New blog post: Geralt gets a haircut

Back when we had originally announced Geralts new haircut, it stirred a lot of controversy among our community. If you want to know more about the process of redesigning Geralt in order to prepare him for The Witcher 2, head over to our official blog to read the full article.

Did any of you guys dislike how the barbers were also vendors? like the librarian dwarf and the sorceress in training. I think they were doing it so people wouldn't have a hard time finding the guy but it broke the immersion just a little bit for me. They should've just made a random citizen the barber.

If he'd had the ponytail in the first game, too, I'd have been fine with it, but I've played TW1 a LOT, and to me, he just didn't look like Geralt with different hair. I was surprised to find myself so shallow :p, but it turned out to matter more to me than I thought it would.

So, thanks, CDPR. You make good on promises -- we won't forget that!

It seems to me that the image's Geralt model looks better and slightly more detailed than the one in TW2... could it come from TW3?

I guess it's just my imagination.

What I liked about the loose hair in the first Witcher game was that we find out it's called elven style, considering where he arrives from at the beginning of the game, it makes sense that he'd not have his usual ponytail. By the way, am I the only one who thinks Geralt would look good with a cossack haircut, is it called a chochol in polish?

Yes, "chochoł" with the "dark l". He'd need a mustache like Vesemir's to go with it. You have to be young to get away with it clean-shaven.

"Never make fun of a Cossack's haircut. I mean NEVER."

Same here :) Geralt just looks too different in the Witcher 2.

CDPR forgot to add the dwarven style and beards options for Geralt :)

Yeah, I wonder how Geralt would look like with a little bit of beard.

I think a great addition to the Witcher 2 that would cost CDPR very little effort is the addition of even more barber options for Geralt. Picture:

New Hair Options:
Shaven
Tonsure
Bowl

New Beard Options
Mustache (guard recolor)
Goatee (guard recolor)
Full Beard (Henselt recolor)
2 Braids (Kimbolt recolor)
Soul Patch (Dandelion recolor)
Chin Tuft (Maravel recolor)

I really want to make a Breaking Bad style Geralt - no hair and goatee. Geralt can be played relatively sinister, and beards can be both evil and awesome.

I doubt it. This seems just like a custom-made image, instead of the one from one generated in-game. No hardware limitation = artists can go into as much details as they want to.

Please, let's not get carried away. Geralt is a white wolf, too much alteration to his appearance is character-breaking.

Now you just need glasses, and then a crystal wolf is complete.

Sidenote: Breaking Bad-like RPG game would be really interesting.

That's why they would be recolors - there is zero reason why Geralt could not have a white beard and a shaved head, or short white hair and white stubble, or any combination of those listed. They'd all match Geralt's current hair color, so I don't see an issue. I hope we get a fanmade mod for such options when the Redkit gets released.

Sorry, I assumed that recolor was referring to an option to change color of hair.

I think Geralt's hairstyle in Witcher 2 is better than it was in the first game. I also love what they did with his hair while wearing the Kinslayer armor.
