Not enjoying any game at this point
Hey guys, it's been a long time since I've posted my own topic on the forums and I've come to you with a rather dire situation, I'm afraid. I've recently finished my semester at University and have been contemplating clearing my backlog of games to play. Now, the problem lies with my lack of enjoyment in playing them. It's been on a steady decline ever since the summer Diablo 3 came out. I had never played Diablo 1 or 2 before the much anticipated third game came out and I had the chance to experience Diablo 2 (I haven't played the first one yet) and for some bizarre reason I felt attached the world of Sanctuary. Diablo 2 didn't have much of a story at all but there was some element of the game that felt right to me, personally. I guess I could point to the music and the atmosphere since I was so impressed how an isometric game could reel me in for that time. It seems like I'm digressing though but there's more to this interjection here. Summer came and went along, and another year of my studies had commenced which left me with absolutely not nearly enough time to enjoy some games. Now that I have the free time to play, I don't have the energy because I'm not being hooked by games that are released today. Most games in the market just feel like reskinned copies of one another with some rather poor attempt at telling a story (this could be through the world or the literal story line that games now show). I forced myself to play through MGS1 since I bought that a while ago and really wanted to experience the magic of playing this game just like I played the demo many years ago.
Since I haven't been able to play something that I feel is unique and interesting to me, I've been on this downward trend looking down on games that came out today with no sense of love or labor involved. I get it, game developers work very diligently on their creations and takes a monumental amount of organization to make stuff happen. The problem lies in this market that seems to target "the enjoy-this-game-for-this-month-until-the-next-one-launches-another-month-later". Maybe I'm not the target audience and I just need to get over myself or there's some place else where I can find something I find unique. Or I could focus on programming something I want to create and work on projects that take up so much of my time that I can just forget about video games.
So, guys and girls, what are your thoughts?
