[NSFW maybe] Sex scenes: Why can't they be more realistic / raw?

Please read my post, tell me what you think of my idea, even just as a theory? (the different versions, heavily censored vs 100% UNcensored)
It's easier to create a base version and then remove stuff from it based on specific market censorship limitations (see Japan). This is where we're at currently with the game.

It's an entirely different matter to create something, sell it and then spent time and money creating what is basically porn DLC that you'll still have trouble selling.... because in this day and age extreme violence depictions are fine but sex isn't, maybe in a decated or two, who knows.

You also have to keep in mind consoles (something I myself too often forget because I play on PC), everything goes through Microsoft and Sony (since there's no Nintendo release AFAIK) and they will absolutely not allow explicit sex scenes. Especially Sony, they've been coming down hard on that censoring even suggestive things in some games (but hypocritically not the sex scene in TLOU2). Console are the biggest chunk of sales for most multiplatform releases, this is especially true for big AAA releases.

So basically you put in all that effort in adding all that content and you'd be limited to PC. And in the case of the PC you're limited to Steam and GOG (if they make an exception with CP2077, which would open another can of worms) because the Epic Game Store doesn't allow that kind of content. Not a huge issue since given the chance most people would pick GOG or Steam. But that's still only a portion of your consumer base.

In the end it boils down to cost/effort vs benefit and the benefit isn't all that large... not even if you slapped on a Mr. Stud implant on it :coolstory:

I think the sex theme has been an overestimated subject over time... IMO we've been growing dreams of a "hardcore" mature game that would experience things beyond the lines of mainstream mature games : watching, hearing mature content, things that you wouldn't show to kids bcz too shocking, filthy or depressing (wink wink cyberpunk genre). But I think CP77 won't cross that line. There "may" be mature ideas showing but not in the form of graphic expression.

But you know guys that a full-view sex scenes (with flesh-sticks all out in action)... would be porn, right ? You aware there most likely won't be porn in that game right ?
Maybe Cyberpunk2077 can just have a DLC that's adults only?
Would that affect the entire games rating?

I'm not fussed. If I want a porn game I'll play something like Honey Select 2

Uh... I’m not sure how the scenes were in the Witcher 3 but if it’s something like Mass Effect or Dragon Age thats ok by me, I don’t wanna see anything detailed or realistic, give me that fade out! Specially since it’s in first person the awkward goes up like 80%. I still can’t even imagine but luckily that’s not thaaat important for me so they do them I guess.

I’m excited for the romances but much more in how characters develop through them, dialogue and etc. I think for a game like this it’s better to focus on that and if you’re looking for stuff more focused on sex there are other types of games available.

the fact that V will have to actually engage persistently with their romantic interest (it won't be just one conversation, or one quest, or one specific 'romance dialogue' you pick repeatedly) makes romances more compelling to pursue. this is only as far as i am aware, i could be wrong.

Howdy,

So obviously, I'm asking this for science (if you believe that at all. Wink, wink ;))

But seriously, since CP2077 will be sold in more countries than The Witcher was, the game now has to deal with nations where censorship is (in my opinion) done over the top. Thankfully, I come from one where that is not the case (I think).

It seems the game will keep its promise and still let you customize your precious thing. But according to Kotaku here, sex scenes will be implied sex instead of depicted sex.

CP2077's decision to stay first-person and offer sex scenes from that perspective is very sweet~~because that could offer some super duper immersive stuffs like none before. But it seems to defeat its own purpose when it settles for this: "“the game contains no depictions of actual sexual activity nor does it contain explicit and realistic depictions of simulated sexual activity”." quoted from ESRB.

I imagine some of you who have done it know this: it is very hard to not see you and your partner's precious things touching each other (briefly) when you're doing it. But that's what implied sex means. You can't see it.

What's the point of customizing my genitals if I can't see how it works during sex?
What's point of customizing my gun if I can't see it while it's firing?
You didn't censor heads exploding. So why would you censor cherries popping?
You do know that the game would then be labled AO right? No game company in the world would do something as stupid as that.

I prefer if their time and money go somewhere else, like combats animations.
And subway.
And every role will be there.
And printable character sheets.

Let's just give Lovers lab a few months and see what can happen.

Creation kit level of modding suite was never really a thing for The Witcher games, though. Nor was there any licensing of modding tools to make it so that modders can add meaningfully to the game. The modding scene was therefore nowhere as big as Skyrim or Fallout, despite The Witcher 3's popularity.

For selfish reasons, I hope CP2077 will try something different. Allow deeper access to game files by mods.

I think it all just boils down to the fact that society as a whole views sex as bad/evil and violence as normal and fine. or fun even.

So... yeah. Unless society learns to get their head on straight, we're gonna keep seeing exploding bodies in detail and sex being implied.

I'd say this isn't a CDPR thing and more of a people thing.

I completely agree. Besides whatever they do, I am sure Rule 34 and 35 of the Internet will provide what is left wanting from the sex scenes.

Yeah Im really excited to see how nuanced its gonna be. And if/how the world will acknowledge that a relationship is happening? I just feel that many games lock the romance in this line of cutscene/dialogue with that specific character but outside of that if feels like nothing has changed, you could date 10 people at the same time and everything else reacts the same. So I’d like to see some depth in that regard, it would make for entertaining moments in the story. No idea if it will happen tho, just something I think is cool.

I don't think sex should be even included in a videogame (yes you can have sex in game but we still lack social working patterns in games or working AI, that's idiotic) but, if you really have to put it, at least do it in an artistic way and not forced in the story, at least it won't look like "that's why you're selling so much". I'll personally skip all that kind of content, I'm not interested (plus I'm old enough to have a family and it won't be appropiate or respectful in their regards).

I could see a few reasons for it:

1. Developer taste. Games are art, after all, and reflect the aesthetic preferences of their creators.
2. Difficultly animating it to not look silly/awkward/detract from the story/etc. Also, time/resources would have to be taken away from other things, which may not be worth it
3. Social stigma. Sex in video games is still a relatively new thing, and not completely accepted yet.
4. Due to #3, Not being able to sell the game in certain countries/being forced to censor etc.

Raw sex is often looks so trivial and fugitive you probably won't be able to notice actual "benis into vajaja :-DDD" intercourse, so I'd go with raw instead of realistic/artistic/whatever if I were the animation lead/producer. Even moreso in first person, observe GTA once more.
But what I want from the game to come back is nudes. Nudes collected after the intercourse in Witcher 1 in form of erotic cards and/or nudes sent on a player character's phone like in GTA 4. It's a nice memory and realistic indication that hooking up is succesful and our interest is agreeable.

Yes, it would. The only way around it is with unofficial mods. Sorry, console users.
Okay then we need some amazingly good mod support, You know for uh, Educational reasons :ROFLMAO:

I want modding tools for Cyberpunk2077 that surpass minecraft and skyrim combined. If we can get modding tools that surpass and go beyond any game we have ever experienced in our lives, perhaps, maybe, the modding community in both quality and size will be the greatest of any game in history. CDPR is already on another level, but they could probably double that power level with super-saiyan mod support.

I agree but I also disagree. I don't think it's a CDPR thing, and I also don't think it's a people thing. I think that it's more like most people probably don't care all that much, but the people in the ratings boards probably want everyone to think that everyone is afraid of sex or nudity, when really most people probably don't care that much as long as it's done tastefully, or whatever their personal preferences of tasteful can be chosen and their personal preferences of "distasteful" in their own opinion can be easily avoided. Like essentially everyone being able to see what they like, and just simply avoid what they personally don't like. Everyone is happy, everyone gets what they like, none of what they don't. Everyone wins. The only people who would be upset are
1. people who want other people to experience flavors of icecream ( icecream flavors being a simple metaphor for personal preferences of any general likes and dislikes ) that they don't actually like, for no reason other than because they want to force them to like something they don't ( I will never understand this )
2. people who want other people to not experience, and stop liking things that they don't like.

99.999999% of people are cool to live and let live, and don't really care what other people do as long as everyone is nice and doesn't force anyone else to do anything they don't like, especially in video games, which is why I bring up the example. like personally I really don't like mint icecream, but even though I like chocolate or coffee or green tea or whatever, I don't really mind if someone eats mint icecream, and I'm not gonna go like "WHOA WHOA WHOA DUDE YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT" you know? That's how I feel the ratings boards treat everyone else on the planet. It's like we are all like "Just treat us like adults and let us enjoy our video game/movie/tv/book/anime experience and don't interfere at all" but the ratings board is always hovering over all of us like " Ohhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo you can't have FUN! you have to have less fun, because we're worried about you being offended" and I have to say, I am very proud of and respectful of Mike Pondsmith because a while back he was actually standing up for himself and he himself said (and I ATTEMPT to quote) "I don't need someone to be offended on my behalf" (I hope I got that right, sorry if I did not) but I feel like we can all feel the same about the ratings boards, and I feel like we can all hope together that one day, we can be free of any and all ratings and just have the best experiences possible, with nothing held back, and just solid good passionate storytelling that isn't ever EVER watered down for any reason at all. Just pure passion and creativity, DIRECT, and UNFILTERED, straight from the hearts of our glorious developers at CDPR/gog.

I hope this spoke to everyone and made everyone feel really good. I just wanted to pour MY heart out here. I feel you all my friends, I FEEL YOU. :)(y)
