No ferryman in the swamp

Hello, this is my first post on this forum.

Enjoying the game so far but I have a problem. I have embarked on my first trip to the swamp. Did a number of quests there.
But when I go back to the Load to leave the swamp, the ferryman isn't there. I have done a search on the forum and understand that he doesn't show up at night and when it rains, however he still won't show up at all, never. I am unable to leave the swamp. I have tried to show up at the Load at various time of the day but no joy.
I have updated to EE 1.5.

What am I doing wrong ?

Cheers.

He won`t always be on the ramp or dock look to the left and right . Pressing the alt tab should highlight where he is .

Thank you for the response Tommy.
Yes I have tried this, actually I have been literally running around the entire swap for hours trying to find him at various time of the day, to no avail.

Is he supposed to be really that difficult to find ?

Not likely, if you keep pressed the Alt key, or enable the floating names. It's in the Options of the game.
There are just two green names on the dock in Act 2, the ferryman and Leuvaarden (Vizima side).

Where are you looking for him? in the swamp or on the dike? Coz on the dike, he doesn't work in the night. You have to meditate or wait until the sunlight. In the swamp should be always active. You can use the Places of Power anyway, to fasr travel from Kalkstein's lab and the swamp.

Um, Jrhelly said that he was looking for the ferryman at the Swamp and that he knew not to look for him at night.

I have a mod that gives Geralt teleportation scrolls, so that he can teleport between the Swamp and the Temple Quarter; using them could get you around this problem. At least, it could as long as the absence of the ferryman isn't a sign of some larger glitch...

After not getting the ferryman to appear . I used Cory`s scrolls to teleport back to Vizima and made my way back to the docks and the ferryman was there . Paid him to take me to the swamp . Arrived and he was in the boat but just as Geralt goes through the small cutscene he disappears never to reappear . Strange . Did you go to the detective`s house ? According to the journal you haven`t . Also see the suspects quest has started .

EDIT : Even after going and talking to Raymond an talking to Leuvaarden to get the Safe Haven quest and paying the ferryman to go to the swamp as soon as i`m out of the boat the ferryman disappears .

What was the game version before updating to the 1.5 ?

Tommy thanks for the feedback. Ok so it looks like at least Cory's scrolls may save me from restarting from the beginning.

Before updating to 1.5, I was playing the original 1.1 boxed version.

Unrelated question: are there supposed to be wolves in the swamp ? I can't see any in my game but I saw a few people mentionning wolves in the swap (not sure if this is the swamp in Chap2 or 3 though). If I'm supposed to get wolves and I don't get them, it looks like I've got a much bigger problem and I'd better reinstall the whole game.

Actually... does it make sense for me to make a copy of my save game (the one I sent you) and try to un-install the game and reinstall the whole thing ?

Did you start the game you're playing now with the 1.1 version? Games from before the 1.4 (Enhanced Edition) patch are NOT compatible with the EE, so if you're using an old saved game with the EE, that's your problem. You can start the game over from the beginning, or you can download someone else's saved game from the end of Chapter 1 or the beginning of Chapter 2 and play from there.

You can find a saved game from the end of Chapter 1 here.

Sorry for digging up an old post, but I found it via Google.

Seems like I'm having a similar problem, yet also somewhat different. I got to the town, did a few missions, then got sent to the swamp. Found Grandpa and started to escort him to the shrine, when I died. As I it was late night, I too this as a hint and went to bed.

Next day, I go and fire up TW1 and instead of finding myself in the swamp, I'm back in the middle of town, just above the sewer entrance. And yes, I had saved it in the swamp.

Here's my problem. I went back out to the dock, and no ferryman. Bugger. So I thought that it must be a semi-random thing and that he was currently not available. And yes, I was checking both night & day. So I went around town and did a few missions. Which is where I probably did my second mistake, as obviously I was saving my progress....

I've tried waiting all night, and all day, meditating near the dock and looking around the small area at the dock & dyke. Going back into town then back out, hoping that would reset him.

So I figure I'll do what I have rarely had to do, use the console to 'cheat' and make him appear at the dock. No console!!

Don't really want to have to start again, but it's looking like I'll have to. I've already paused playing this to play through Black Mesa. Thought I'd give this another go. So I've unstalled it and reinstalled it, still no go.

So it looks like some glitch has killed the game for me. Basically I'm thinking that the savegame glitched and dumped me back into town, but the ferryman is still 'there' in the swamp.

Hmm, just had a thought. What if I unstall it and then reinstall it without using patches? I only ever got one patch to work, and that was the TWEE patch (I have The Witcher Enhanced Edition disc from CoreGames). I might give that a go, probably not going to work. If it doesn't, I'll probably move on to Black Flag, as I don't have enough time to worry about one game. Too many games, not enough time. lol
