"Thanks" and "Points" are a vBulletin feature (strictly, they're a mod to vBulletin that many sites adopt).
"Thanks" is what you're supposed to give instead of making a whole post just to say "Thank you".
REDPoints are a way of giving kudos for an especially fine contribution, like positive rep on the old forum (or orens on the really old one).
Both ways, the member you thank or give points to is informed of your action.

Oh, this is simply beautiful! I love the new look, and the functionalities seem to be a vast improvement. A post or two have been cut off, oddly enough, and my friends list is naturally gone, but overall, these problems seem minor. A fairly smooth transition, I'd say. Thank you.
Don't want to offend anyone from CDPR working hard on new forum, but for me this new skin is ugly. I though the previous version of it was the best looking one
