Nvidia presentation in a nutshell - SUPERCOMPUTERS.

Also computer vision. But yeah, they're reminding us that their core market is the science and industrial establishment; from that, you can draw your own conclusions about the importance of personal computers and gaming.

But here's their view of real-time graphics: 5760 cores is too many for plain old graphics. You get diminishing returns on realism. So you use those 8 teraflops to do physics simulation and ray tracing in real time. If a Titan Z isn't enough, you can get an IRay realtime renderer. 8 2880-core (Titan Black equivalent) GPUs per box, and they demonstrated a gang of 19 of them. You could do quite a holodeck (or, more profitably, a virtual showroom) with that.

Can I just mail them my liver, or must I sell it first?

First of all its overpriced, 2. its total overkill for casual and even hardcore gamer. Stock will be limited and only available from major retailers. They already have tech and knowlage to release next GPU's but they wait. They tell people what they want to hear and when it suits them.

And I thought 500$ for 1 GPU is a lot.

It is utter overkill for any current gaming use. But that is not what it is for. nVidia does not care that it is of no interest to amateurs, nor should they.

Ever priced a Tesla or high-end Quadro card? The Titan line is a flaming bargain in comparison. These little supercomputers will sell to graphics professionals as fast as they can make them.

It's all about the double precision teraflops.

It's not intended for everyday gaming use, the entire keynote was about it's usage in realtime rendering or physics calculation or raytracing, not playing videogames.

It might be.. yet it will be availble on amazon and every other major website for everyone to buy. They know there are crazy people who just have to own 4x titan and cant wait to buy it. The same week Titan Z comes out we will see videos on YT people showing of.

Well Quadro and Firepro can be bought by anyone as well doesn't mean it's wise to buy them. If someone has $3000 to spend on Titanball Z, well good for them but it really doesn't change anything for us.

Wouldn't it be better for someone buy 3 Titan Blacks instead of 1 Z, that beats it in probably every single way? I mean the Z is 2 Titans Black on 1 PCB with reduced clock speeds. Unless someone comes with an intention to get 8 Titans Z with a total of 16 gpus for supercomputing though I never seen more than 8 so no idea if its possible?

You gotta 4-way SLI that Titan Z.

nVidia will be happy to sell you an 8-way Titan Black setup. They start at $50,000. You can gang them if that's not enough. They ran a team of 19 VCAs at their keynote to render that virtual Honda in real time. http://www.slashgear.com/nvidia-iray-vca-tells-designers-to-ditch-prototyping-25322074/

What seems like a ridiculous price to us is good value to professionals who will make money using these little supercomputers.

Nice but I wonder why they chose to render Honda, I would pick something more exotic like Porsche and so on. And I guess 16 way setup is impossible now, since they chose 8 or 16 is even for pro's an overkill.

I guess it can also be used for VFX production. No wonder some movies and games cost crazy amount of money to produce. That includes tons of hardware.

Define overkill and define pro. I don't know much about rendering, but in high performance computing (parallel processing and scientific simulations) an array of 16 GPU's is what a small university lab would have. Large scale high performance computing clusters have thousands of Tesla-level GPU's. Depending of what you are rendering, for instance if it requires intensive computation of fluid dynamics or particle physics, 16 may not even be enough for real-time.

I wouldn't exactly call 8 TFLOPS a supercomputer. Maybe something in the scale of 100 TFLOPS and up. High performance computing? Yes, definitely.

For 16 way, just get two VCAs. The point of their demo was to show that it scales. And it's not overkill for the pros: the detail and fidelity you can have in a model and still render that model in a reasonable time are going up to levels that simply didn't exist before.

But they did exhibit a self-driving Audi, so it wasn't a total bore.

You can buy Quadros on Amazon and stores like Newegg: http://www.amazon.com/PNY-VCQK6000-PB-Quadro-K6000-PCI-Express/dp/B00FEX2ZC4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395923002&sr=8-1&keywords=Quadro+K6000
