New player combat advice

Hi there,I am having trouble with the battle with Leo's spirit in the chapel crypt (outskirts of Vizima). It seems like Geralt won't attack. I know about timing his attacks, but I never get a flaming arrow. He'll dodge and parry but then just stand there and not attack. I've tried all the fighting styles and had the same result. Any tips?

Since Leo is in training to be a witcher, he's fast, so you'll need to use Fast style on him. But it doesn't sound to me as if choosing the correct style is your problem.Sometimes Geralt seems to get a little big hung up, and he can't hit anything. I've found that taking just a step or two seems to solve this problem. Moving the camera sometimes helps, too. So run away for a couple of steps, swivel the camera a bit, make sure you've selected Fast Style ("x" on your keyboard), and try again.

Corylea has already given most useful advice (I couldn't do better).I can add these two (they proved to be useful when I battled Leo's spirit on my first time):-use spectre oil (Abigail has some in her shop)-use aard a lot. If u succeed in knocking down him, you gain a big advantage-alternatively you may try Igni. I found it pretty effective against ghosts and wraiths

Thanks for your replies. I actually did try to run away a few steps and come back, and it didn't help. :( I was also Aard'ing like crazy, but since I couldn't get Geralt to attack, Leo just got back up and kept whaling on him.I'll try again! Maybe he was just having a bad day!

OK, with liberal application of Aard and quick style, I got him. :)One more question: I haven't gotten a silver sword yet. Am I supposed to have picked that up somewhere by now? I'm nearly at the end of Chapter 1, about to confront the Beast.

Good! Leo's ghost is kinda tough, so I usually leave this quest until near the end of the chapter, when Geralt has leveled up a bit. If you tried it early on, when you were low level, that could have been your problem.

The story gives you the silver sword at the appropriate time.
Near the beginning of Chapter 2
about to confront the Beast.

Good luck with the Beast! A lot of people find that a very difficult fight; Aard is your friend again there. There's a whole thread on strategies for beating the Beast (including my own advice), so feel free to consult it if you need help.

Ok, thank you. I was just worried I missed something.
