Loved Black Sails since episode 1, and yes I agree they need to flesh out Blackbeard more like how great he was in AC4, but at the same time I got to say Charles Vane was terrific here, and boy I'm going to miss him. Funny to think too because I also watch Shameless (US) and his character (which was his prior role before this one) was hilarious!
True! I initially disliked Vane (partially due to him being an asshole and getting in Flint's way in the beginning, and also because of how annoying he was in Ass Creed 4) but he really was amazing by the end and I gained a lot of love and respect for his character. I hope the actor goes on to do more good stuff.

I've seen really mixed reviews about it, still haven't decided if I'll go see it or not. Might just way for the blu-ray.
How does it compare to Avengers? And then how does it compare to Nolan's movies?
This is no Dark Knight, and while Bale did a good job, looking at specially portrayal of Batman, I'd without a hesitation say Ben Affleck completely killed it both as Bruce Wayne and bats. Right from his physical appearance, facial expressions to body language, he nails almost all scenes he is in. I guess he's pretty much the selling point for the movie right now.
The mixed reviews are because this film is really straight forward with not much bs, and people feel entitled to spoon feeding and entertainment according to their liking. While I agree it's flawed, it's inconsistent at times which seems majorly the problem, otherwise it hits the right spots on every other front. Soundtrack is epic.

tl;dr: Go watch it for the visual and thrill treat it is, and don't let some les miserable reviewer tell you what to do or how to feel

Been watching BBC's "War and Peace" I love it..

Ade Edmonson's character was an instant love of mine, and Brian Cox and Kutuzov.

It was a really good adaptation! I have to say James Norton (Andrei) was my favourite. I also like him because he voices Cole in Dragon Age Inquisition. He is a wonderful actor.

What did everyone think of the Black Sails season 3 finale?

I loved a lot of it (Anne being fierce af, Jack's knack for strategy impressing Black Beard, Billy joining a creative writing group, Max reading out Billy's letter lol and the SilverFlint conversation), but I definitely felt like there could have been more action. The entire finale felt like more of a set up for season 4, which is fine, but also meant that I felt like the finale lacked that climax that the episodes usually have. I was hoping for all out war but instead we got a few fights and a prelude to war lollll.

BUT i am loving all this character progression.
Silver in season 1

compared to season 3
.
The wardrobe change is obvious but Silver's character has evolved so much too.

I'm also really happy with how Flint's conversation with Silver went, re: the discussion of Thomas and what happened. I just hope that Flint gets a happy ending. I know in Treasure Island, Flint is dead, but the show has continued to talk about how James and Flint are different people so... maybe 'Long John Silver = the end of Captain Flint, but leaves room for the survival of James :') It would just be nice if a queer character doesn't get killed off eventually, since it tends to happen all the damn time.

God I really can't wait for season 4.

I think it was amazing, though maybe a bit shallow for a finale. I must admit the writers of story and screenplay in this series are stepping it up all the time. Damn if this is the one of the best series of surprising the audience ( or at least me ) by the cunning style how they present the plot and keep the tension.

Silver's character is going to be big! Damn the actor's going to nail the role of Long-John Silver in season 4, i can feel it. I think the ending was great!

Will they release expanded Black Sails OST? Music is quite good, but they released only initial set.

Damn, I didn't even notice that it was finale already. Can't wait for the next season too :/
As for Long John Silver, I loved this character when I read The Treasure Island as a kid, and Black Sails version of him is getting into right direction. I really like how he has changed from season one, it felt very natural, it's really well written character.

Max reading out Billy's letter lol

Yeah, I liked that scene too, she must have been really happy about keeping this secret :D

I wouldn't be very surprised, you can't believe everything pirates says, especially that if I remember well in book Flint's dead wasn't exactly clear.

Yes, the writing for all the characters (but Silver especially) has been so well done, it didn't feel sudden or forced at all, I almost didn't notice the change?? Weirdly until I looked back at season 1 and was like, wtf? Silver used to be so different!

Max and Flint surviving the end of the show is my ultimate dream. That and Flint getting with Silver but I will settle for Flint surviving

Also speaking of Silver, I think it's very curious that we know nothing about his backstory, or who he was before Flint's crew found him. He clearly had no issues joining a pirate crew and leaving his previous life behind, so I'm quite interested to know what exactly he was doing. It doesn't seem like he had a naval background like Flint - he mentions he doesn't even like the ocean, so how did he end up on a ship??? I need to rewatch season 1 again lmao.

I also bought season 1 and 2 on DVD yesterday. Since there aren't any other shows with such excellently written female characters or such great bisexual/gay representation, I feel like I should try and support the show as much as possible. And besides that I'm telling everyone I know about the show. You'd be surprised how much 'gay pirates' gets people to start watching.

Yep Black Sails is amazing right now, it will be interesting if the show goes on till death of Flint and teases Treasure Island , which is like nearly two decades away.

According to the writers, season 4 takes them almost up to the point before Treasure Island - although I'm hoping they've still given themselves enough space to write a 5th season, I'm not ready for it to end yet.

I hope that none of my faves die. :(

Where did you read that? The show is somewhere in 1717-18
Which probably means Blackbeard will be out mostly next season too, seeing these guys are trying to historically accurate as possible. :(
and TI takes places 2 decades later, some years after Flint dies. Heck even Vikings doesn't do such a time skip

Actually it's in the early 1700's. The time period you're speaking of is post Napoleonic Wars and long after the Golden Age of Piracy which is widely accepted to have ended by the 1740's.

Here

"The Season 3 finale looks like it’s setting up the endgame, with more elements from Treasure Island than ever. Will Season 4 be the last?
Steinberg: It’s hard to say. We’ve been spoiled by getting renewed so early in the past. We have an end for Season 4 that we’re very happy with.
Levine: It stops short of the book, but more than any show that I’ve ever worked on, Black Sails production is very intense. We take it one season at a time."

I actually read a paraphrased version of this interview but now reading it for myself I think this sounds like they have left enough room for another season or 2 and are still hoping to get renewed for more than just 4 seasons, which is good.

I'll be pretty mad if they kill off Blackbeard so soon. He's barely even done anything yet, talk about an underwhelming character. They should have introduced Mary Read if they were going to bring in anyone.

Well historically...

....Blackbeard was killed in a battle with the Royal Navy off the coast of South Carolina in November 1718.

Yeah but talk about underwhelming.... unless they do something good with his character i'll be annoyed they brought him into the show instead of Mary Read. I was/am so in love with her in Black Flag.
