I normally listen to video game music tracks, but lately I've had a hankerin' for the classical stuff, supplied, of course, by YouTube.

I was familiar with the "Marche" part, but never knew there were other well-known parts to this music piece, like "Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy." Lovely!

You guys are massively increasing my must playlist! I haven't heard of some of these bands!

@AutumnalWanderer has done me the favor of lengthening my playlist quite a bit here lately. Not gunna lie, I'm about to look further into Avantasia also.
"Metal" and "Opera" automatically made me think Klingon. I'm hopeless...

Am I slowly getting pushed into listening to dumb Greek music? I hope not. I think these guys are alright. :p

If you haven't heard it, this also is a great piece of Tchaikovsky. Not one of his best, but still very good. Written to remember and celebrate the fallen russian soldiers in the war against Napoleon.

And ofcourse you have his Swan Lake. But that is known to everybody I pressume. :)

@rohirrim Haha, yep, 1812 Overture, the one from which most people are familiar with only the last minute or so. I'm not fond of the bells, myself; I'm guessing they have some symbolic meaning, but they just don't seem to fit the rest of the music for me.

Ah nice you bring that up. You see, that piece was conducted first close to the then unifinished Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture was written with the completion of the cathedral in mind. The ground floor of the gallery was a memorial dedicated to the Russian victory over Napoleon. The walls displayed more than 1,000 square metres of Carrara bianca marble plaques listing major commanders, regiments, and battles of the Patriotic War of 1812 (with the lists of awards and casualties appended).

I watched this band live a couple of weeks ago, on the fuzztastic festival that happened in Drama, Greece. Cool stuff. A band from the US actually came to my country. :p
