Need tips for fight vs Dethmold and Adam's mercenaries.

I feel that the combat is uneven and some battles are harder than it's supposed to be. Anyway, I'm at the final quest of Act 2 and I'm in the tunnels below Vergen facing Dethmold and Adam & Co. I can handle Adam & his men, but I need some advice on what I can do to protect myself from Dethmold's spells because that's how my health drops to zero. I've potioned up, using hanged man's venom and quen as often as I can but I can't last the entire fight to finally face Dethmold alone - he invariably zaps me to death by the time I kill the last mercenary.

Try to make good use of the pillar in the middle of the room, roll around a lot and also try to use the mercenaries as meat shields (Dethmold's spells can hit them, though I'm not sure if they take damage from those).

This is another difficult battle, definitely.
