Dandy is marvelous in the books. He challenges Geralt, keeps him honest. He can go from comedic to sincere in a single paragraph. I wish CDPR would bring more of this into the games.

He's pretty cool in the games as well, the only thing I didn't like was his voice in the English version; the voice acting is great, but the voice was off for me.

Wow after reading that I do wish to see that side of his more too.

Doesn't he do that in TW1 to a degree at least?

When I think about it now, yes he does, and also bit if very less in TW2 too. But yeah for the most part he does play the fucking idiot (as Geralt puts it lol) in TW2.

We're going to give Second Children an aneurysm if we bring this up again.

@guipit Guys at Platige Image have a sense of humour ? I guess when you render frame by frame for weeks you just can't help but throw some stuff for people who would watch it frame by frame.

I don't think that expression is amusement or gratification. There's a technical term for that kind of smile, risus sardonicus, sardonic grin. If not caused by poisoning, it's an involuntary expression of extreme terror or pain. A literary example strongly to the point of the trailer is the "hyaena laughter" of the horrified cannibals on the boat in Byron's Don Juan.

"For they who were most ravenous in the act
Went raging mad. Lord! how they did blaspheme
And foam and roll, with strange convulsions racked,
Drinking salt water like a mountain stream,
Tearing and grinning, howling, screeching, swearing,
And with hyaena laughter died despairing."
[II, 79]

Those who aren't Byron fans may take the Joker as an example.

You can't tell for sure since we only saw part of the whole..

Dunno just because we see some teeth doesnt mean she is smiling. I put my money on; simple shock, confusion or hyperventilation.

seriously though... that picture creeped me out.

Anyway here's my take on the whole "killing monsters" trailer

It's easy to overlook this as a simple damsel in distress trope which is shallow for Geralt's standard,

but I saw the trailer as "getting your just desserts" for the Milfgardians.
They condemn this woman to death by torment because of looting, cannibalism, and murder.

Take a good long look around you,
do you really think she would've resorted to violence if the land wasn't scorched to a cinder?
When you force people to starvation... morals be damned and hungry people will behave like... well,... hungry people

Then it's blatantly clear these men are their own judge, jury, and executioner.... because it's fun,
"Bring her down, do it my way... get the hammer. " sealed their fate.

bottomline, she is just a peasant woman that has been forced to do things she wouldn't have done normally,
and those fools are the real monsters.

That expression actually looks similar to that manic slow mo face of the guy that runs at Geralt with a bat

Maybe the woman isn't a peasant at all...could she be a witch? That grin is a bit menacing.

She's akin with Gramps from Witcher 1 maybe? Now that was a character that could justify murder with a smile and a joke. ;)

But really, I know that I would smile had I been saved from the wrath of bullies, even more so from a certain death. Granted, I wouldn't have smiled that creepily mind you.

Considering your keen eyes have discovered a smile(!) would you please tell me something? So sorry if this has already been discussed, but Geralt fight so fast that I can't really see from where that knife is drawn from. Is it drawn from the belt of the Nilfgaardian? Or is it Geralt's? Would appreciate if anyone could tell me!

For me that image is too blurred and inaccurate to judge if that's a smile or any other emotion.

i doubt they intended for us to see that. maybe it was an expression the actor made when she thought the camera wasn't focused on her.

though, if we are to fantasize and imagine a "hidden narrative" with that women actually being a murderer, then it is a bit creepy. because she's happy that she's getting away with it.
