It should be noted that the Pandemonium Urbanwear over at Datafortress 2020 lists a Chainmail Hakama, which I presume is one of Wisdom000's creations. Correct me if I'm wrong here Wisdom. If you did write that up, what did you use as the starting point, and how did you go about "creating" that outfit?

I use a highly scientific, precise, and exacting formula to determine the costs of all the clothes on my site...

hmmm, i found a cool looking screen shot (from Equlibrium in this case), I looked at it for a bit and wondered how much something like that would cost.... then I made some shit up that sounded like something people would pay for that shit.... then I ate some nachos while Iuploading the file on my site.

And i wanna play in your game now, I wanna play a Guamanian Krav Maga master named Killfuck Soulshitter....

Kuraiyama Kenichi Kageto was born the first son to the heir of the Kuraiyama family, an ancient Shinobi clan of the Samurai class from Iga Province dating back over 500 years to their founder, Kuraiyama Kenji Kageto, from whom Kenichi takes his common name. , and still maintain their hidden estate, Dojo, and training grounds below the southern slopes of Mt Kasatori between the modern cities of Iga and Nabari on the Aoyama Plateau. Since childhood, he has been raised and trained by private tutors until he began high school (at one of the region's most prestigious schools) to succeed his grandfather as head of the clan following the murder of his parents by the Onikage-gumi Yakuza. He has a younger brother and sister. Extremely talented in the Shinobi arts, Kageto had already attained the rank of Jonin by the age of 18. After graduation from High school, he was sent by his grandfather, along with his mentor and a bodyguard, to the Middle East war zone on a trade negotiation with José Carlos Mirandez—head of Buccaneer Enterprises (an international weapons and technology consortium), who was in currently in the region at the time. The mission would see them betrayed by their bodyguard, his mentor's torture and death at the hands of the enemy "Caliphate" forces , his being stranded behind enemy lines for nearly a year along with a ragtag group of survivors—consisting of Mirandez, the man's daughter, Maria, and Marc Helrich (a big Australian gun-runner who would soon become his best friend, and surrogate "older brother"), and several escaped "POWs" lead by a Delta Force Command Sergeant Major—and the loss of his arms to his mentor's murderer before finally escaping the war zone and being taken to the US. It is in the US, at age 19, with new cybernetic arms (made by Maria), that he would meet someone who would become the most important person in his life from that point forward—Tommie Jean Davis, a young, innocent Alabama "tomboy" who has taken it upon herself to "break him out of his shell"— as well as become embroiled in an Onikage plot which could have far reaching consequences for him, his friends, his clan, and the world.

Personality and motivations: The events in Kageto's life has resulted in an individual of sullen, quiet, and introverted temperment who does not make friends easily. However, when he does, they become family whom he would lay down his life for. Stubborn, grumpy, and more than a bit "pig-headed", he also has a very strong sense of tradition, honor, and duty, and will stop at nothing to keep his word, fulfill his objectives, and live up to his code. His passion for tradition also affects his sense of style. He is most comfortable in traditional Japanese clothing, and his back is covered in a traditionally done Irezumi tattoo which extends from the tops of his shoulders to his waist. His most prized possession is his Daisho—a matched katana and wakizashi, forged together by a master swordsmith more than 500 years ago, and first wielded by the founder of his family.

Very nice character. Good background. However, since he is using Ninjutsu shouldn't he be a ninja rather than a Samurai?

For the most part, Most of your traditional Shinobi (the proper term for "ninja", were Samurai. They were of the Samurai class, though often, lower class Samurai. They were part of the Warrior class, not peasants. This is particularly true of the ones from Koga and Iga.

For those of you who may be interested, this is how I came up with his attire with final stats and costs, all of which were created using the clothing construction rules from Chromebook 4:

The kimono started out using the 25 EB Tunic base made from light weight silk. I decided that this would be "business wear" style, suitable for any formal, semi-formal, or business situation (x3 to cost). I then decided that this would be "Superchic" quality(x7), to make it more "personal" as it typical for traditional kimonos, given the heraldry typically worn on the kimono and kataginu (or Haori), usually one to five Mon, Five being the most Formal (one on the back, one on each pectoral, and one on each sleeve). I also decided that this would be made from Spider Silk, to give it some armor protection (SP 10) (x 1.5).

For the Hakama with Obi, I started with the 20 EB pants base, (these are the divided leg ("Unamori" style Hakama pants as opposed to the undivided "andon bakama style, which would need to be made using the "Long Skirt" base). Once again, I went with the "Business Wear" style (x3) and "Superchic" quality (x7), and Spidersilk construction for some SP 14 armor protection (x1.75)

For the Kataginu, I started with the 25 EB Vest base. Again, I went with Business Wear for Style (x3) and Superchic for quality (x7), with SP14 armor protection (x1.75)

The result:

Takanaka Mens Kataginu Kamishima set:
For the "traditional" Japanese executive and well dressed street "Samurai" on the town, Takanaka has come out with the finest in formal and semiformal traditional men's Kataginu Kamishima. Based upon the classic Samurai fashion from the Edo period, These suits combined a fine, light weight men's kimono made from the finest Spider Silk (SP10) in your choice of colors and patterns chosen to suit the occasion, with your personal or family Mon applied (your choice, one to five depending upon formality) in the traditional places; a pair of medium weight Spider Silk (SP 14) Unamori Hakama with matching obi; and a matching Spider silk (SP 14) Kataginu to complete the set, also personalized with up to three Mon. The outfit is completed with the finest tabi socks and Zori sandals woven from real, natural straw fibers with the finest silk lining and real leather Hanao.
ItemCost
Takanaka Spider Silk Men's Kimono (SP 10)787.5 EB
Takanaka Spider Silk Unamori Hakama with Obi (SP 14)735 EB
Takananaka Spider Silk Kataginu (SP 14)918.75 EB
Takanaka Silk Tabi Socks10 EB
Takanaka Men's formal Zori Sandals315 EB

For his "combat gear" I also started with the basics from Chromebook 4. His combat outfit starts with the Gibson Battlegear SP 10 sleeveless jumpsuit straight out of the book. I then made his hooded kataginu from a combination of the 25 EB Vest base and 10 EB "tobaggan" hood. I decided that this would be "Urban Flash" style (x3) and Designer Quality (x4) and made from Spider Silk (SP 14 torso and head) (1.75). I then made a pair of Jika Tabi (tabi boots), using the 25 boots base. I decided that these too would be Urban Flash style (x2) and Designer quality (x4). Next is his Hachimaki (head scarf). This started with the 15 EB scarf/bandanna base. Once again, I went with Urban Flash style (x2) and Designer quality (x4) as well as light weight Spider Silk (SP 12) construction (x1.75). Next is his utility belt. This begins with the 10 EB belt base, Edgerunner style (x3), and Designer (x4). Finally there's his utility harness (to mount the katana and quiver). For this I had to start with the 50 EB Army Field pack from Home of the Brave, and divide the cost in half (25 EB ) since I just need the harness, not the full pack. Once again, Edgerunner style (x3) and Designer quality (4).

ItemCost
Gibson Battlegear sleeveless Bodysuit (SP 10 Torso/Legs))250
Eji of Japan Hooded Kataginu (SP 14)490
Eji of Japan Jika Tabi200
Eji of Japan Hachimaki (SP 12)180
Gibson Battlegear Utility Belt120
Gibson Battlegear Utility Harness300

Although from the Samurai case, I always thought that the Ninja arts and weapons were treated as dishonorable, at least in public. On the other hand a kind of "black ops Samurai" is perfect for any Cyberpunk campaign, not just an Asian-themed campaign.

The key phrase there being, "at least in public". The people of Iga and Koga in particular, however, weren't your "typical" Samurai to begin with, if you read the history.

The one thing I do still need to work out is where the Kuraiyama clan gets its wealth (they're not exactly poor). I have considered setting them up as a Zaibatsu, but how to do that without making them "Arasaka knock-offs" is a trick. So what kind of Zaibatu would a Shinobi noble family be running is a big question.

Well, they would probably be diversified a fair bit. Gives them access to different revenue streams and cover identities. If they are a publically-held corporation, that's an issue, with boards, shares, transparency to shareholders, etc.

Probably a privately-held corporation, then, or a holding company with interests in a variety of other corps.

Medical equipment, (needed everwhere, conceals tools that kill and heal), automotive manufacturing, (everyone drives - also lets them keep an eye on anyone buying their GPS-equipped product) and the IT sector. Saaaaay..router/network hardware design and production. For obvious reasons.

^ Sounds about right. Zaibatsu are pretty diversified as a matter of form. You could probably throw in some kind of import / export company, or global delivery company, as a plausible alibi to travelling all over.

I was actually avoiding suggesting those, are they aren't subtle. Maybe....some kind of Travel E-Mag company? Or Warranty Inspection Business?

I was actually thinking something directly related, not as a "cover". Historically, Shinobi were essentially the "special forces" of Feudal Japan—the commandos. They were not criminals. They're not Yakuza. The Yakuza are their enemies.

I agree. Originally I was thinking a "covert" security firm, but that's a little too much like Arasaka, even though Arasaka does not exist in my comic. Of course, Kageto's grandfather is not a megalomaniac who wants to bring Japan back to its pre WWII "imperial glory" and take over the world (I'm looking at you Arasaka Saburo). I was thinking something a little more along the lines of Lazarus, but more covert.

Yeah, although real subtlety lies in going non-military. Preferably a business that can go everywhere the military does, including with cyberware, and raises no eyebrows. E.G. Medical.

I liked Warranty Inspection - or Insurers - because then they have a plausible reason to be bringing or going to places with serious weapons and danger.

Well, if you look at history, Tokugawa Ieyasu used Iga Shnobi as covert bodyguards hen he was Shogun of Japan. And previously, they had been used as mercenaries for hire by pretty much all of the Daimyo, though Oda Nobunaga did try to wipe out the men of Iga.

You can also leave it vague, and as the campaign progresses you could come with the inspiration to develop the Zaibatsu.
