Mutagenic Potions

Am I the only one that felt let down by the fact that this particular mechanic wasn't implemented in Witcher 2?
(I admit I didn't follow any news during development. I just watched a video, said "damn! so cool!" and hoped to have a story at least on par with Witcher 1)
I've always liked to be able to brew mutagenic potions from rare ingredients obtained fighiting 'boss' monsters.
I'm not talking about the potions which gave free talent points to spend, but the potions that granted particular abilities.
And yes, maybe such abilities weren't that formidable, but added charm to the whole 'mutant' thing.
I really expected to have the same mechanic in Witcher 2, expanded with maybe more peculiar abilities to obtain.
Don't misunderstand me. I kind of like the new mutagens they added, but they are only 'fixed' statistic upgrades, not something like Predator (obtained from a potion made with werewolf fur) that is active only by night.
And it was simple to understand, you 'just' needed to create and drink a magic potion.
How does Geralt 'inserts' the new mutagens to his abilities in Witcher 2?
By the way, why stick mutagens to his abilities and not to something like a proper paperdoll?
Adding a Concentration mutagen to Arrow Redirection doesn't sund so logical to me
