I just realized I have like one stupid ass fistfight quest left. Can someone please explain HTF you counterattack? I spam the shit out of the stupid button, I have never had ONE single successful counterattack. EVER. I know HOLDING it doesn't work. You have to "time" it right. I assume when the moron winds up to punch.

@Matth3w110607 - the mistake you're making is thinking that you're approaching the end of the game. This is officially the mid-way point, although it is true that most content is in the first half.

They really do build it up like that's going to be the end. I thought so too. Then it felt like it was 1/3 of the way by the end. The only other game that made me keep thinking "this has got to be almost the end" like W3 was The Last of Us.

edit: I meant that in a good way lol, not that I wanted them to be over

actually you want to counterattack when he starts throwing the punch. It takes awhile to get the timing right. You're basically trying to knock his attack back, so you can't do that until he actually punches.

have you tried looking on the website gamepressure.com? They list all of the side quests in the game, plus a lot more. I found a lot of side quests listed there that I had never known existed. You may find a couple you haven't done yet.

Thanks for the tip...I only have one guy left to fight...what seemed to work for me was jump back so his punch lands short then counterattack with one heavy hit, then block and repeat. I'm simply not good at fist fighting. I've been beating ?? dragons and shit but can't fist fight some asshole scrub in a shanty town...go figure.

I understood. The LOU and Uncharted are my favorite games ever Played them on PS3, bought remastered on the 4, and preordered my drake collection on the 4

The fast punches are harder to counter than the slow attacks.

A good strategy is to back off and wait for them to walk towards you. Usually they will strong attack when you are further away. Just as the punch is about to hit, hold block and you will counter. Then you have ebough time to usually land one strong and one fast attack. Rinse and repeat.

I am near the end of the game, just finished the final preparations in Novigrad and am now about to leave for Skellige. I am lvl 32 but i'd like to get two more levels to enter the end fight with the master crafted gear. All remaining quests are greyed out. Is there a way to grind the two more levels 32-34 in Novigrad/Velen?

All I can suggest is trying to find a couple of side quests or witcher contracts that you may have missed. Also you may get closer to level 34 after doing battle preparations main quest. Then see how far you are away from level 34. There are a lot of side quests and witcher contracts in Velen and Novigrad that are not obvious to find. Without a contract or two it will be hard to make up the points by just killing random monsters.

There's more quests in Skellige when you get there. You're still not at the end yet....
You'll get at least one level out of the Skellige main questline before going into the final battle. One of the larger quests there also has a lot of opportunity for exploration in a place you haven't been yet, The "monsters" there are a similar level to you, so that should also be worth something. If you're absolutely sure you've done all the sidequests, I'd go through those before grinding.
