'd usually expect a movie like it to be full of suspense - but it was not, instead it told the story in an interesting way and kept me curious the whole time. Great characters, intriguing story, and yet another awesome soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Recommendations all around.

Oh, and I'd seen X-Men: Days of Future Past as well, it was... messy, to say the least, but hell if it wasn't entertaining. I'm not sure where they were going with it to begin with, or where the X-Men movies are going as a whole...

Just about to rewatch the 2005 Beowulf and Grendel. It is a film I like because of the unreliable narration (the minstrel's translation of the gray moral tone of the 'reality' into the epic and heroic poem we have...), and the excellent performances by the actors, the landscape and the weather. Has a surprising amount of humour, and is less OTT than the CGI Beowulf of the same-ish date.

One of my daughter's favourite films too ~ she has always loved Grendel since I first told her a potted version of the tale when she was young.
