Non-Random Crash to Desktop

Hiya,

I posted on the steam boards about it, and it was suggested there that I try here for support, so here goes.

I Crash to Desktop when trying to enter the top floor of the Flotsam inn. Every time I try. This is preventing me from continuing the game. As far as I know, Sile is located in that top floor, and I need to talk to her to actually face off against the Kaylan, or whatever that beasty thing is called.

Things I've tried to solve this:
- Try to enter at varying times. Morning, noon or night, doesn't seem to affect it.
- Massively lower graphics settings. I usually play on Medium, since it looks pretty and my framerate never hiccups. Lowering the settings didn't help.
- I'm playing the Steam version of the game, and I did have to run the witcher with admin privileges straight from the .exe file to get it running the first time. Since then, I can start it up from Steam without issues though it still tries to install the "VC Microsoft redistrubutable" or something every time.
- Completing all the "pre-quests". I thought I might be trying to advance the quest too quickly, but having completed the mongoose potion and having a trap made for it, there's nothing else to do but challenge the beast.

I like your game. Despite the difficulty curve, despite having to tinker with admin privileges to get it working and even despite the occasional random crash to desktop, I still enjoy playing it. However, since this specific CtD isn't random but every time I try to enter that top floor of the Flotsam inn, I can't continue.

So what can I do?

When you say you lowered graphic settings, do you mean you also tried lowering your game resolution? If not, then I'd definitely try cranking that down to something ridiculously small.

And it's "Kayran" :)
