nVidia drivers 174.74 - Witcher performance boost!

I just DL'ed the new set of nVidia drivers, 174.74 from laptopvideo2go.com (I use a laptop with 8600M GT) and fired The Wticher up... and wow the game feels much smoother and the FPS seems much more stable than any other drivers I have had before. For laptop users check www.laptopvideo2go.com for these drivers and make sure to read the instructions on how to install these driver properly.Desktop users are lucky and can get their driver pretty much from anywhere.Enjoy :)Two features of the release:# Improved performance on many DirectX 9, DirectX 10, and OpenGL applications.# Numerous game and application compatibility fixes. Please read the release notes for more information on product support, features, driver fixes and known compatibility issues.

Unfourtanetelly, the driver is EXCLUSIVE to Windows Vista or for Geforce 9,so I won´t have a better perfomance in my modest 7600 GT.I am waiting months for this and Nvidia simply wants to OBLIGATE people to buy Geforce 8/9 and Windows Vista...

Uhm no? The driver is for every Geforce (series 6 and up) and they released it for xp/vista 32/64bit.You can get it here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Anyone can say if the driver improves also the perfomance under Windows XP.It´s very annoying to revert to a older driver,so I must know before I download the beta driver...

I just downloaded and installed these drivers on XP and I have to say that the trade quarter does feel smoother now, but perhaps I am imagining things.

Problem ive got, just fitted a new motherboard and on the disk came Nvidia drivers, not sure if they are the upto date 1's its just that when I delete my old drivers I cant get online to install new 1's.Im not sure i want to do this I may mess it up, So if I run in safe mode with online network on, I could download this latest nvidia driver so it replaces the 1 that comes with my motherboard CD.??Is it worth doin all this to try with that Beta driver?

You have to download the right driver from the link I posted above. Then uninstall your current driver and reboot. Windows will boot up with a standard driver, so you can normaly use your computer (will be a bit slow but it works). Then you can install the new driver. If that's too complicated for you: skip the driver uninstall step and simply install the new driver ontop. Thats not the most elegant way but works also ;)

Sorry, but I didn´t notice any improvement in the perfomance on Outskirts. It´s a shame but it appears that the driver did NOTHING to a 7600 GT under Windows XP. I have the same slowdown as I enter the Crypt or the village.Actually,it seems worse. And I think there is some kind of bug, because in the dawn, the sky become yellow.Take a look:http://img210.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217401731ug0.pnghttp://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217403054wz1.pnghttp://img521.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217404370jj6.pnghttp://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217424882fm2.pnghttp://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217425900uy0.pnghttp://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217433590xb5.pnghttp://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217434340jq2.pngWhat about the sun in the evening?:http://img230.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217380070jp6.pngAnd finnaly, problem of texture clipping; the leafs of the trees looks like transparent.I think. And below,a problem of texture resolution:http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witcher2008040217161376kd6.png

Yeah, If you notice there hasn't been a driver update for the 7xxx cards since December 2007.

There hasn't been a driver update for every Geforce since December 2007. At least no "official one". But there are several beta drivers and the main difference to an official release is the lack of Microsoft's WHQL certificate. Well I don't need that.

Maybe it was allways that color but your old driver didn't show? Try setting your lighting detail from high to medium.

Sweet...so now I am almost OBLIGATED to change my video card until AT LEAST the end of year or I won´t be able to run the game well.? :'( Pay attention, please! If I have slowdowns even in THE OUTSKIRTS,do you yhink the game will be playable after Act III?In fact, the recommended configuration of the game is TOO HIGH and only with this, can SOMEONE play it smoothly. It´s a SHAME!!

Although the last driver was a few months ago, since ENTIRE 2007(or at least, the second falf),NO DRIVER improves the perfomance of my 7600 GT in games.Worse than that;I actually move the slider of Shaders from High to Low.It´s known that shaders are some of things that put more weight in games, specially for Geforce 7XXX.I did it,however, some of the slowdowns still remains and the average frame rate didn´t change very much.I could put everything or almost everything in low,but THEN the game will be UGLY and playing it will be AWFULI guess the patch 1.3 ALSO HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER TO 7600,so I almost doomed! :'(

Lighting and shadow quality have almost no impact on game performance. The best way to improve framerate is to lower the viewing distance. If the game still refuses to run smoothly, lower texture detail to medium and don't use a resolution bigger then 1024 or AA/AF. Certainly this looks not great but that's what you can expect from an outdated mid-range card.Later in the game, trade quarter and beginning of old vizima are a bit heavy and can get choppy even on higher-end systems.

Athlon64 X2 3800.I will try to buy a 8800 GS/GT or 9600 GT until July, but it is unlikely that I also have money to change the CPU... :(

Maybe the CPU is holding you back, not the GPU. Try using a small resolution, is the game is slow even then, it's the CPU's fault.I don't knwo the market situation in your country, but maybe it could be possible to buy a used CPU+board, some people just love to buy these new ultra-powerful Intel CPUs :)

It´s not that easy... :'(My CPU is a 939 socket and if I buy a new CPU,I MUST HAVE ALSO to buy another CPU,motherboard and memory, which is pretty expensive, considering my sistem is worth nothing...My video resolution is in 1024x768,it´s pretty low...
