I start up Witcher skip through the intro get to what I believe is the main menu...Only one problem, I can't see any of the menu selections. When I hover over a selection nothing but...some kinda of design shows up with no lettering at all. It is like the selections are corrupted or something. Any possible quick fix?PS. This is EE.System Specs: q9450 cpu 9800gtx 512 xp 32bit 4gb ram

Yeah still nothing, though I already had those keys in under the witcher... I also have The Witcher Enhanced Edition\1.00.0000 with nothing but default value under it...Should I add the keys that are under the witcher folder? P.S This really pisses me off having spent $40 US for a game that I can't even play and cannot return to store I bought it from. I already tried returning it and told the store (Best Buy) that it was a terribly coded game and I just want to get something else. What is even more frustrating is that there is no uninstall program and I can't even remove it with windows add/remove programs option.PSS I am reinstalling in my C drive now, just the default instead of where I install every single other game I play./edit:Well....I just reinstalled in default location and it is working correctly now. If they didn't intend for the game to be installed where you wanted to install it they shouldn't have had the option available.[MOD]Use the MODIFY button[/MOD]

I bought The Witcher a good while back, and played through it successfully a few times pre-EE. But ever since 1.4 and 1.5 my menu screen has always had the issue with all the bars being completely blank.Yes, I have re-installed the game a number of times.Yes, I have checked the registry entries. The only difference is "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CD Projekt Red\The Witcher]"InstallFolder"="C:\\Program Files\\The Witcher" Is instead 'G:\Program Files\The Witcher'. I've also tried 'G:\\Program Files\\The Witcher' Nothing.I havn't tried installing the game to C drive but with only 3.5 gigs available, I can't. My G drive is the only other SATA drive I have that has not only the space to hold the game, but as well as the unreasonably large savefiles it creates. (Wouldn't be so bad if Quick Save just saved on a single file instead of making a new one every time)Any ideas? I've successfully played The Witcher on this drive before, no idea why it isn't working now.

To have words on the menus, you need two files: for English, this is lang_3.key and dialog_3.tlk.I know of at least one mod that replaces the dialog_3.tlk file. You might want to check to see if you still have both of these files. I have the EE on disc, and the date of the file for the .tlk file is August 5, 2008. If you don't have that file or have one with a significantly different date, let me know, and I'll upload mine for you.

I've got both dialog_3.tlk (8/5/08) and lang_3.key (8/8/08)As far as I'm aware, I've got no mods. Just Vanilla install -> 1.4 (TWEE_Upgrade & TWEE_English_language_pack) .. I had the TWEE_Upgrade installer only install the engish language and un-checked the rest.. Dunno if that would have anything to do with it.. then -> 1.5Edit: Also, I had the same textless menu result for 1.4 as I did for 1.5 and my registry was as it should be for both attempts. I didn't bother trying 1.0Edit 2: Just incase, a truncated version of my dxdiag:

Okay, the next thing to try is to make sure that you have your language checked.Open up Djinni. You don't need to open any particular file with Djinni; just start the program itself.Go to the View menu, scroll down to Text Language, then across to see which language options you have. English should be checked, as shown on the attached picture.

Yep. Text language & Vocal language are both checked English. (And only display english as options, as I figured it should have)Edit: Well it's solved for now. I'm not entirely sure what did it, if either loading Djinni spurred it to work or me actually waiting a bit through the intro movie to make sure the voice overs worked but the menu screen text is now there. With it suddenly working so randomly, I'm not going to assume it's completely fixed just yet but atleast i have text for now. Thanks for all the help you provided, Corylea! :3

the game was install in G:\Program files? maybe this was the problem... i presume the registry key now points to the real installation folder

The games Launcher is located in.. "G:\Program Files\The Witcher" .. All I did with the install was change C to G, otherwise the path was no different. I've got 4 hard drives and the DVD drive so yes it was on G: .. The entire time the registry pointed to G:\Program Files\The Witcher; It's now pointing to G:\\Program Files\\The Witcher (double backslash) .. The only thing I did between when the menu wasn't working and when it was is loading Djinni to check if English was available and checked then I let the intro actually get to the point of the text + voiceover. *Edit*

SO whenever i start the game nothing shows up the main menu is up but NONE of the words show at all and when they do show the subtitles will be in polish and none of the voice acting works I reinstalled and it still wont work. BTW I installed it into an external hard drive so I can play on my laptop and desktop. Is that the problem?

I'm not sure exactly how TW installs on a machine, but I'm sure it sets its own registry settings (and other savegame settings in C:\) on the PC you install it on, so you could be in fact missing configuration data when running it off an external hdd (not the PC you used to install the game on said device).Install the game on one or the other computers and forget the external hdd. The performance issues of using a device like that is reason enough to avoid such setups.

I don't know about external hdd, but I know for sure that you can play Witcher without it being "properly" installed. I copied the game directory to another location and installed a new version, so I now have three working copies on my system (one original, one TWEE Flash and one TWEE FCR).I'd also recommend to install the game to your desktop pc and see if it works, same for the laptop if you want to. You can always use your savegames on both computers.

I agree with DelightfulMcCoy... that is a pretty sage option. However, external hard-disks can be trickier as files will have to be in constant flux or be manually moved andthe updating of the registers running the game may take a wrong turn at some point. I've seen it happen and don't recommend it, sorry.Hope this helps. :peace:
