Neverwinter MMORPG

Did anyone try this MMORPG? I just discovered it accidentally.

It looks to be very recent. If you tried it, do you think it has a good community of roleplayers?

After the enormous disappointment that was D&D Eberron Online, I didn't have much interest. I read a few reviews on the escapist and it sounded a bit too much like Ebberon Online for my liking. The world is divided into level zones. You advance thorugh each seperate zone as you level, though you can revist lower leveled ones. Since most role players tend to advnace in level at a slower pace, haha, the population could be broken up too much. In WOW and GW2, for instance, the huge populatoins of people are centered around areas with activity for all levels. But that's just a guess of course ;)

If GW2 under wine ever improved you really should give its role playing community a try. Its brilliant :)

About GW2: The last time I tired, the performance was horrible. I found this site http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com and joined Tarnished Coast as others there suggested. But the playability was way too bad. Not sure if that was my configuration or something else. I might give it another try sometime later.

I definatly can't play GW2 at the 4-6 FPS I'm getting in wine. It sits alongside TW2, Batman and DS on the nessessary evil that is the Windows partion. And Tarnished Coast is definatly the way to go. My only "complaint" was it was largely human centric, though it was improving.

But despite what I've heard that's reminded me of the last D&D MMO, I'll certainly at least try it out. That adventure creature like in the previous NWN's games looks really cool. Now you can do a guild or group quest and use a little less imagination, so to speak haha :D And looks, much, much better tha before.

Neverwinter is fun if you play through it with a friend while talking on Skype or something.

The environment is pretty cool, but damn is it boring to solo through it.
Not to mention, the RP community is full of wannabe Drizzt Do'Urden's, but that was in beta. Don't know if that changed now.

Though I do admit, the Foundry thing is perfect if you want to make your own custom styled roleplaying campaign, I didn't get the chance to fully explore this feature though.

All in all, give it a try if you can rile up some friends, otherwise, let is pass.

I play casually and, honestly, I enjoy it. It is much better that DDO. I haven't come across any roleplayers in game yet, but I know they're out there somewhere... you might check here.

One of the best parts of the game is the Foundry, that allows user made campaigns and quests. Some of the top rated (and hence easy to find) quests are better than the ones made by Cryptic. It's a powerful tool that will only get better as more people figure it out.

In short, it's free, you might as well download it and give it a try.

At first I was interested, then I noticed that Cryptic made the game. No, thanks.

I playded for about 2 weeks with my little bro but i uninstalled the game straight away as soon as i met the below situations:

1) Dungeon finder
2) Market selling/buying weapons
3) spamms for gold on the main chats
4) questing and questing and questing
5) Item looting and argues when dungeoning

In other words, this is just another World of Warcraft. However, it is a nice alternative if you wish to roll-out from WoW.

A pity. I thought D&D legacy had to encourage roleplaying, instead of WoW cloning.

I don't like MMOs, but it looked somewhat interesting so I checked out the video. Then got a bit repulsed by all the flashy lighting and characters swooshing around. Reminded me too much about DA2 for my liking.

MMORPGs are the natural computer alternative for tabletop roleplaying. They are preceded only by MUDs. The problem is that many of them have almost no roleplayers, or they are filled with Mary Sues, or those who act OOC and don't make any effort to fit into the settings.

Except World of Warcraft never defined or was defined by any of these things except maybe the Dungeon Finder ( though it was only added in the second expansion in a patch ), instead they all existed long before WoW in many other MMOs.

For points 1 and 4, these systems, along with many other WoW used/uses all the way down to the gameplay they existed long before WoW was introduced. What WoW did was improve on them. They made a better Auction House system, a better questing system, a better combat system and so on and Blizzard spent a lot of time and money on continuously improving the gameplay of the game. What made WOW what is it was the polish that Blizzard did to gameplay systems that already existed. That's why there's no true WOW clone out there, because no other MMO has ever come to the level of polish that WOW did, none.

For points 3 and 5. Spam Bots and that kind of behavior is common in most if not all multiplayer games, especially MMOs.

As for the Dungeon Finder. Even if Blizzard invented it, I hardly see it as a bad thing for another MMO to have it because while it is really annoying to have to spend half an hour or more shouting in general in either your capital city or the dungeon you are interested in clearing out. The removal of having to travel to the dungeon yourself get's a so-so verdict from me. Sure it's a nice idea in theory to have to travel there yourself every time, but in practice you always get into the situation where you have a dickhead in your party who will need to be summoned, and then when he leaves you will have to go out to summon a replacement.
