Movies / TV Shows!

I watched it for about 45 minutes before I lost interest. Sort of a jumbled up mess of story lines pulled from other movies. I thought maybe it would make more sense if I could find the books it was based on for some context, but I can't find any. Apparently it's an original story.
Yeah, a kind of roller coaster of rather good things and rather bad things almost everywhere...
Like the very beginning, some great camera shots/effects (shots at sunset with the gas giant was quite stunning), but then they ride creatures (not sure the name^^) which are obviously just horses with "masks" making weird noises... It seem really cheap. It's the same for almost everything :(

Maybe the second part in April will be better, part 1 might be just the "intro", we'll see :)

Currently re-watching:
Neflix's DARK (probably one of the greatest pieces of visual media ever created)

I also recommend:
Twisted Metal (pleasantly surprised by this one...)
The Righteous Gemstones
What We Do in The Shadows
(The film then the TV Show)
Wellington Paranormal (another spin off of the above)

...and I still fall asleep to Futurama every night as I have for 20+ years.

To be honest, Ive been too overloaded with everything coming out Ive found myself rewatching more than exploring anything new. It's exhausting sometimes.

At first, I thought the horse with the mask was really just a horse with a mask, until I realized it was supposed to be an alien creature. It was bad.

I wanted to binge watch over the holidays something that I had never seen before. I stumbled across a show called "From". It's really good. Sort of Stephen King meets Lost. The first 2 seasons were good. Looking forward to season 3. Speaking of Stephen King, there are some big questions still up in the air about what's going on, so I really hope the ending doesn't turn out to be the Langoliers. He's a much better writer stoned than sober.

Someone recommended me Alice in Borderlands. I didn't know what the expect but it is surprisingly very good. I also watched Squid Game, just to go with the hype. But Alice in Borderlands is for me the way better one. It felt more "mature" especially the games they need to play and better character development.

I also see many other series I might like in this thread. I also have to continue Black Mirror.

Not really great, but not really bad either. Overall, meh... Some great camera shots and a lot (maybe too much) of slow motion.

I just started to watch it, I also do have a "mixed" feeling.

The bad:
The plot is simple and cliché and also predictable. This is the worst part of the movie, and it could be so much better.

The mixed:
Character development is kinda okay, it's not good but also not great. Both the bad and mixed isn't the actors fault, but more the script and the writing. It could be way more better.

The good:
This movie is visual insane and the music is so good. And i'm normally very picky when it comes to visual effects and CGI. But holy crap, this movie is visual good. Some scene's do still feel a bit fake, but I have this in so many movies. Only the aliens could be way better, but the environments are so good.

I do still like it though, but it's not the best i've seen.

Alice in Borderlands is good. Sort of a Japanese twist on Squid Games. I loved Squid Games (the original, not the stupid new game show that stole its name). I used to make fun of people who raved about it. Then I watched it, and realized it was great.

The Koreans are doing some of the best television / movie writing and production anywhere right now, and have been for the past several years. I ran across another new one during my holiday binge watching: Gyeongseong Creature. The sets, the acting, and the story are all excellent so far.

Well, Alice in Borderlands is based on a manga as far I know, and the first season of Alice in Borderlands was released one year before Squid Games. So you can say that Squid Games is a sort of twist on the Japanese Alice in Borderlands. :p

Now jokes aside, I do agree with you though. Korean and Japanese production value increased insane over the last years.

I also watched Kingdom, which I also liked. A very good Korean horror serie.

Thanks! I didn't know that AiB came before Squid Game. I only started hearing about AiB about a year ago, so I just assumed.

Started off the new year with this movie. Heard they took quite a lot of inspiration from it for 2077. One of my personal favorite cyberpunk films I've seen so far!

Watched a few movies recently.

The first was a western spoof called "Blazing Saddles", which was hilarious but showed its age.

The second was a comedy called "Mouse Hunt". I had seen it once before, like 15 years ago, and only remembered one scene: a room full of mouse traps. That scene was my favorite this second time around, and the entire movie absolutely hilarious.

The most recent one, tonight, was a big disappointment. It was a 1945 film adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic "And Then There Were None".
The film completely changed the last parts of the story, especially the ending, and I really, really disliked that. It was thoroughly dumb and lame -- the exact opposite of the original story.

Damn no way, love Mouse Hunt! Been a while since I watched that myself haha. Thanks for the reminder! ;)

As a kid, I was intrigued by WW2. I collected books, watched a lot of war movies, listened to my granddad stories and I even know a guy who was in the resistance. He carried his whole life a picture in his wallet of a bridge. That he blowed up with his friends, to slow down the germans. They all died of old age.

As I grow older, my interest changed a little bit. I'm still intrigued by WW2 but not so much as a kid anymore. My family and I even adopted WW2 veteran graves. Which means we maintain WW2 veteran graves for the families in America. So, they don't have to fly towards here to maintain the graves. We do it for their families.

Now back to topic.

Now in my vacation, i've decided to dig up some nostalgia and watched Band of Brothers. After that I continue with The Pacific, and my god I forgot how good these mini serie's are. The Pacific is not good as Band of Brothers, but both serie's are very well done. Now I want to re-watch more movies, like Saving Private Ryan or even older movies like A Bridge Too Far or The Longest Day. I still have to watch Hacksaw Ridge, never watched that movie.

I can only agree with that. Overall, I was rather disappointed, precisely because of the flat, almost infantile narrative that rushes from location to location far too quickly. Too much of the familiar. Old wine in new bottles.

I thought the technology, sets and camera were good. Even if there was a bit too much bullet time. The acting was also o.k. I like the dark, dirty setting. It fits quite well. I didn't need the Nazi references in the officers' uniforms at all. I found it unimaginative.

In the end it's enough for 5 out of 10 points.

True, I also think that the "dark" setting fits really well. The actors do have potentional but being holded back by the poor writing. Yeah, the Nazi outfits was also kinda cliché to be honest.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of „Masters of the Air“ it is great so far! WW2 show about American bomber crews, by the team behind band of brothers.

the maxx.

seriously. you all NEED THAT IN YOUR LIVES.

And Daria. god good writing is hard to come by these days.

Nerdrotic does a great exposure to how many bad film we have since woke culture. So that's one thing.

Otherwise, I love somewhat obscure or basically sophisticated media.

As in psychological, mind-bending, sci-fi, plot twists, supernatural, etc.

Although, ultimately it's kinda hard to find good film or tv.
There's so many bad ones.

Tom Holland in The Crowded Room is a recent great TV series I finished a little while ago.

I finally got a chance to watch the new Halo television series. Oh, wow did they screw up the Master Chief badly.

I think the actor is alright, although he needs to be about a foot taller (even though he is a tall guy), but the character is written terribly. Fortunately, the show spends most of its time calling him "John" and showing him without armor or helmet. That seems appropriate, because whatever the character is supposed to be, he definitely is a poor version of Spartan John-117, the Master Chief.
