My game has started crashing as soon as I start it up

About two years ago I was playing this game with no problems at all. Today I decided to start it up again and finally finish it, but a black screen popped up for a few seconds and then it crashes. Reinstalling the game, installing from GOG, verifying the files, not of this has worked. It looks like from the event log that there is some sort of problem with MSVCR80.dll, because in it it says this:

I have looked around all over the place for topics on this, and I have yet to find any solution. With all these people having this problem surely there must be a fix? I just don't understand how a game that used to work just fine now suddenly doesn't work at all. I have gone to the location of where this faulty module is and I have tried deleting it so I could maybe reinstall it, but I can't because it says I need permission from SYSTEM, even though my account is the admin.

Fixed the title for you .

I don`t know if this will work or not but try creating another user account with admin privileges and try running the game from the new account . If that doesn`t work then you can simply delete that account .

Yep, i just bought this on the steam sale and as soon as i start it up it just crashes and says that there was an error. Please help me!

Nope sorry, didn't work. As for the guy above me, I'm sure we might be having the same problem. I know I'm not the only one getting this, I've seen topics in the steam forum about this and still I haven't seen anybody find a way to fix this. Perhaps an update caused this to happen? Is there anyway I could downgrade my steam version of this game?

Edit: Turns out using another account did work! Don't know why I couldn't get it working before but this time it did work. Thanks Tommy!

Can you be more specific on the error that is given . Have you ran a file integrity check ?
