Turns out Heavy Rain didn't get censored in the US after all, my mistake. It has come a long way. I couldn't see The Witcher 1 being censored if that game came out today.

Breasts are no taboo in America, they are in a fair amount of games now. It's a bit lower that the US censors don't like. Heavy Rain had no full frontal nudity. The Witcher 1 I think would still have some hassle with the uncensored models of the Bruxa and Morenn.

In GTAIV Lost and Damned expansion they got away showing a wiener.Would be pretty double standard censoring Witcher 1, which only show the female hair down there, and no genitalia.

Unfortunately there will always be a double standard with nudity. They got away with the penis in lost and damned due to a loophole, actually. It was originally released as downloadable content, and fell under the classic game clause 'online interactions NOT rated by the ESRB'. When it was released as a physical store copy, it fell as an expansion to GTA4, which had already been rated, and the ESRB didn't choose to rate it again. The laws have since been changed to enforce a separate rating for all store released games or expansions.I also personally think it's a matter of subtext, in the lost and damned, the nudity was meant to be funny and ugly, to provoke a laugh or a 'ew' from the audience. Men simply look funny naked sometimes, so there was no sexualisation to it whatsoever. With a naked woman, even if you're only showing her bush, not her genitals, it's difficult to not sexualize it, as women are beautiful, and it will be censored a little more harshly. That situation is kind of stand alone though, the rules wouldn't apply to almost any other game, as under any other circumstances an American developer would never have full frontal nudity of a male in their game.

I suppose that depends on your own sex and sexual preferences, no? (and personal and cultural complexes as well)

I'm so glad the question of censored and uncensored versions of the game finally got cleared. There was no information on this when I pre-ordered, and I was wondering if I will end up with a censored game. That would've been extremely annoying. Great that no one has to worry about that any longer!

After looking at TW2.. i'm really deterred in the games that rated 'T'.. no blood, colorful attacks and a little non-realistic like Dungeon Siege 3. That happens when developers + publishers wanted to appeal to larger audiences which they thought would gain more profit.

Awesome. Excellent news. And just in the interest of providing some information regarding US censorship, there isn't really any. The ESRB, and MPAA for that matter, are industry run monopolies that provide self-regulation in order to undercut any claim the government might have to exercise censorship. Censorship of film really only existed in the US from I believe the late '30s until the '60s. The US government doesn't actively censor games in the way that say Germany prohibits the appearance of Nazi iconography in games set during WWII.What is controversial about these organizations are the ratings they award to games and movies. MA or AO ratings from the ESRB mean that minors can't purchase the games and that certain stores that maintain a "family friendly" image might refuse to stock them, which can negatively affect sales. Often these organizations are accused of being more accepting of violence than sexuality when they apply these ratings, which does reflect a quirk of some parts of American society I suppose. The US film industry is a lot more susceptible to trying to avoid R or NC-17 ratings because they have a demonstrable effect on their bottom line.Anyway, the point is, if CDProjekt is comfortable with an MA or AO rating from the ESRB, they're free to do so. The only time the US government gets involved is when some jerk congressman or congresswoman decides to try to score some political points with conservatives. Even then the controversy is likely to improve sales for the game, not hurt them.

But of course. We are the country of "Praise The Lord... and pass the ammunition".

I have no idea if attempting to appeal to a big audience range really gives significant profit increase, but I know that there are adults who enjoy playing games and who don't find the type of games they played when they were 11 so appealing any longer, and yearn for mature content, be it story or graphics. They are let down and left behind by most game producers. I also find censorship insulting. No one should force their moral values on me. I can think for myself, thank you very much.

Umm... Heavy Rain did have full frontal nudity, and a "sex scene" to boot.. (The US version).. Just want to clarify that, since I still have that game.. (God I hated the "ending" sooo stupid, but that's a topic for another time and forum, lol)

I'm a pretty huge fan of Heavy Run, I've run that thing through like a dozen times, I'm certain there is no genitals in the game. Where do you believe there is?And the ending....yeah, I guess it's a little easy to see who the killer is coming by simple method of elimination. 'The Perfect Crime' was actually my favourite of all the endings.

When I went back and reserached I found that the full frontal stuff was not in any version of the game. At some time, yes, there were full frontal. They choose to put objects infront of the camera in the final product, hiding the naughty bits. I found some photos from a work in progress french copy, that showed female bush and male wiener, but nothing that shipped.

Yeah, that's what I heard happened. I've seen the full frontal version of the cut scenes of both Madison and Ethan from the early versions of the game, and somewhere along the line they were chopped for more US friendly audiences.
