Glad to hear you have enjoyed the show so far, Chew! And yeah, everything you listed about the 10th Doctor is the reasons why I really love David Tennant as the Doctor. And of course his charmin quirky personality really helps a lot. Shame that you didn't like Rose that much. She is one of my favorite characters in the show, and I really burst into tears in the season 2 finale. I think that season really showed how romantically involved the Doctor came to be with his companion, something that hasn't exactly happened before in the same way. And I loved how they did it in a very subtle way, palpable as you described it.

Anyhow, I'm certain you're gonna love further seasons with Tennant. Martha Jones is okay, I like her a lot but she isn't anything really special. But I'm sure you'll like it for different reasons.

Sheesh, Blo, I wish you'd said what you really thought. I've just wasted several hours of my life on this garbage.
I didn't make it to the end.

And it wasn't because it wasn't faithful to the original, I haven't read it. Nor was it entirely because it wasn't faithful to history, because Edward III's era isn't my strong point. It was because it had so many plotholes and ridiculous twists that it was just total crap.

I'm starving for new episodes of Futurama... There's just not enough of them!
But sadly the last season did hardly hold up to the series' former glory. Btw, the best episode of all time is still "the sting".

Oh good it's not just me then. On a more positive note, been watching a series of film noir-ish tv movies based in Galway, Ireland and starring Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) as a disgraced Gardai officer turned gumshoe. They're very good and highly recommended, sounds a bit iffy in concept but it really works.

Been watching House of Cards, a new TV series starring Kevin Spacey. It's pretty good, although I'm hoping for some major things to happen in the next season.

Just looking it up - the first one is called "The Guards"? They really need to start getting more inventive with their names. I assume there'll be a thriller called "The Guardai" this year?
(And I know it's totally unrelated, but I did enjoy "The Guard".)

Dona, if you liked the Hollywood adaptation you might want to watch the originals, House of Cards, To Play the King and The Final Cut. Very good acting.

Dragonbird, yeah that's the one, think it's called Jack Taylor.

I want more too! Think the new ones are pretty good too though, just love Bender. Probably not as good as the previous seasons, especially before the break, but I still find it very good, and miles and MILES better than the current Simpsons, which has become a faint shadow of itself, sadly.

Have watched some of the episodes of Oliver Stone's documentary series on US history, and have found it excellent. It's great to see these lesser known things reach a wider audience as well.

I recently watched House of Cards too, dam it was cool! I'm currently watching The Sopranos now, it's a bit slow so I take long gaps between episodes, right now at season 2.

I thought I was the only one catching up on old series. Me too, but I'm up to the final season.

with Mads Mikkelsen. It's about some espionage stuff I love the variety of locations and the clever protag.

On the fence about that adaptation of Hairy Trousers life, bloke playing him doesn't look impressive enough, hope they don't wedge too many modern anachronisms into it. Still an overlooked aspect of history, wonder if it'll end in the Orm Garth with his famous last words.

Say hello to Vermithrax:

This dragon remains in my mind one of the best creature designs to ever come out of Hollywood. The film is a little before my time. It's grim, medieval, and dark. There is no other fantasy movie quite like it, because it eschewed all the tropes of high fantasy in favor of a realistic, historical setting...sound familiar? Well, apparently G.R.R Martin was impressed enough to name one of his dragons after the androgynous Vermithrax. Amazingly, this is a Disney film, complete with gore, death and nudity.

Wow Vermithrax Perjorative from Dragon Slayer, that was a fucking awesome Dragon, good film and Peter McNichol really plays against his usual type. That's what a beast such as that should be, utterly terrifying and majestic, almost an elemental force of nature. Disney used to have a pretty big set of balls.

To celebrate the BBC tv centre at Shepherds Bush closing down they're re-showing a bunch of classic series, watching I Claudius the other night, very minimalistic with the acting taking the fore over music, setting or what have you. Good stuff though, Brian Blessed playing Augustus Ceaser as a kind of jovial Godfather really stands out, and of course the matrons and maidens of the eternal city are as viperous and scheming as all hell, very Lady MacBeth.

I had to google Vermithrax, I have never even heard of this movie. Weird considering it's Disney.

I'm in movie mood these days. Watched Total Recall - first the old one (oh man, it was crap), then the new one (decent action, overall nothing special). Neither are nearly as good as the story that inspired them. Now I'm back to The X-Files, after being freaked out by one episode for months *hangs head* The episode wasn't even that scary.

Dragon Slayer has become a cult classic. It's aged of course. Your basic fantasy, simple story, but steeped in an authentic dark age atmosphere. Kinda like a dark fairy tale.
