Well, similar feelings with most of y'all towards today's episode.
Since didn't post about these earlier from last week, Hannibal was terrific. Da Vinci's Demons really now seems to be going towards more exciting prospects with the discovery of the "new world". And Orphan Black had a great start, except for one thing which felt like a cheat in the end.

Leaving sunny California? Hope it goes well, moving is a pain in the arse. Just watched the first episode of Turn, pretty good show. Also watched the latest Hobbit movie. Lovers of Peter Jackson, leave now...

Jackson is a bloody hack. He reuses the same damn camera techniques every ten minutes, constantly spinning and panning in or out. He does it in every movie. It's ridiculous. And when the hell the did the elves become invincible super ninjas? The fight scenes were way over the top. I still maintain that the very first LOTR is the best he's done and it's because he didn't rely so heavily on CGI.

Just watched the latest GOT. To me, one of the best episodes. It highlights the fantastic dialog and cinematography the series is known for. Hearing the Hound justify his actions or Twyin lecture about what makes a good king, it's all superb. Only two gripes: the lust and nudity seems like a box they need to tick at this point. I was going to post a link from Vikings where Horik and Siggy are having sex and it's just perfect, but I can't find it. The director here needs to show more subtlety with the sex scenes. The other longstanding gripe, and maybe this is Martin, almost everyone is capable of the worst deeds in Westeros. Be it Jon Snow, Aria, Ygritte, these characters are hard to relate to when they'll stab anyone in the back when it suits them.

Many women experience pleasure while being raped, because the body is made in such a way as to enjoy sexual activity, but it's still rape and it's still unacceptable.. What happens in the book, and I did check it myself earlier today, is more like Jaime pushing Cersei into it but although she has her protests she accepts.

Hell the show had Drogo raping Daenerys whereas in the books he actually was quite gentle with her on his wedding night and that is what led in part to their loving marriage.

Many people actually argue that this change with Daenerys and Drogo relationship was for a better, as it was more believable reaction from a girl that was pretty much sold into slavery. She doesn't immediately go along with it, but instead she grows stronger with time, then earn his respect and finally fall in love with him.

Back to the Jaime and Cersei thing, here's some well-thought-out interpretation of this scene:

The interpretation by "NousWanderer" that you quoted is very much insightful and to the point. This is a case where the production team got it right, something Martin didn't even come close to. Jamie isn't "pushing" Cersei into sex, and she doesn't "accept" anything. He rapes her. It is because she has driven him to the limit of his endurance and the only way he sees to lash out at her.

Martin's puerile sexual fantasies are not worth the staging. Better, just as with Daenerys and Drogo, to replace them with the work of writers who know what they are doing.

So was the mad Tireiron king trying to bring Dragons back to life with all the burning and stuff, did he have Dragon eggs?

Exactly. NousWanderer did a wonderful job in his post. Whatever good or bad people believe this show is, it sure makes people think and come up with good arguments and explanations. And yes, I agree, Martin's sexual fantasies are better be left out of screen.

https://tv.yahoo.com/news/game-thrones-breaker-chains-episode-181600643.html

Gosh, a lot of people in the West are real fucked up. Jaimie throwing Bran from the tower - cool, no character assassination here, just a nice plot twist. Jaimie raping Cersei, and if you read NousWonderer who did a great job explaining why it perfectly fits Jamie's personality, it was a character assassination. I won't continue or I will be banned again, and I don't want to live without this forum for tree days.

Except the director himself can be quoted as saying it's consensual. Martin goes to the limit of what is acceptable...and even far beyond that I grant you, but even he wouldn't call a rape scene consensual sex.

So no you can't claim competence when there is obvious idiocy.

Except that the fact that Drogo was gentle and kind to her after a life of misery is what led to Danny being able to love him and come out of her shell and that made her stronger.

Danny in the show is a fucking mess.

Yes and god yes. My boss also decided that since I was leaving, he was going to close the office. So I had to sort, shred and pack for the office too. /killmenow

Just watched the first episode of Turn, pretty good show.

I find it pretty meh myself.

We just finished House of Cards. Depressing, but pretty involving nonetheless.

Agreed on both counts with Hobbit and GoT. Michael Hirst has obviously learned a lot from his show running experience. D & D are first-timers and sometimes it really shows. I just rolled my eyes at the Viper-Ellaria brothel scene. Could it be any more pedantic. I still like the Viper for standing up to the Lannisters, but the show is making him into kind of a fop.

Eh, it was the first episode so benefit of doubt, they had to set up the characters and plotlines but now that I've watched 3 episodes, I concur. It's alright, decent timepass nothing more.

I did like the newest episode of GoT, but the first two were better.. I don't have a huge problem with Jaime raping Cersei, because with all what he has been through, everyone (except for Tyrion) is giving him a hard time from the time he has come back and the woman he loves is only criticizing him and is scared of his arm, and it just shows how much a bad effect has the presence of Cersei on him.. i'm not justifying what he has done, but i can see why he has done it.. the Sam scenes are not bad, they are just boring right now.. that orgy scene wtih Oberyn wasn't necessary (there are some episodes without any kind of nudity, so why are there this scenes in every one this season, i don't know), others scenes are good and very well written and acted (even those which are written not by Martin himself)

I'm just thinking...

GRRM is involved in the creation of GoT, he even writes episodes, so he did sign off on this scene that people have problem with that would mean he considering this fine/better, can't say I can argue with the creator that his portrayal of a character he's written is wrong.

GRRM was interviewed and he said he had no consultation on this episode and that it was "quite different" than his own interpretation, which is GRRMspeak for "I hated it." The Wicnet post that explains it did put some perspective on it for me- the fact that she demanded Jaime kill Tyrion in order to get back into her graces pushed him over the edge, etc. Mainly I think the controversy is overblown because it's sexual assault. Jaime's character was already changed significantly by having him kill his cousin to escape- which ostensibly also was for Cersei.

Of the GoT seasons, I think this has been the best since season 1.

That said, sadface at no Strong Belwas.

I'm still a bit behind on Game Of Thrones. I'm a couple of episodes off from finishing season 2, though I am starting to loose interest in the series as I really think the story is being told too slow and the creators of the show seem to be more interested in showing unnecessary sex scenes to get controversy views rather than moving things forward.

Sex is the new cool in TV shows apparently.

Gotta hand it to the GoT creators though, how they manage to fit a little bit of story in between porn.

I've been watching Breaking Bad with my parents. We just began season 4. Season 1 was interesting. It was slow, and mainly laid down the groundworks for the future story. But still, you struggled to see how this is considered one of the best series made. Then season 2 came, and it started kicking into gear. It was an awesome season, with a great finale. But that 3rd season...

omg wtf

I didn't know quality could improve so suddenly, and so steeply. And that final episode... holy shit.

Maybe I'm not objective because I read the books and so things hold less mystery to me, but still - and this is coming from a fan of Martin's world - in regards to TV series? I feel Game of Thrones isn't as enjoyable as Breaking Bad. The latter focuses on a much more local story, and I think that that is its strength - it doesn't spread far and wide, and accordingly, it can focus on what few characters it has with much more depth.

Maybe it also has to do with me growing disillusioned with ASoIAF/GoT, since realizing that thousands of pages will probably be wasted - everything is leading up to the ice zombies attacking, and to Daenerys returning. These two events will render almost everything that happened in the civil war moot. It basically feels to me like one big giant filler, or exposition, for the main story.

Anyway, Breaking Bad. Wow.

GoT is a sophisticated soap for geeks, geeks wannabe and/or people discovering fantasy.
You're right. Breaking Bad is way better. In a way... It's for grown ups.
