My biggest issue with the game right now.

My biggest issue with the game right now.

Before I actually get to the point of this thread, I want to say a couple of things.
Firstly, english is not my main language so please, ignore the mistakes that I´m bound to make.
And secondly, this is just my opinion and I would love to hear your opinions on this matter :).

I have so far played the game for about 40 hours (not finished it yet) and I´ve come across quite a few bugs and issues. Vast majority of them were thankfully very minor and didn´t subtract anything from the experience. There was however the bug, (MINOR SPOILER WARNING) when I was unable to get Roche to help me defend Kaer Morhen, because I couldn´t complete the Eye for an eye quest, since he wouldn´t show up near The Hanged Man´s Tree. But this is not really the issue I wanted to talk about.

The issue I wanted to cover in this thread is item downscaling. I don´t know about you, but if I´m brave (or stupid) enough to do a quest, that is a couple of levels higher than me, then I should get rewared if I succeed. I´m not asking the devs to give me an extremely OP sword, that would break the game, but getting atleast something worthwhile would´ve been nice. Just give me more XP, or if you for some reason don´t want to reward me for doing that, then atleast give me the sword that I would get if I did the quest on the suggested level. If I actually go through the pain of completing a quest that I´m extremely underleveled for, then I think I shouldn´t be rewarded with a sword, that is worse than the one I already had on me (I´m looking at you Of Swords and Dumplings).

Anyway, that is just my opinion. What do you guys think?

Item-Scaling is 50/50 for me, personally. It was terrible with Oblivion, hated it. If I came across a weapon that is regarded as something godly, and It's down scaled to meet my level? Pissed me the HELL off. On another playthrough, waited a while before obtaining said weapon, and being 7 levels higher than previous, the weapon is again scaled to my current level.

Hate this shit.

However, I have a TON of quests and contracts much higher level than me, some are even deep, dark red, and whenever I actually DO manage to complete a quest several levels above me (Not dark red) the items I obtain are several levels above mine. I'm okay with this, as I have something to look forward to using when I reach the level required.

The other part of me is sometimes disappointed as I'm given nothing FOR my level despite completing the quest, and would like something I could use. Not the item in question, but as you say, something of a bonus for tackling something I wasn't meant to at my current level.

I have gotten schematics that are WAY above level for me so i am not sure that downscaling is actually happening. Or if it is it doesn't stop you from getting some treasure that is way out of reach for you.

If the player is good enough to defeat a monster or complete a quest above their character level (or far above) then yes I agree they should be able to use the gear.

Now, with that said, and as I always have done in the games I've created is the gear needs to be used for X amount of time before it attains the full stat range. So, to make a simple example, say, the character is level 14 and they decide to undertake a level 18 quest with an appropriate level 18 weapon. If that character can complete the objective of the quest the weapon is usable immediately but has a 10% penalty to it's use and functionality (whatever that may be). The important part is to remove this penalty through use and not leveling (though both can occur out of coincidence). Ex. Level 18 sword does 190-210 damage (not accurate to this game) and if a level 14 equips it then it'll have 140-170 damage but after using it for X amount of kills or X amount of time it slowly goes up in damage.

With making video games, over the last couple decades, I started using this methodology because of the houserules we used with D&D back in the 80's. It was directly taken from a magic-users houserule we made that any magic user could use spells that were higher then their caster level. The magic user could cast the spell (if they found it of course, and successful understood the spell; completely different discussion for that actually) but with penalties or even drastic effects inflicted on the user or their party.

So yes they should be able to use anything they can get their grubby hands on for the more simple gear [that just so happens to have a requirement].

Point taken. I guess I just haven´t done any of the quests that FreeFall mentioned, because the higher lvl quest that i did, rewarded me with nothing but garbage. But I think my point is still somewhat valid. If I do a higher level quest and receive a downscaled weapon, then I simply feel cheated. Maybe that´s just me though :).
