New Assassin's Creed game confirmed for 2014

Check this out.
New game with new character and setting. To be revealed at E3 this year.

2014 is going to be a very good year now. Already TW3 is going to make it the best, this is just more desserts

According to some sources (rumours to be exact), it will take place in South America. Possibly a connection with the Mayan civilization, considering AC's involvement around the end of the world.

But we'll see. A tad bit skeptical about the next installment. Though admittedly, I've been so on basically every next installment in the franchise.

At first I thought you were just trolling, but then I remembered it's just me that's... ever so slightly biased against the AC series since ACB. Just not my series, I suppose, which is a pity as I always felt it could have been one of my favourite series... had they had more interesting platforming, stealth and player choice focussed combat instead of mass murder QTE's, and any ambition to actually create a great new game every time instead of iterate on the same formula again and again and basically going for mass appeal.

/end needless rant

Glad you're excited for it, though, and hope it lives up to your expectations (as in, honestly, no sarcasm : )

haha cool mate. Well in terms of open world and character control, they are the benchmark for that and beat the crap out of most games out there with a decent story. Although I agree, ACB has been the best of them so far, yet the excitement for one is always there :)

I hope the focus will shift back to stealth because the Assassins Creed series is becoming more and more a pure action game

Please let them take their time and stop with the stupid 1 year cycle. Assassin's Creed 3 was great, except for an anti-climactic rushed endgame.

I am sad that it won't be about Connor, I quite like him and think there's still something to tell about him. That said, he might return if the next AC is set during the French Revolution, which is a must and I'd be surprised if Ubisoft doesn't take advantage of the awesomeness of that time period. Plus, freaking Paris!

The ideal AC game for me would be playing a female assassin (yes I am tired of playing only males), with Connor as an allied NPC. Connor experienced a Revolution and saw that being optimistic about them is foolish. He can provide a more grounded and realist perspective on the French revolution, to an assassin who would be optimistic about it.
It would be perfect character growth for Connor that AC3 set in palce very well, and a continued brilliance on the part of Ubisoft to actually have something resembling nuance when portraying history.

...no, I think I may have worded that poorly. I am one of those odd fellas who were actually disappointed with ACB because I was expecting a completely new AC. I've had a bit of a history with the franchise; AC2 actually was the game I decided to buy a gaming PC for (which left me without any money to buy any other games at the time). I played that game 3? 4? times, so ACB felt already too familiar to me when I played it. As I said, the major reason I've been disappointed with the franchise is the lack of interesting and daring innovation.

Even so, navigating those gorgeous Italian cities was amazing, so I suppose I do agree with you on the whole open world thing.

But the Maya civilization is not South American. It is Meso-American, i.e. southern North America and Northern Central America, including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador. In South America a very widely known indigenous civilization would be the Incas.

Interesting. Though I'm not interested.

AssCreed 3 was the last straw. Shit game design, poorly told story, idiotic ending. I'm so happy I didn't buy the damn game. Some good things, I really liked the culture, seeing the indians and hearing them talk. That was amazing. Animations were awesome. Using the tomahawk was orgasmic. It was so satisfying to be running and execute a moving takedown, seamlessly killing a guy and continuing to run. Just great stuff. Connor was pretty cool though could have been stronger. Again, writing was weak as hell.

So yeah. It's a little depressing that AssCreed is so popular despite being so bland. Or perhaps that's exactly why it does so well - its gameplay mechanics are just a hodge podge of different ideas thrown in a bucket to appeal to as many people as possible. People like sandboxes, make it a sandbox. People like parkour, implement parkour. People like action but there's also a minority that likes stealth, give players the option to do both.

Instead of concentrating and doing one aspect really well, it all just bleeds together to contradict the gameplay, and the level design is attrocious, working AGAINST the combat, rather than supporting it. There's no flow in free running and transitioning from running away from enemies to parkour is a joke.

To quote Letho of Gulet: There's no accounting for taste. But I don't get how people can so blindly throw money at AssCreed. The first one was intriguing and had an atmosphere unmatched by most current AAA games. That one had shit game design as well, but at least it had a charm to it, a soul. I get the feeling like the developers care. Now AssCreed is a yearly money making machine. Fuck innovation, quality or passion, gotta make that profit!

Fuck it, I'm just gonna leave this here. This vid sums it all up.

I am probably known around these parts as someone who cares primarily about story. And it is primarily in this capacity that I love the Assassin's Creed franchise, which had been getting consistently better after the hick up of AC2 and Brotherhood.

But to be quite honest, I am not encouraged to explain myself to someone who keeps referring to one of my favorite series as "AssCreed".

Wake me up when they make AC game in ww2 setting. Assassinating SS officers in concentration camps would be awesome.

I kinda agree with Foggy, :p/> in terms of the first game having charm and making sense. The Italian Assassin literation was good also(up to Brotherhood), but for my taste they went totally nuts with all the "conspiracy" bullshit that works as a "story frame". That REALLY put me off... And I think it should ve been scrapped,as there's absolutely no need for it.
You dont need the EXACT SAME TWO factions battling eachother all over world's HISTORY. Thats a little dumb...

I would ve greatly appreciated a chapter during the French Revolution, but I think now they will crap all over the story again. Im also done... Its a shame, cause for me it had great potential, but went TOO CRAZYPANS.

I'm a huge fan of assassins creed, but maybe they should wait one or two year before another game to get us hyped more. For example, a meal has a better taste when we ain't eating it everyday.

Want to be excited but i'm not, i guess AC 3 was good and all but it wasn't my kind of game neither was Revelations so i had hoped they'll atleast take 2 years to ship another AC game but NO, still not going to count it out completely but The Witcher 3 overshadows any excitement i had for the new AC game in 2014.

From the very beginning, AC was about Assassins vs Templars. Of course they should be the center of attention. AC2 and Brotherhood suffered because the Templars were shit.

And complaining about conspiracy is barking at the wrong tree. AC was all about conspiracy jacked up to the eleven since AC1. That's its genre.

Thats not a fucking genre... :p/> youre wayyyy up on crack, my friend, :p/>

THAT is just poor story-telling. You like it, FINE. Some didn´t. For me Assassins Creed was like being Batman in the Middle Ages, with cool History cameos... All the other stuff about Assassins being the poster boys for FREEDOM and Templars the GREEDY baddies was sooooo TACKY... Its OK if anyone disagrees. :p/>

It is a genre. It's called conspiracy fiction. You may not like it, but it doesn't have to be poor writing. Orwel's 1984 can be argued to be a conspiracy fiction and it's amazing.

The Tempalrs are not baddies. AC2 and Bortherhood made it that way and that's why they are my least favorites. But AC1, Revelations and AC3 had excellent Templars that are very sympathetic.

Templars are all about the philosophy of determinism (social or natural), and what that could entail (pessimism in their case). The Assassins are all about non-determinism. It's pretty philosophically deep as far as video games are concerned.

What? AC1 was one of the worst games I ever finished. AC2 - it was very pleasant supprise, saved the series. ACB was even better. I just started ACR, and it looks OK, but I only finished 1st sequence so far (I'm just trying out AC series).
But I agree that conspiracy stuff in ACB is just stupid, not so much the main storyline, but the wild allegations present in the "truth" puzzles. In cringing, rolling-my-eyes, is-it-being-created-by-a-kid way of stupid.

I am not going to argue about overall games, but no one in his sane mind can say that the borgias in AC2 and B are even remotely as interesting as the Templars in AC1.

And yes I will agree that the conspiracy in Brotherhood is poor, as in poorly written and presented.

As a fan of the AC series, I loved the most of the story, graphics, music and so on. But one thing I hated from the very beginning was "the first civilisation" idea. *Spoiler* The apple of eden were a part of their technology, the humans were created by them only to serve as slaves, and lived in the Garden of Eden, which looked like a high tech sci-fi facility. And the worst thing was AC3, when the team travelled to one of the first civilisation temples. This temple (which was mentioned by Minerva in AC2) could've been something like the Inca temples, the pyramids of Giza or the ancient babylon tower, but instead they choosed to make it super high tech too. It would've been much more interesting if the hole thing was another mystery from the bible and God, which I thought at first. :p/>

And I wont even mention the story concerning Lucy...
