My thoughts after 4000 hours of Witcher 3 and ideas for future games.

+
I don't visit the forums often so I'll leave my thoughts and ideas in one post.

- There are some things the devs don't tell the player properly. For example, when you see live streamers, all of them are using those ugly trash armor they loot here and there. They have no idea about Witcher school armor. Only hardcore Witcher fans who look at every little trailer and intereview know of these. The game does nothing to convey that such armors exist. Why not when I first interact with a merchant and select to see their inventory, they first tell the witcher something like, "Of course, I have a lot of things you my need but I also have things that will especially interest a Witcher. I have maps that can lead you to designs of various Witcher Shool armores. These are not average plates solderis use. They are specialized gear to give Witchers an edge and thier... ...." somthing like that. This way players will know to buy these maps and pursue these armors.

Looting and crafting:

After 4000 house, well long before actually, I've had it with looting. Really.
I still don't mind some looting but make it make sense. There should be enough inconvenience and consequence to looting people's homes. Also, how come peasant's who are barely getting by have ingots of not just steel but dimeritium, gems and other expensive stuff? The way the barons men search peoples houses for tax, this makes no sense.
Carrying alchemy ingredinets makes sense but not crafting materials since armorers and swordsmiths shoul carry those in enough quantity. In Witcher 3, armorers and swordsmiths have limited amount of ingots to buy so that when you are crafting an item, if you don't have sufficient amount of an item, say for example, steel ingot, you can buy from their shop and use that to crafting but even they may not stock enough and you have to go looking. I'd ditch that system completely and make it such that crafting items are not in their shop to buy but only in the crafting screen and they should have unlimited amount of everything needed which players have to buy with coin. If they don't have coin, time to go do quests and stuff. This way you'd reduce the number of thing that have to be looted and carried in the first place. The only crafting item the witcher will need to carry is a unique or rare item that the crafter cannot stock like a monster part or alchemy item, etc. This should be combined with RDR 2's inventory system where you can carry only a limited number of each item. Also this way a you will have more lore-accurate Witchers close to how they were described in the first game, i.e. Witchers don't own a lot except what their trade requires.
Also, why is Roach's sadddle bag not the player stash? It doesn't make any sense to me.
Dragon Age Inquisition's crafting system was neat. I am surprised it did not catch on in the industry, It was really good. Take a look at it and improve upon that.

Preparation:
Preparing for an upcoming battle is a core part of the Witcher experience in Witcher 1 & 2 but it has been nerfed to nonexistence in Witcher 3 to cater to the ADHD gamer group. But it doesn't make sense because those are people who skip dialogue and stories and therefore, Witcher 3 becomes almost a pointless game to play for them and those guys usually either return the game or buy and forget and never play. I've heard about 40% Witcher 3 owners don't go far in the game before they quit. Even if you want a simpler experience for your average gamer, I'd still like to have a detailed pre-battle preparation system locked behind a the game's higher difficulty levels.
So for Witcher 4 and The Witcher Remake, have full preparation screen containing alchemy, potion drinking, character upgrade and meditation in death march.
You really thought I'd not notice there was a little bonfire in an area just before arriving the location of a major battle in Witcher 3, did you? Preparation was obviously scrapped late in developmnt.
In addition, I'd also remove the ability to consume food during battle. It is fine to allow consuming potions but I'd add a little animatino where the player has to stop and take the drink and also, consuming in such a way should have some neegative impacts like taking swallow during battle should have higher toxicity than normal or have reduce damage dealt.
Moving forward have preparations and keep these locked behind high difficulty levels at the very least.

Exploration:
As a thorough enjoyer of RDR 2 in which I have not spend quite as long as in the Witchr games, but thoroghly played it twice, I really enjoyed exploration. I even enjoyed not finding anything after probably hiking for too long. The Witchr 3 seems far more busy in comparison. I would like to spend longer before finidng something in the next games. In Witcher 3, Geralt's fastest running speed is too high. It is possible to keep up with horses. Have more realistic speesd for the character outside combat and also have realistic speed for mounts and boats. Boats could use Aard acceleration. Maybe, maybe not but please have boat docking and a civilizedd way to get in and out, please.
Too many notes – Velen is a land of peasants withvrery few learned people yet you find so many notes and scrbblings laying about. Reduce number of notes and use them where they make sense. Use environmental storytelling instead where possible and leave some things to mystery. Skelligers may be more educated overall but knowing to read and write does not necessarily mean a high inclination to write things down and I think that goes doubly less so for the islanders, no?
Horse navigation – I don't know if this is coming up in the Remaster but in Witcher 3 you can hold the sprint button on Roach and have him follow the pathing shown by white dots on the map to reach a quest. Problem is, other than getting stuck, the pathing itself can be wrong. So Roach at some point starts to go down the wrong path. If this pathing issue could be fixed, it would be great.

Too much fan Service:
With the remaster we are getting the facility to turn off various features like gear damae or auto-loot and whatnot. While on the surface it feels a nice fan service, it also shows lack in confidence in the product. I'd rather CDPR would make a game with a vision and stick to the formula. Rockstar had the audacity to make such a slow game and stick with it and in time, even a lot of sceptics got into the game and started to love it for what it is. I'd advise to believe your ideas more.

Small requests:
Can you guys please bring back the original texture for the unpainted Ursine armor and the starting armor? To me original texture made Ursine armor the most awesome looking armor in all of gaming. 90% of the dies make the armors look horrible anyway.
In Toussaint the quest where the elf golems come to life is the most horrible fight in the game and no armor set is safe. Is it possible to modify an armor set with high piercing damage reduction? That quest is riddiculus.
The Redanian guardsman in the river crossing gives you a contract to check what's stealing thier stuff. You find out it's the Scoia'tel. In the same area you can help out a troll who gives an Elf head. It would be real neat if I could show the guard the elf head and convince him the squirrels are dealt with and collect the reward while Venosiel and her men are safe.

Can't wait for the remaster.

[ EDIT 1 ]

I don't want the game to become a Souls like for I suck at those but I think the wrong type of dodging needs to be punished so players don't always use the roll dodge. Maybe recovering from a roll dodge should consume more stamina or more time for Witcher to get on his feet.

I think it is better for the Witcher games to adopt more action adventure direction and have fewer/lighter RPG elements . The looting system I proposed goes toward that direction IMO. If quests are to be tackled in any order, enemy level should not be a hinderance toward handling quests in any order players chose as is the case in Witcher 3,. Levelling up and skills should be just about different ways Witcher can eliminate enemies and not about which enemies can or cannot be dealt with at the current level.

In Witcher 4, we better have a safehouse in Count Beladal's house.

Idea For A New Type Of Witcher Game:

I'd like a Witcher game that is about a linear journey along multiple progress paths and survival elements because I think a lore accurate Wither game is best experienced in this way.
In books, in many of the stories, Geralt take contracts because he's out of money. He doesn't get to chose whether to accept a contract or not for he has to eat. In Witcher 3 I never touch the Nithing contract for the moral dilemma is too much for me to handle. But imagine if I had no choice.
Imagine a scenario where Geralt has to travel from somewhere south to a distant location northward.
He can take multiple routes but he has limited time. He has to chose a path and stick to it. As he moves along, he has to take sustenance and afford lodgings forcing him to take on Witcher work. But in between hub areas he has to not just hunt monsters but set traps and hunt animals for food, acquire herbs and alchemy items for contracts and this is how the Witcher moves along until the next hub which can offer further restocking opportunities and routes to continue. Witcher can chose to take any direction in a fork in the road but there should be time constraint limiting backtracking and fast travelling. After the story is ended, the fast travel points open up to allow Witcher to take the other paths and play through what is on offer in those areas but until main story ends, there should be no fast travel.
Resources should be scarce so you have to manage using your potions and you're likely to not spam potions and use them for fights that really need preparation.
It should be a game where resources don't come by easy and you never become a rich man like Geralt.
I think such a game is really appropriate for an Authentic experience of a Witcher's life on the path.

If we are to get a Witcher game with Vesemir or some other Witcher, such a format makes for a neat Witcher experience.

I'd like CD Projekt Red to "steal" one thing that appears in Red Dead Online and that's letting the horse pick the herbs.

Well said those are very valid requests in my opinion.
It would also be great if they fixed/retextured the starting Witcher swords so they match their inventory icons like they were supposed to since they were present in trailers and artwork

First there is no such a thing as too much fan service. The entire reason for a game to exist is to please fans. The main reason these features are being added is because those are very popular mods that PC gamers use a lot but console players couldn't. By putting these into the Remaster it gives the option for console users to use these mods. For instance they did the same thing with the Complete Edition and auto-oiling of your swords because that was a top mod. Now another top mod is worked into the game and that is the "Weight" mod which removes the weight limit of what you can carry so you don't have to constantly run to an armorer or blacksmith to sell off stuff which breaks immersion. Since these are OPTIONAL they shouldn't bother anyone one bit.
