he did not make the subs... those are the Original subtitles...as translated by CD Projekt Redat a later time... ATARI took that script...cut down some stuff off, made the voice-overs in many other languages based on this version...and got it on the non-polish speaking marketsand yes, you can use the polish voice-overs, just use the Original subs version when you get in Act I, the Prologue is messed up.

If you have the uncut mod from halmtier, then you don't need this script, do you?

You have to download them separately as they did not ship with the cut version of the game.Halmtier's uncut mod has the file, but there are plenty of other places you can get it.The Polish voice file alone is 627mb.

I'm quite confused over the different voiceover files and the scripts that accompany them. I have the US (hence censored) version which comes with the language key = 3 and the 480+mb voiceover file. I used halmtier's mod to overwrite the VO file to the 600+mb version, and used 1eyedking's files (optimized version or key =2). I noticed that the VO and the script for both uncut (key=1) and optimized (key=2) do not correspond, and it's hard to hear and read different things. So I used the polish VO file with 1eyedking's optimized script (much better). However, am I correct to say that there are at least 3 pairs of scripts and VO files now?Pair 1: US version = Cut up English script and a 480+mb VO file.Pair 2: UK version = uncut English script with a 600+mb VO file. If that's the case, is the one that comes with Halmtier's mod this VO file, and where can I get the UK script (which would then correspond with the VO file).Pair 3: Polish version = uncut Polish script with a 600+mb VO file (same file size as Halmtier's mod file, incidentally). And then there's 1eyedking's original and optimized scripts, both of which do not synchronize with the UK version, as far as I can tell. Is this correct? If it is, what I really want is Pair 2 - the UK VO file and English script, IF it's really different. Any idea where to get this?

Us and Uk versions share (and use) the same script and voice files. The difference between them is the graphics, not the dialogues. There are two slightly different uncut English scripts, but non of them is avaible in a retail version (both UK and US) - you have to unlock them by 1eyedkinds fix. In other words, there are 3 versions of English script on a DVD, but unmodded game, regardeless of country in which you bought it, uses only one of them, which is the cut one. Unfortunately, there is only one version of English VO, so voices obviously cannot be unlocked. Of course voices based on a cut script do not correspond with uncut script and that's why Halmiters mod contains Polish VO.

Ptosio, many thanks for your explanation. It makes a lot more sense now. Am I right in saying that the first uncut English script is the one that is delivered with the polish VO in the Polish game, but the optimized script is 1eyedking's 'rewrite' or improvement of that English script?

Yes, first uncut English script fits very well with polish VO (but only from first act, you must play prologue with "cutted" version). Second version doesnt fit with polish VO, it is something between "original", uncut version, and cutted script (it was made during production, it is not rewrite).

As most of you are probably aware:probably due to the initiative of 1eyedking and the positive response to the restored script, the original english script will be redone in the enhanced edition of The Witcher, freely downloadable by registered owners.Quote from here: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=10550.0
First and foremost, the English language version will be, for the most part, completely re-done. The amount of text in that version was reduced compared to other language versions and that was said to cause a significant decrease in immersion and atmosphere. Now the English version will be as polished and atmospheric as the other language versions.

Also from the pdf file on the homepage:
- Corrected English translation and voice work (over 5000 dialogue lines re-written and re-recorded).

We will most likely have to wait until May for this.

Okey. Now, I'm confused. Hoping I'll get some help.I have the polish version of the game now (finished the english one). I unpacked the files in the data folder and first chose the short english file to check how it worked. Now I have the subtitles but no voices. I've gone back and forth, changing names (with backups of course), but nothing helps. No one else seems to have this problem, but then most seems to have just the polish voice file, not the polish version of the game itself. Can anyone help?

i noticed that there's another thread which is to report errors in the scripts (typos, polish words etc). I wonder if 1eyedking is still tracking that and intends to update the scripts, given that the enhanced edition may well fix a lot of these problems? I'm playing using the original uncut (lang=1) and there's quite a number of errors that I want to report... (but no point if it's not going to be acted on in the forseeable future right?)

I used the files on the first page in this topic.(for Vista 32 and the rest). I tried messing around with the language key as well, but are there any special key files I should use? If anyone has tried this with the polish version could they tell me how it's done. I have messed around with files and stuff like this before in games, but now I'm completely at a loss.Have exams now though so I haven't time to try anymore, but if someone could post some helpful hints before the end of the week I'll be grateful. Looking forward to playing The Witcher again in the weekend. :)

try to copy lang_1.key to a lang_5.key and dialog_3.key to dialog_5.key ( iirc 5 means Polish )

I finally managed. I'm playing through the tutorial now with the cut english subtitles. Will change to the original uncut when I get to chapter one.Think I've been reading too much these last days. Was trying to fix it yesterday evening, but couldn't grasp my mind around it.Today I finally realised that I have to change the name of the voice file. I left the language key and dialouge files as they were, but changing the registry made the game look for an english voice file that wasn't there. Sounds so simple now that I figured it out. Should have known that from the start. :pThanks for the help by the way. :)

A word of caution about the uncut original script file - there are some problems which may be an issue for some players, particularly in terms of:
  • Different names of NPCs (eg Munro Bruys is not named that) which makes things confusing since the journal or quest refers to one while on screen the name's different
  • Journal entries are still quite full of errors, eg [dev] entries
  • Errors in the inventory as well eg potion bases are not labelled strong/medium/weak (but the original cut does). Likewise for secondary effect potions (eg Nigredo Albedo etc are not shown in some potions). Some alchemical items are labelled differently too
It caused sufficient confusion that I had to resort back to the cut US version :( A real pity, because I think the DIALOGUE from the uncut version is much better but the other non-Dialogue problems are serious enough that it affects gameplay :(
