Hi
When we save the game, there are always two files for each save : a sav and a png.
Now my game wont create the png anymore, only sav.
So when I want to load a save, I cant see the snapshot.
I can only see the snapshots of previous saves, coz the png from my previous saves are still present in "gamesaves" folder
no png for new manual saves or auto saves.

Any fix for this? Thanks in advance.

0.) Are you using any mods, or have you ever used any in the past?

1.) Check that the Permissions for the ...\Documents\The Witcher 3\... folder are set to "Everyone".

2.) What resolution are you running the game at?

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for the late reply, been trying many things and found the culprit.... it happens everytime I try to alter the witcher3.exe either by using modlimiter fix (found on nexus) or by using hexed.it (as suggested here https://forums.cdprojektred.com/index.php?threads/guide-mod-limit-fix.11004427/)

I am not using a lot of mods, in fact only around 20-ish (trying to fix the mod limit just to be safe)...
I'd been wondering if the number of mods I have might be the cause of stuttering, but now I know it's not.

As long as I use the original exe, my saves work as intended, with snapshots. To answer your question, Permissions set to Everyone, and 1920x1080 res.

Makes me wonder now, why others can alter the exe without any problems?

We'll move this to Mod Discussions, and maybe someone there will have an answer. :)

Probably you've installed the game in default install location.
Modded games should never be installed in Program Files, or any Windows folder, and it's known to cause access issues with using these type of mods. Editing the Exe may have caused the file to flip to untrusted status, causing a reduction to limited access.

Ideal location, for games is on a separate SSD, or if you've only one, or just a HDD, install path should be, something like this;
C;\Games\The Witcher 3\

Regardless, whether you move the game, or not, you shouldn't be using Mod Limit Fix, don't get me wrong, it's a great fix, but editing the Exe is a hack of first resort, when the fix is first created.
The author even said the hack would be replaced by a DLL version,

Soon there will also be a DLL to add so that you would not have to modify the game executable itself.

Another modder came up with an even better method, than the one the author intended, and that is the mod you should use.
Mod Limit Adjuster by LHSQ and Sedmelluq

Read the instructions carefully, as it requires the ASI Loader DLL, and is not itself a DLL, but it works, and might not give you the same issues.

Thanks for the reply

My install loc is D:\Games\TW3

I have tried using the Mod Limit Adjuster, now I wonder whether it may or may not conflict with the unlimited custom markers mod here

https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4575465-mod-requesthelp-more-custom-map-markers/
this mod requires dsound.dll, while for mod limit adjuster, there is a note to remove dsound.dll before playing and to only use dinput8.dll which comes with ASI loader

(I understand that in many other games, renaming to dinput8 or dsound can be both acceptable)

I find that in open world games, custom markers are important, coz we may come across enemies too diff for us at lower levels. I usually mark them to come back later. (along with a custom note would be nice in this regard as well)

So I tried both mods, and it seems to be getting along. However, how do I know the mod limit adjuster works? Maybe there is some kind of log file telling us it works, or anything.
Planning to use the mods listed here https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2662
currently downloading them. Some are obsolete/redundant, gotta figure that part out..
