It seems very intriguing.. I love swords and the only realistic game with them was the old and wonderful Bushido Blade, from Squaresoft. Do you know it? Soul Calibur is fun, but in my own opinion, even ridicolous: it is ridicolous that being stabbed from the giant Siegfried two-handed sword does few damages than a kick.. Instead, Bushido Blade was a game of 1996-1997, where there aren't energy bar, no time limit, enormous stages inside and outside a japanese castle.. and one single hit, if aimed well could kill or break an arm or a leg of the opponent, with consequences in his skills.. It was possible to use walls and other obstacles to cover you, and even to cut bamboo, dirty you with blood or mud and leaving footprints in sand or snow :)

Awesome video is awesome.

Sounds a lot of fun, and I hope they get enough donation to make this project. When was this started exactly? 'Cause if they managed to reach $85,000+ in just a day, I'm pretty sure they'll get enough to make the game.

I love Bushido Blade. If this ends up being anything like a Bushido Blade with more combat possibilities, then I'll buy the hell out of this game.

There's been much discussion on swordplay, realism and game mechanics on these forums so I thought some might find this article from Rock, Paper, Shotgun (one of the better gaming sites btw) interesting:

Neal Stephenson's making a game

Looks promising, not keen on the Wii motion control thing though. I've tried games on the Wii but I always end up feeling self conscious and that I'm making an ass of myself. Much prefer to play games sitting down, with snacks and beverages in easy reach.

They are trying to show how professional and motivated they are. but they just started the project. That game is all about fighting like he said. If it ever comes out on Wii,PS3 or Kinect it will be like Fruit Ninja.. thats how I see it.
I think we learned enough and shouldn't get exited so easily. lets wait and see what future brings so far they promise heaven but It my end up being canceled year from now when they gather million $ again.

I'm not entirely sure about the project myself. I hope it recieves it's funding. There will be a mouse and keyboard interface also for the people who don't feel like spending $100 or whatever and buying Razer Hydra controllers and Neal is a big fan of them.

What's even more awesome Newell actually does some blacksmithing as a hobby.

""I have a forge and a CNC mill in my garage," he said. "The anvil in the shoot is mine, and is made by Nimba Anvils here in Washington state. The hammer I was using was made by a friend of mine in Arizona, Tai Goo."

The Kickstarter was successful!
Can't wait to see what they're able to do! I'm still very sceptical of the concept, but even if it's bad and all it does is create a little awareness for how much more swordfighting can be in videogames (hopefully resulting in more realistic and diverse combat in future games), I'm happy.
