New Forum - Suggestions

Hi, all :) It's so nice to see the official forum up and running again. However, I find it a real eyesore. So here are some suggestions to make it a little more enjoyable to read.

  1. Could we please get a "Mark all as read" button? (no, clicking each sub-forum 'mark as read' individually still doesn't cut it)
  2. Smilies. That white outline around them - not nice.
  3. The profile button is not obvious enough. At first I thought it might be part of the logout-button. It's a little bit of confusion for newcomers that might easily be removed by adding a little 'profile'-text next to/underneath the Avatar in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. The reputation could be added to the user data next to the posts. As of now it can only be seen in the profiles.
  5. I'd like to see a 'topics you have participated in' category on the main page. It's really useful.
  6. Indicators in the top-right, when you receive new messages, wall-posts or direct replies to your posts.
  7. The edit-timestamp should be standard on.
  8. The friend requests should be set to "only if I approve" as standard.
  9. Even if you have just a line of text for your signature like I do, that area takes up a good 100-200 pixels of space. Cutting that down would go a long way in removing the "congested" feel of threads.
  10. Right now, users are allowed to upvote their own comments.
  11. Error messages popping up when receiving notifications from PL version to EN (not sure if the same happens the other way around). See post #69 for details: http://en.thewitcher...ns/page__st__60
  12. The software really should put a stop to all these double- and triple-postings. The forum should prevent these and give a message like "you cannot answer your own posting within an hour, please use the EDIT button".
What does everyone else think? Agree/disagree/have stuff to add?

You stole those first two points from me (except I thought it was yellow, and now see that it's orange). This is unacceptable.

I demand reparation for this injustice! Also, I totally agree.

EDIT: Wanted to add that there seem to be a lot of stickies. Wouldn't be a big deal, but it kind of makes it hard to get to the non-stickied topics since they're quite a ways down on the page.

My understanding is that even though it took forEVER for them to get the forum back up, it still isn't in its final form. So some stuff should improve over the next week or so.

That's basically what Marcin said over at the GOG forum. Still, some helpful advice to give them some direction for the tweaking never hurts, right? :)

Will the promised merging of our real profiles with the ones created to register the game ever happen? :p

A hug? :'D

Sure they're working on it, but colour scheme really needs to change asap. It's painful to look at and it's not like changing it would take an awful lot of time (they should've chosen nicer colours in the first place, but oh well).

Oh, I didn't mean that people should shut up! I just meant that people shouldn't assume that CDPR thought the forum was exactly right in its current form. :)

Heheh.

I'm lost.
Seriously feels like a lost kid here. Different and somewhat heavier than GoG forum. My bandwidth screams a minimum of 4 seconds every time I load a page.

Ugh. No complaint. Gotta have faith this time. They're gonna fix it. Make it lighter.

There should be a "reply" button when someone sends you a message. I mean, if you write on their wall the whole exchange seems disconnected, and writing on your own wall to reply doesn't seem to notify the other person. Just a suggestion (thanks for the idea of posting it here, blubeetle).

Yes, definitely! :) It would be very helpful to quickly see if there are new replies to threads that we've posted in. Also maybe a notification of some sort if we get a message from somebody.

Thanks for letting us know :) It's good that they are still working on improvements.

The little orange shield next to the topic name means there are new replies in a thread. Or do you mean something like reply indicator on GoG that tells you if someone replied directly to something you posted?

No prob, bruddah!

Sorry for the late, late reply. Still try to get around my head to the new home/dorm/whatever. You know I'm rather slow. And my dialup connections aren't helping either. Can't open too many tabs if I don't wanna get freezed up after 2-3 hours. Damn ISP.

I can see so many stale topics that have already been long discussed in GoG. Somewhat kills the joyride. So many things need to do in terms of tidying up the place. It'd be...hard to warm the bench while the process are being implemented. Walking on the side line, helping the newbies, getting used to the new management and forum culture...

No, not complaining. Just saying, is all. Me, being Mr. Obvious.

:bow low:

Aren't we all? I'm experiencing total culture shock after my 80 or so days at the GOG forum :)

Another suggestion for the forum: I really, really want to go to the last page when I click on a topic. It seems unintuitive to have to click the topic, then the most recent page just to get there.

Unless I'm missing a setting that allows you to do this, in which case... someone please enlighten me.

The situation somehow forks the instinctual urges to flock-up--you know, hanging with those we've already closed in our previous community. Hope you and Dona won't mind having me around rather closely for the moment.

Better yet: should we make our own hanging place then? A special thread or topic where GoG's Witcher 2 community could hang around, reorienting ourselves among the known comrades (for lack of a better words) before venturing further into the abyss of CDPR forum?

In short: ganging up?

Gah! I don't know. What do you think?

Isolating ourselves would be incredibly unhealthy. Just pretend you already know everyone :)

And if they bite, bite back harder. That's what makes me so good with kids. Besides, I'm sure plenty of us will still be around the GOG forums. I know I haven't harassed those people enough to be satisfied.

As for the forum suggestions, I'm just going to +1 the idea that we need some kind of notification for when someone replies to one of our posts. Dona is totally right about post tracking being really difficult to manage on this forum at the moment, and I think that small addition would go a long way.

EDIT: Even just displaying recent posts on the front page rather than most recently-created topics would go a long way to reducing the confusion.

Alright, I'm game. Wish I have a pair of fangs as sharp as yours to bite back with any impunity--when the needs arise.

Nevertheless, pardon me if I still think we need to regroup at least temporarily--in the Community Category. There are many similar threads already present there--Witcher 2 Community from Bulgaria, Russia, etc. In which case, perhaps it would be best to first announce the plan in our own turf--GoG, before going on further.

But it's up to you, though. I'm standing by in the mean time. My bandwidth is rather heavily occupied for works at the moment.

I won't be isolating myself from anyone. Sure, the forum is intimidating because it's been around since 2007 and we just arrived, but there's no reason to separate. Just be around and everything is going to be fine :] I want to meet more awesome people here : D

Here's another suggestion. QUOTES. You have to manually add a quote within a quote, which is a bit annoying sometimes.

Alright, I'll try. Thanks, Dona.
And...uh, you might want to edit the list up top and add the above new issue regarding QUOTES. Basically adding and piling up the ideas as to not to have them scattered about.

EDIT Addendum: Yeah, make it numbered sounds good, if you agree.

I applaud your ideas for changes guys. We really need some better tracking options, but I gues CDPR are working on them.

And if we want to hang out with our GOG family - hey, there's still the gorgeus GOG forum, ya know? :)

Yeah. I know. I'm opening another tab just to sit on my usual GoG watch tower. Rather quiet at the moment, though.
