nVidia 8500GT graphics corruption or game instability

It's really getting a little old. I cannot play the game for more than a few minutes at a time without the graphics going all buggy on screen and being unable to do anything, the game eventually crashes.I have the latest drivers, I have used all the defrag tools suggested. It's almost to the point where I want a refund.. like I expect they would give me one...I am redownloading the game again to see if reinstalling it with a fresh download helps. I am not hopeful.

Before giving up and, asking for a refund. Think twice, you might miss more then you think.Give us more information, what is your system, what OS are you using.... The faq is far from complete, many other solutions exist.

Windows XP Home SP2intel core 2 Duo CPU E6750 @2.66GHz (2CPUs)2046 RAMNvidia GeForce 8500GT, 512MBlatest beta driverSound Blaster AudigyLatest driverDirectx 9cit seems most commonly to screw up when I am talking to an NPC. graphics will go all screwy, and I eventually have to either shut it down or it crashes. My brother bought a copy.. but he got the DVD disk from the store and he has had no problems like I am experiencing. I bought it from the digital download and nothing but problems.I could use his disk to install the game and use the key I bought.. but the stupid disk check will keep it from working. I do not think atari will send me a disk.. without paying more.

This really sound like either directx or video card drivers issue. Go in the troubleshooting faq and, follow the instruction to install your drivers properly. after, get your brother DVD and, go in the directx folder and run the setup there ! I think of it, try to see with windows update of there is any priority updates that you don't have installed. Some issues have been fixed that way !

I would suggest you to first go thru the FAQ you have here... Youre chances to fix your problem are pretty good with it !

First off, I'm running thewitcher on windows xp, using AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4400+, 3gb ram, NVidia GeForce 8500gtMy problem is, that frequently, either when beginning or during conversation, and sometimes during cut-scenes, my graphics bug-out. Occasionally I get bluescreened and restarted, but not usually. Typically, it will stall on some part of dialogue, and then the graphics will flip out, sometimes it stops responding, and alt-tabbing will initiate the dialogue sequence again - with the graphics still screwy, but I can manage to find my way to the save button and I can save it and restart. I have no other problems running any other part of the game so far. This is a mid-conversation example:

I'd be curious to see if you get a fix for this as I'm having the exact same problem...same graphics cut out. It's almost as if the textures get screwy. Restarting also fixes this but navigating to the save can be tricky.Intel Core 2 duo E6400 @ 2.13 GHz 2.0 Gb RAMNvidia Geforce 8500 GT

I'm also having a similar issue with the 8500. I have vista though and the game just crashes.

Same problem here. It doesn't usually blue screen the entire screen for me, but enough that it's a major distraction. It happens on just about every cut scene.

i am using 8500GT too, and i face this problem almost on every dialogs(screen freeze for a while with sound in background and suddenly unfreeze but with graphics glitch everywhere and colour disorder , sometime crash out to desktop saying nv4 display has stopped working properly and force me to restart comp)i been avoid touching the witcher for a week now and play other intensive games such as prostreet , unreal tournament 3 without any error so i am pretty sure is not mine comp problem. i am using driver 169.01 and running under xp pro service pack 2

The 8500 GT is BELOW minimum specs. Exactly where, below that level, isn't that clear, but the benches for it are pretty bad. I leave it down near the bottom because so many are SCAM cards, like this thread's. You can't USE a 512 MB total with a 128 Bit memory bandwidth. The ordinary limit is 128 MBs, with texture swapping occasionally to use a second 128 MB block. Total = 256 MBs (with a very few rare exceptions, and none of the known 8500 GTs pass that test). I consider any card so bad that most of its producers elect to SCAM people with it is not worth looking at. Someone here claimed it was equal or better than a 7600 GS. I don't think so: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=387&card2=514P.S. Exactly WHY does anyone buy a Quad-Cored processor, at the cost of that technology, mis-match that fancy thing to a junker $50 video card, and then decide to complain? Weird economic sense there, the card's worth less than the price of the game ? Come on, what's that about ? http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=717&model2=856&chart=285http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=738&model2=856&chart=285

If you did your homework properly you would have seen that the 7600GT outperforms the 8500GT by far.

Don't blame them. It's the market that has done them wrong. I didn't even realize there was even a 8500 GT. I believe it was the 8600 GT that was around 7600 or 7800GT, something like that. 8700 being more on the higher end of things and 8400 not even meant for gaming. In all honest I've never seen so many cards released with so many different numbers at so short a time. It's as if the markets were planning on scamming people.
