My thoughts on the difficulty

I was watching the dark mode trailer, and i saw the "you still think the witcher 2 is easy?" i dont see how the witcher 2 is easy.
I played Witcher 1 many times and i never had trouble, thought the W1 was easy, even during the last chapters.
But i always had trouble with the witcher 2 even on normal/hard. Dying in after a few hits, and no real "group style" against multiple ennemies.
So im curious why people actually find this game easy. I find the fights a lot more challenging than the first one.

I think the fights depend alot on what kind of build you are doing and how you approach each combat situation. I've died like 12 times to a group fight which I rushed into, but if I prepared for each fight they went alot smoother.
I think a good exemple how a fight can turn out differently is the one in the asylum in act 1 where you are ambushed by two wraiths after acessing a chest. The first few times a died horribly but the fourth time I prepared and trapped that place up and lo I won the fight.

What I am trying to say is that you should always prepare for each fight and never rush into combat, that way the fights become alot easier.

It all depends on who is playing. At first I found even Normal mode too difficult....and it was 10x more difficult in v1.0 of the game. Then after a few playthroughs I tried Dark mode for the first time. I was brutally beaten even by the merest foes until I well devised some strategies and prepared before battle now I find 'dark' mode to be standard and anything below feels too easy. I even managed to complete the game on Insane, which in itself is easier than Dark but if you die you cannot reload. So basically it depends on your playstyle.

TW1 is much easier than TW2, but it's possible to get acclimatized to TW2. Like the other posters, I also found it hard at first and then too easy later on. If you use potions, oils and occasional traps the effects add up, especially if you promote your character the right way. Remember that you can promote each talent in the tree twice, and it's the second promo that is really worth it, especially in the alchemy tree.

TW2 has exploits, so it can be made easy in many instances. But in general, it's a difficult game and takes some thinking to get through battles.

Early parts of game are indeed difficult on hard or dark difficulty settings, but after you buy few crucial skills game suddenly becomes easy, as long as you are cautious.

Exactly what Aver said, the beginning of the game is a lot harder. Later, when you get more skills, do more damage, and get certain bonuses to armor it is 'way' easier. But only: "As long as you are cautious." Thinking to cruise casually through on Dark difficulty, while showing off, and you will die horribly and fairly quick in La Valette castle. Personally my worst boss fights were with fighting Letho the first time and the Operator. Those weren't even fun after a while, but I beat them eventually. /> Those victories were sweeet I tell you. />

Wasn't the dark mode slogan aimed at people who played or heard of Dark Souls? Since there was hype about that game being very difficult? Or was that later?

Main problem for me with the witcher 2 was also the new camera, i always played witcher 1 with high iso. Which make it difficult at first, and the fact that you cant drink potions before some boss battle made my first playthrough annoying.

TW2 has so much stuff (traps, bombs, signs, daggers) that it is possible never to fight up close. Dark Mode is comparatively hard only during the Prologue. I don't know. I am far from being an advanced or hardcore gamer (it took me about 80 hours to beat Dark Souls the first time, other people I know did it under 40 hours), but everything, in every game, is just a matter of learning and developing a strategy.

FOV mod. Works like a charm.

Is that the same mod for the witcher 1 to make the game more challenging? Looks like it

Whoops. I grabbed the wrong link. On that site is a mod that allows you to adjust FOV. You can pan the camera up almost to the same isometric view TW1 had. It's a fantastic mod.

I knew you weren´t hardcore enough. A real MLG witcher pro would´ve figured that out before he/she even started playing. Goddamn casuals, unsubscribing.

It does not affect controls, only the camera. So combat is still the same. But if you increase the FOV, you can get a better view of you enemies in battle. I highly recommend it.

With the camera angle, a lot of it is just that it takes time to get adjusted. I played TW1 (and other games) on high ISO, and I was a few hours before I could handle TW2. Now, if I go back to TW1, I find myself playing on OTS, because ISO feels completely wrong.

My first time was hard, but after you learn the roll and parry mechanics its really easy.
