Alienware is almost never good value; you pay a lot for the useless name. Although that computer should have no problem with the game, you should be able to get a rig at least as good for several hundred dollars less. That Alienware is a little more portable than a bowling ball; it weighs 5.3kg.You can get a comparable, but much more portable ("only" 3.9kg), Sager NP8170 (Clevo P170HM; Sager is made by Clevo) for about $1500. Or a better desktop, if portability doesn't matter to you, for much less than that.

You'd be better off with a compact desktop rather than a laptop for gaming. Look into SFF(Small Form Factor) PCs if you're worried about space. In any case if you're buying the system just for the witcher 2 you should wait and see how the game performs in reality rather than base your purchase on spec recommendations. Based on the released recommended system requirements the system should run the game but not perfectly depending on how much the CPU will us it's turbo mode during gaming. As Guy N'wah posted above Alienware and all similar brands are very rarely, if ever, good value.

If you want performance, you should buy a PC.

Boy, I'm sick of people always going "Get a desktop, laptops are not for playing!". Yes they are, even a modern middle-class notebook will be able to deal with current games. They are mobile and that's what many of us are looking for. I could own a gaming desktop but it would be no use for me as I'm permanently moving around.

Calm down man. There are many gaming laptops, but you'll always get a better performance PC for the same amount of money. It depends on what you want.

I know, but as I said, it gets complicated when you try to move around with a desktop and it's whole periphery. My laptop on the other hand, I grab it and off I am to wherever I was going. A desktop is no alternative.

I have to agree, it's as if you asked for a fast car and people suggested you should get a motorcycle. If someone is looking for a gaming laptop, more often than not it's because they need the mobility.Regarding the OP, return it if you can. Wait till the game comes out and in the meanwhile keep looking for laptop with best gaming power/heat ratio. That overpriced piece you mentioned needs 240W PSU and it alone tells you it will be one big frying pan. I dare to say that the cooling in laptops is technologically stuck (a few heatpipes and one little fan) but they keep on selling hardware which can't be cooled by one little fan.So before buying make sure to check the reviews, you want something with 70°C and less on both CPU and GPU while playing because it gets only worse over time.So avoid CPUs with TDP higher than 35W and GPU with 30W and less (unless the tests show the laptop runs at low temperatures.) For a graphics card you want 128bit bus (temperature, wattage), GDDR5 (older would be obsolete) and good performance in tests. Also HDD temperatures shouldn't be over 45°C under load and the space in front of the keyboard shoudn't be made of metal (usually aluminium or magnesium) because it will heat up a lot.All in all, it's better to buy a laptop which can run TW2 just ok and doesn't overheat than a powerful laptop with poor performance due to overheating.

While I agree that desktops are better value and better for gaming if portability is not a requirement, I don't agree with a recommendation for an SFF desktop.SFF desktops take low-profile add-on cards -- if they take any at all. This is a problem when you are trying to specify a rig to run a new game that has a minimum requirement of upper-tier hardware. If you get an SFF model, it will come with a low-profile graphics card -- or none at all, and you will have to buy and add one.Finding a low-profile graphics card that meets even the minimum requirement for The Witcher 2 is going to be difficult. Newegg stocks none at all, and nobody else has a comparable selection.

MY GOD!NO! Please tell me you refunded my friend! 1600x900 is a very reasonable resolution to run at. You do not need a 6870 to play TW2 at that resolution, not even CLOSE! If you did refund and are still keeping a pc in mind please respond, I build pc's as a hobby and would be more than happy to help you save some cash! You can build a great pc for 5-600 that will absolutely beast games at 16x900. Alex, Hoping you didn't pull the trigger!
