I read about the MP in another forum. I hoped it was a lie, seems true. Well that sucks. Sorry, but it depresses the hell out of me to know that any resources that could be used on increasing the singleplayer experience is being used on annoying MP. The people who are for it have NO IDEA what goes into game development and how much MP screws up game designs. I really wish they would ditch the MP and just focus on making a fantastic singleplayer game.

Its going to be a single player game with multiplayer elements. That doesn't mean the game will be designed around an MMO or anything like that. Some of us are expecting, (or more accurately 'hoping',) for co-op. I also expect some sort of social elements and maybe a player driven market area.

Did Diablo 2 lose anything by having co-op? He'll no, it was better.

CDPR are also throwing more resources at 2077 than they even had available for TW1 and TW2. The company has expanded dramatically and they are still independent so they are beholden only to themselves.

Now back away from the firebrands and the pitchforks, no witches or monsters here.

I agree. Put the fire and pitchforks down. I would love to see this as a MMO and yes it can be done. But this game is not being built as a MMO. Unless I have missed some post about it. Which I really doubt I have. With that said, the only way adding a multi-player element to the game will doom it. Is if it was a last minute thought with zero time to programming. I don't see any of those errors being made by this wonderful team that is designing and building the game. Please but the normal back into your pockets and have so trust in the team designing the game. Because normal doesn't belong in Cyberpunk. Well most of the time. Okay fine, in maybe needed as element to game play. I mean without it, how could we have a tactical nuke go off? If you are still having some doubts. Then I ask you to think of the time you play Cyberpunk alone. Did you enjoy playing it that way? If you did, I have some more questions for you.

To me, the most reassuring part was when they explained why TW3 will NOT have multiplayer. It gave the impression that they knew the pitfalls, and that they had no intention of adding something just so that they could sell it as multiplayer.

Social elements/scoreboards/achievements...bah, I want none of that. That IS for the COD crowd. If there is a way to turn all that junk off then fine, I will ignore it. I deal with the dredge of humanity EVERY SINGLE DAY at work. I play games to get the hell away from them. I sure as hell do not want to run into them in my games and it is why I do not play any multiplayer games. However, if this is one of those stupid things like dark souls where I keep running into different players, or see the actions of different real world players in the singleplayer part of the game, I will honestly be pissed. I do not want to see messages from 12 year kid calling everyone a fag d00d. I do not want to see real world players running all over the place, I do not want some sort of auction house, or real world economy. I just want to play a singleplayer game in piece, is that too much to ask?

I am also really suspicious of multiplayer/social BS being put in every game. Companies often use it now to hawk DLC/Microtransaction BS. Online connection is often required for even the singleplayer game because of the "social" features and is just another form of DRM being PR spinned as "enhancing" the experience.

Ok, did not mean to make this harsh. I just REALLY hate multiplayer/social BS. Just do not make it a requirement, or gimp the game unless you use it.

I understand your other concerns, but regarding the ones quoted, you might want to do some research on how CDPR operates as a business and what their approach to gamers is. Take their latest message to the community as an example:

They have no history of including microtransactions in their games and any DLC they make comes as a form of patches or eventually Enhanced Editions of their games (Witcher 1 & 2 so far) all released FOR FREE to gamers.

I am not saying that I think they will not do a decent job. I am just saying that I am bummed that resources that could have been used for increasing the singleplayer could be used for multiplayer. This also does not mean they would not add some kind of social feature like demon souls which allowed idiots...oh sorry, I meant players, from other games to intrude into your game. If it can be turned off without hurting your game (oh, you NEED the MP feature on to access this feature), then It is fine.

I have seen MP take away more than add anything to any single-player game. "Hey, lets add MP" seems to be the trend of most lazy devs now (I am NOT calling CDP LAZY, I am just pointing to a trend in gaming devs). I am always (usually justified) suspicious whenever I see it. I do not think this is the case with cyberpunk and maybe it will be an amazing experience, who knows. Wish they would give more info, however I doubt we will hear anything until W3 is out the door.

It's a rarity in the industry to find a game that does both well, but this is because most devs are under a tight schedule, must answer to publisher demands, or they aren't committed to MP in the first place. With CDPR, none of this applies. They answer to no one but themselves, have said repeatedly the game will have a robust, non-linear single player campaign, they've said it's done when it's ready and they are insanely dedicated. Not to mention the income they'll garner with another successful witcher game, I wouldn't be surprised to see them build their team well beyond the 210 members they have now. This is perhaps the only time ( with the exception of Larian's upcoming Divinity: Original Sin) That I think a team known for quality SP can pull this off. Myself, I hope SP takes priority and we get some new creative but minimal MP element, or better yet, good old fashioned Co-op.

As a general rule, good SP and good MP go hand in hand as it comes down to gameplay mechanics.

Blizzard games are remembered as multiplayer game but they all had a good campaigns (albeit wings of liberty was somewhat lacking compared to the original). I preferred the SP campaigns as the micro skills were not really required.

System shock 2 is remembered primarily as an SP game, but the co-op was not that bad.

If the stuff in the economy thread is implemented (shameless plug), it would be a grand game indeed.

Does this only (officially) apply to The Witcher 3 or to Cyberpunk 2077 as well?

PS love CDPR. "Sell outs" couldn't be farther from the truth.

Well, so far it only applies officially to Witcher 3, CP2077 is too far away for them to confirm anything about it.

I really don't get this multyplayer panic omg omg

If handled well in a nice coop mode it will be amazing.. A few example was the neverwinter nights saga... I still play online with a group of people and with a GM that make awesome campaing....

If Cyberpunk 2077 follow this forula on multyplayer will be amazing.. Is based in a pen and paper game after all....

This game will be NOT a mmo so please cut down the panic and have some hopes

I wouldnt mind a coop mode at all. Especially since the source material is a multiplayer game.

But mmo games are so much fun. I mean having to pay for them monthly is one of my favorite parts. On top of that having to farm, like most mmos make you, makes you want to hug a chocolate covered bunny rabbit so hard it cant breath until the farming is done... the farming is never done! >: D

For what i felt playn TW and TW2 and what i've seen around in this forum, i feel CDPR is still one of a kind, like the enunuch singer whom shocks you when he open his mouth.
After reading most of the replies(ye i try to be respectfull but 54 pages of answer are much also for me ^_^ ) , i gotta say that i admire the stubbornness of many player of SP. I feel that way often cause it create an unique and intimate of gaming experience. What i felt lately for "Last of Us",for example, is amost love.

But there is a but. What happen when the game is done? Start it all over with other class, OFC! But for how much you might switch and change your decision and lifestyle, the main history is the same, the stream of coscience and knowledge about the next problem is already inside yourself. You can change the style and the dynamics of the history, but you'll swim in the same river.

I belive we are all here discussing for have the best game possible and if i must choose between a sloppy MP or a better SP...well,no need to say somethin more.
My personal dream about this game is an open world where i can DO something with it, a MP where the point is not accumulate things ands rewards and trophies, but a world where i can share some awesome and insane adventure with friends in lane or far away, have the possibility to create my own missions and objective with collateral effect and real loss, like the ghost of the cyber psychosis or the hate of a booster band.
I wanna be able to play this world for years, like people still do with Starcraft after almost a decade.
The dynamics and gameplay are foundamental, but the feelings and the scenary do a lot aswell.

Here we got one of the most intelligent and unique company working on one of the best RPG ever made, with the support of his original creator and, looks like,a big money investment in it.
We got a darkness and a stylishness proved by those 3 wallpaper they made up for us,we got a community of freaks and nerds and great people all togheter for one reason, make the best cyberpunk games ever.

I belive also the upcoming of the new consoles generation will boost and provide new standards and will tie up more in a necessity the use of internet and sharing.
If CDPR wanna set new standards in the videogames industries should think about a concept of MP that would blast anybody and anything ever made, we need an idea more than everything, and like all the best idea,is gotta be something simple and new and fantastic, something that will allow us to play this game for years instead of starting a new series of games with few improvment every second year.

After all the thing i loved most of the trailer is the fair end.

Coming: when is ready.

This gave me an idea. An undercover mission for cop characters that has them infiltrating the missions of players that play criminal classes like netrunner and Solo to gather intel and evidence on them. The criminals are not told that their coop partner is a cop and when the mission is over, they can expect a raid on their safehouse or primary hang-out.

This would add a layer of paranoia for crim players, as you wont know if your coop partner is going to sell you out to the cops or is a legit criminal like you are.

It's Cyberpunk. Everyones a criminal, including the cops.

Also, this would likely end up with almost everyone playing cops just to screw around with people. You would end up with cops spying on cops, only to have them both end up incriminating themselves in the process.

Also, the basis of that mechanism could be applied to the other side of the fence with crooks setting up raids on legitimate businesses and other crooks.

It would devolve into the entire online player base just trying to fuck each other over.
As an example, EVE Online.
